Another Fun Episode
infinitetyler16 April 2024
I took 20 minutes to watch a summary of what the deal is with the vaults in Fallout, so now I have a better context for the world. Basically if "Fallout" were 'A Nightmare Before Christmas', each vault would be a holiday town, only instead of holidays they're filled unwitting participants in science experiments led by a secretive organization. Also there are a few organizations on the surface, each with its own agenda and level of influence, and so far we've only seen a couple in the forms of the raiders and the knights.

Given this understanding, it appears that vault 31, 32, and 33 are linked together through some type of network, which is not the case for other vaults. While it hasn't been revealed to the audience what specific experiment is being performed on Vault 33, this episode hints that the inhabitants are educated, idealistic, likely college professors, very liberal, and the writers have set them up to hit a wall of epic proportions when they inevitably collide with the harsh realities of surface dwellers.

Another enjoyable episode- yes we're chasing a macguffin around, but the 3 interested parties are entertaining to watch, and now we have a subplot involving the prisoners from episode 1 and the residents of V32. 'The Head' is probably my least favorite so far, but the episodes have been evenly matched and I still enjoyed it.

The goofy tone is starting to set in. Good work so far.
axlrhodes16 April 2024
I think the tone is setting in now. I thought Lucy was too comfortable handling a severed human head. It's like trauma and shock doesn't exist in these comic-booky realms of imagination, there she is casually having a conversation with decomposing head, sitting in a barren wilderness in the most vulnerable state. I get that she's plucky and niaeve but I think they show us in moments like this that the show intends to embrace goofiness as it unfolds.

I think the Thaddeus character also embodies this goofiness. He's essentially a lackey to Maximus and the tone of his character is very much on the side of parody.

I'm making it sound like I dislike the show. The contrary, so far it has entertained me with its mutant monsters, its world-building and cartoon violence. I'm also liking how things are shaping up in the vault. That could get very close to the bone.

OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
missesluvjones11 April 2024
What a fascinating episode, to say the least. The hunt continues now not for the target but for its head. When the episode opens, after the showdown between Lucy, Maximus, The Ghoul and an injured Dr. Wilson, it is Lucy that we see on the hunt to bring the head to the next step in her journey to find and free her father. I love the juxtaposition between this clean, honest, caring Lucy against the dirt, manipulation and evil of the surface and its dwellers. After a run in with an unexpected character, Lucy loses her most prized possession and is out of luck with The Ghoul finds her and captures her. She is out of water, which interestingly, becomes a common theme this episode.

Maximus continues to encounter his own set of problems on the surface as he realizes there is communication with home base and a new scribe is sent to him. Between his recent flashbacks and the interaction with Thaddeus, we see him struggle with his natural course of redemption and having a heart for humankind. Although his new orders from the Brotherhood, I believe, will make it easier for him to fall on one side of that struggle more so than the of the other.

We also begin to see the imminent challenges Vault Dwellers are now facing since Lucy opened the portal and left for the surface. With her brother advocating for a more logical plan in the face of their doomed outlook.

The race is on! Where will the head land next? We shall see.

Great Progression to the Show
maddmaxx4629 April 2024
This is another episode that pushed the story forward very well. I still prefer the second episode as my favorite so far, but this one did a great job pushing the three characters' stories forward. It also reintroduced the story of the vault from the first episode so it's nice to see them not abandoning that aspect of the show. The more I watch this show the more I realize it kind of pays homage to the movie The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly where the three core characters are all vying for the Head and each character fits these descriptions but in a different manner. I continue to be blown away by the visuals and I'm thrilled to see how accurate the show portrays how the video games played out. 4/5 stars.

Lacking
3 episodes in and it just feels empty. The characters lack depth, seriousness and reason. There's no real dialog with any meaning. It just feels like they're talking just to say things. Whenever a character gets into some sort of trouble it feels like there's zero stakes and just randomly resolves itself. The knights acting is t great, but maybe it's just the writing that doesn't help his cause.

Being a fan of the games, it is entertaining to watch and i hope the story can expand for the better, to fulfil its potential but the tone just doesn't seem to fit.

I'll watch all of the episodes as it is an enjoyable experience... just hope it gets better.

Disgusting and Stupid

How in the world did this series get rated 8.6 ???

First of all: to create a good drama, there has to be some sort of compelling challenge that propels the hero's (in this case heroine's) journey. THAT'S completely missing.

In this episode, the filmmakers distastefully introduce a character who describes his prior job in a way that you had better not be eating when that scene occurs. The Hollywood fascination with inserting bathroom bodily functions into the script is beyond me. Call me old fashioned.

I don't like ANY of these characters. So this will be the last episode I watch. The heroine is saccharine beyond belief. The cowboy is not a bad guy but he goes out of his way to be mean. It comes off as a strain. The vault dwellers are freakishly politically correct. The fake Knight is emotionally immature. The only character that's honest is a coward. I TRULY HATE ALL OF THESE CHARACTERS.

Some of the acting was pretty good. But the guy playing the knight is terrible. Unlike the previous episode, there were no veteran character actors to infuse the story with depth and credibility.

Based on the ratings, I kept waiting for this series to take off. But it hasn't. So I'm outta here.

Just a Chip
Johnny_West23 May 2024
The annoying music from 1940s public domain continues. It is not Dean Martin, or Frank Sinatra, or anybody you ever heard of. It is the worst unkown music of the 1940s.

Along comes bug-eyed girl (Ella Purnell), and she gets tired of dragging around that incredibly boring and abysmally whiny Michael Emerson (from Person of Interest and Evil). He has a face for radio. Soon no face at all.

Did it ever occur to anyone to just crack open his coconut and look around for the chip inside his skull? It is a lot easier to carry around a USB drive than an entire stinking and rotting human skull. Even for a TV series based on a video game, this show is dumb.

It's the music...

Warning: Spoilers
I'm trying to enjoy this show. I realize that it's inspired by a game I've never played, but I hate every character in this. Perhaps because the characters are from a game, each one has to be so over the top? Maximus is the one I hate the most. He came from being a squire, yet he treats his new squire just as bad as he was treated. Plus, I think he is a past acquaintance? His portrayal as a bumbling hero-to-be is just not appealing to me. The heroine is so clueless that I'm not rooting for her. Since the story revolves around her mission, I guess we're stuck with her. I love Walton Goggins work, but I've missed his motivation and reasons for being so cruel. He just feels like a cartoon evil bad guy that is just mean to have a villain for the plot.

But far and away, it's the music that is the most detracting to me. Seems like they dug up every goofy, sarcastic, comedy-type song and played them in this episode. I found a couple just unnecessary and distracting. The audio mix had me turning on the closed captions... which I hate. I'll try one more episode, but my expectations are low.
