Just action, nothing left
kltfalcon4 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I kind of enjoyed the movie in the first 30 minutes. But it's lame. It has no plot. Just some gangsters chase someone around. Fight and fight and fight. They walked into a hotel and chased someone like nothing. Do all the gangsters are stupid like this? Please.

After that, Uncle Tu helps them escape by cyclo even though they are strangers. Really? And they don't find a motorbike, they accept to chase by cyclo. It makes no sense. Then they chase them around in the street full of people like no one around. They chase by cano even the police chase them. Why they don't escape instead?

I enjoy to watch for relax because I don't need to think. But even I don't need to think, I can see it has no logic.

Rather dull action movie...

As I sat down to watch the 2021 Vietnamese movie "Lat Mat: 48H" (aka "Face Off 48H"), I was under the impression that it was an action comedy, however, there wasn't any comedy elements to the movie. So I was a little bit disappointed, as I had expected some laughs as well.

Normally I enjoy Asian action movies, however, director Ly Hai's 2021 movie "Lat Mat: 48H" was just not blessed with a proper storyline. The script was pretty weak, and that made for a somewhat shallow action movie experience. And the fact that the action sequences weren't exactly over-the-top either, just didn't really help much to boost the overall feel of the movie.

Given my limited exposure to the Vietnamese cinema, then I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. I can't say that I was particularly impressed with what I saw on the screen, but then again, the actors and actresses didn't exactly have much of anything to work with.

I am sure that there will be some hardcore action buffs out there that will find some enjoyment in "Lat Mat: 48H". I, however, like a movie to have a bit more of a thoroughly constructed and interesting storyline to supplement the action.

In fact, I gave up on the movie with just 20 minutes to go. But by then, I was just simply way too bored to carry on the torture. And this is not a movie that I will ever return to attempt to finish watching.

My rating of "Lat Mat: 48H" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

I couldn't handle it

Let me tell you, when I entered the theater, I wasn't prepared for this movie. This movie to me was an introductory movie to Vietnamese movies, and I loved it. First of all, I have not watched any of the other Lat Mat movies. I don't understand why the main character isn't on the poster, but instead has the friend of the main character, who does not have enough screen time. This movie has chase scenes, on boats, motorcycles, bikes, it's got everything. IT HAS EXPLOSIONS! Actually, it has EXACTLY ONE explosion. But it was perfect. I can't describe how much I loved this movie. Forget Marvel movies, Lat Mat stole my heart.
