Serial Experiments Lain (1998)
Okay Edgelord
I just finished watching Serial Experiments Lain. Here are my thoughts. The mystery of this series intrigued me. Why were all these people taking their own lives? Why is it seemingly at random? What exactly is "The Wired?". Is it another world? Is it the internet? Now we're getting into spoiler territory. So if you care about spoilers for an anime that came out in 1998 then scroll away. All this stuff about how "reality is just a bunch of code on a computer program"
was boring me to death. You're not profound,
you're just mentally ill.
Also, that reveal that Lain was never real,
and is simply a computer program? Terrible.
Full House: I've Got a Secret (1994)
This episode never sat right with me
The lesson should have been: "It's okay to keep safe secrets from adults", but no, the lesson was: "It's okay to keep all secrets from adults".
Keeping secrets from my parents is why I was groomed for far longer than I would have been, if I hadn't kept the secret that I was talking to a grown man online.
Yeah, Yeah, I know.
"It's not that deep bro"
But I'm sorry, it's a dangerous lesson, and the episode should have been pulled. Obviously I'm not talking about kids secretly getting a gift for their Parents or Guardians and keeping that a secret. That's fine, but this secret club that the kids had, that no adult knew about, until Michelle accidentally told Danny about it?
In the words of Michelle herself,
No way José!
Let's flip the perspective and make everyone but Michelle an adult. These little boys are now grown men that Michelle has a secret club with. Those grown men told Michelle not to talk about the secret club. Still sound okay? Your answer better have been no. Yeah, IMVU wasn't a thing yet, but grooming wasn't invented by the internet. Yes, that's not what the secret was, nor was that the plot of the episode. Let's put a different spin on this.
Imagine that Danny had an uncle. Now, let's imagine that said Uncle was molesting Danny when he was the same age as Michelle in this episode.
Danny turns on the TV and sees an episode of his favorite TV show with this bad lesson.
"See? My uncle said it's okay to keep the secret that he's doing this from my parents, and so did my favorite show. So this is okay".
Doesn't seem like an okay lesson for a kid's show does it?
Parallel (2018)
What the hell was that?!
Complete and utter trash! This movie sounded interesting, so I decided to rent it . The plot was all over the place and there was never any continuity to it! What the hell was that?!
The Color of Friendship (2000)
A powerful movie about racism, prejudice, and how we take our freedom for granted
A powerful movie about racism, prejudice, and how we take our freedom for granted.
The Dellum family decides to host a foreign exchange student from Africa named Mahree Bok. Unknown to the Bok family, the Dellum family is a black family. Unknown to the Dellum family, Mahree is white. We see the effect of Mahree's parent's racist and prejudiced teachings in Mahree. This movie is a powerful look at how racism effects both black and white people.
This movie also shows how we as Americans take our freedom for granted.
This movie is surprisingly deep for a Disney movie.
The Flash: Run, Iris, Run (2018)
More Like Run Virus Run
More comic book fan pandering. Iris West is not a likeable character at all, and no it's not because of her race. Iris west has been a character that I hate for a while now. Iris has no skills to be Team Flash's leader. And that whole "We are the Flash" trite? Please. Barry Allen, and Jay Garrick are the Flash, not Iris West. This episode is nothing more than catering to comic book fans to try to make Iris West relevant and it failed miserably. If anything I wanted to see Cisco end up with Barry's powers, or hell maybe even Caitlin, anybody but Iris West. Oh and when Joe called her the Flash? Uh-uh. I don't even think so.
