Lowlifes (2024)
Solid mid-tier comedic splatter
I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. I tend to put on horror/slashers on in the background but this one caught my attention. It even had a couple of decent surprises. I rated this as a 7 because it's better than average for this type of genre but it's not going to be to everyone's taste.
If you are looking for something completely original, particularly gruesome, or with a lot of jump scares, this isn't for you.
However, if you like splatter slashers with some comedy, Lowlifes is a good choice. They did a good job with the casting, the characters were fun, and it looked like the cast was enjoying themselves.
If the film makers or cast ever look at this, you did a great job and I look forward to seeing future films.
Dead End (2003)
Wasted potential
To be fair, I started this as a background movie. However, it was intriguing enough for me to pay attention. The script couldn't decide what type of horror movie it wanted to be, but I thought it could pull off the genre-blending based off of the reviews.
The acting over the top (although Ray Wise is always fun), but that's not really a surprise with a horror movie, and it didn't bother me. The characters also did stupid things that no real person would do, but again, it's horror movie - no surprise and not a big deal.
However, the ending ruined it. The movie gives the feel of a Twilight Zone episode and ends like 3rd grader's creative writing exercise. My exact thoughts were, "well that was a waste."
