The Ticket (1997 TV Movie)
5/10
The Ticket
29 October 2005
Starring: Shannen Doherty

I watched this movie because Grandma loves to watch anything with Shannen in it. We laughed all the way through because the plot was so predictable and evil Rita screaming at her husband (or partner) was definitely one of the more memorable scenes, in typical Western (woman) style she insists on dominating him throughout the movie and humiliates and badgers him into agreeing to help her kill for the lottery ticket. Yes, Rita's has her weak lover wrapped around her greedy little finger.

Seen better movies but this movie did entertain us on an otherwise quiet evening. Grandma nearly choked when she heard Rita screech at Hank - or whatever the poor chaps name is.

Shannen Doherty was fun to watch and looked so unreal as the mother of this near-teenager. However, her acting skills made up for the obviously ill-considered age gap. Shannen is a true actor and this movie as are her others - really show how talented this lady is. Having said that, if it wasn't for Shannen holding the plot together I may have fallen asleep. Apart from Doherty's pukka acting skills, I 'd give the movie a feeble 5 out of 10.

Gone in the Night (1996 TV Movie)
10/10
Gone In The Night
27 March 2005
The horror of a world seeped in injustice. This could happen anywhere, a child could be stolen in the middle of the night by a complete stranger, the kidnapper may have absolutely nothing to do with the family and a justice system COULD be completely unethical, incompetent and all the other fitting words that could be used to describe a system that could do this to a family who had gone through so much.

How can this family recover from such an event and everything additional that happened to them? Are they left distrusting the system? How has this affected their mental health? God help them and God help those who acted without fairness - they too must be suffering but at no consolation to the little girl's family.

This movie has been masterfully created to depict a story that rocked the world - only one in a long line of miscarriages of justice - this film is a great educational tool and raises a whole host of issues for discussion at the very least. Shannen Doherty and Kevin Dillon did great. Do watch it!

Another Day (2001 TV Movie)

Another Day

Another Day - this movie requires you to watch it another day to understand it. I thoroughly enjoy watching Shannen Doherty and I was quite interesting in seeing how well Julian McMahon and Shannen appeared together following the roles they played in Charmed. I can certainly PRAISE the acting skills throughout the film, even the directing - but the plot...what happened? I am at a loss for words because I am still confused. I have to stay loyal to the actors who really did a good job considering the madness of the plot. I also have to recommend you watch it because despite the plot-madness I would still watch it over and over again.

Our Mother's Murder (1997 TV Movie)
10/10
Our Mothers Murder is a fitting case study about the affects of domestic violence
16 March 2005
This movie appeared to me to be sending the message loud and clear - THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP AND DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR SUPPORTERS. The fact that this movie is based on a true story removes any need for me to be critical of it. The producers did themselves justice by focusing on the daughters role in what happened. It should at the very least make any victim think about the pain the family and friends go through when they see a 'loved one' in an abusive relationship. I loved the film and all three main actors Holly, Sarah and Roxie were just great.

I have to give the film 10 out of 10 - the whole cast and crew appeared to do more than 'really try;' they portrayed a story easily believable and is all too real. They didn't go for any fancy twists or turns - they just did it! I found myself feeling sorry for the loss of Roxie to all who knew her. Domestic Abuse/Violence is a hot issue for discussion and this film is a great training resource too!
