Radio Free Roscoe (2003)
Love It
I first saw previews for this show a few months ago when I only watched Noggin because of Daria. The commercials sparked not just a curiosity but an actual hope that kids shows haven't gone down the toilet completely.
I must say that I think this may be one of the best kids shows ever created. Will McRobb, creator of Pete and Pete, is the brains behind this great show.
The best thing about this show is the plot. Four kids who attend Roscoe High School build a radio station to have their voices be heard, not to protest anything. They give advice to callers, talk about events at their school, and play music that isn't played on their local Top 40 station. No Nelly or 50 Cent on this station. (Thank God)
However, for the sake of the station's integrity they never say their real names on the air and never reveal their aliases to other people.
They express and defend their own opinions but don't come off as whiny, close-minded brats. When someone does something to compromise that right they love, they take action against it. The center of one episode was a protest against a rule banning headphone usage in school. (Which I relate to because CD players are banned on campus at my school)
As important as the station is to the show and the characters, it isn't an all-consuming factor. The characters go through the same crap that all teens have to go through like relationship trouble. Even though that idea has been done to death, this show tells kids that a broken heart is not the end of the world. And that is something so refreshing, I can't begin to tell you.
Radio Free Roscoe is a great blend of originality, empathy, and humor. There have only been four or five episodes so far but I've enjoyed all of them. I've laughed during each one, related to lots of the situations that the kids go through and it always ends with me being satisfied and wanting more.
I don't know if there are more episodes in the works or if the handful of episodes that air on Noggin are all there is. I honestly think that this is the best kids show that's come out since Hey Arnold! and Noggin has a real winner on their hands.
Everwood (2002)
I still can't believe this show is on the WB. Why? Cause it's actually good.
Yes. Imagine my surprise one winter night when I watched a show on the WB and actually enjoyed it. I couldn't believe a network that put out garbage like the Jamie Kennedy Experiment and Smallville put something not only worth watching but worth watching loyally. That show was Everwood. The characters are good, the actors are actually talented, and the writing is excellent. It gives you a good dose of drama which all of us need from time to time, ecspecially if you are like me and only watch sitcoms. Very few hour long shows have caught my loyalty. The only other 60 minute shows I find watchable is Boston Public and John Doe. The only thing I don't like this show is it's timeslot- 8:00 on Monday, the same time as Still Standing and wrestling. I know that I can watch the repeat on EasyView but it just isn't the same.
Anyway, this show is great and I will be watching it loyally until the end.
The Rerun Show (2002)
Easily, one of the worst shows ever.
This was a HORRIBLE TV show. The idea of spoofing old shows but having no script and bad actors doing it is just plain bad. It was like a very bad skit from "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" that lasts way too long. I am very glad to see this show get cancelled. NBC has put out very good shows (Scrubs, Seinfeld, Mad About You) and some awful ones (The Downer Channel, Cursed, Fear Factor) this is just another drop in the bad TV bucket.
Doug (1991)
Loved it then, love it now
I used to watch this show so much as a little kid, it was insane. I still watch the old episodes before I go to school in the morning and I think I like them more now because I understand the situations so much more now. I still remember the first episode when Skeeter tries to teach Doug how to dance and then ties himself into a pretzel. Great stuff.
Say Anything... (1989)
Best teen movie ever
This movie was excellent by any standards, not just the ones set by teen movies. This movie was much more smart, realistic, and deep than any movie in its genre. The best thing about this movie is that there is actually heartbreak in it and that Diane doesn't come out better than she did before. As good as this movie was, I did have a gripe with it. Everyone who saw it saw Lloyd as average. HE WASN'T AVERAGE, he just thought he was. Think about it. He is this great guy who is responsible. (Think about the party scene where he is the keymaster.) He wants to be a kickboxer and he cares about people more than most people do.(Remember when he drove around Seattle all night just to take that guy home?) He is also very loyal and dedicated. Think of all that bull-s-h-i-t that he had to put with from Diane and her dad. A normal guy would've quit on her, but not him but Cameron Crowe did such a good job writing the Lloyd character that we actually start to believe that Lloyd is average. In spite of this suckering by Crowe and Cusack who is f'n amazing in this movie, I still love it and hope that this movie is not forgotten. I'm doing my part by lending my DVD copy out to anyone willing to watch it.

Orange County (2002)
Awesome.
I related to this movie on so many levels. The wanting out of the hometown(Hawaii's beautiful but boring),the character who's smart but lazy (that's me. School sucks), the parents who are oblivious to their kid's wants, and most importantly the unexpected inspiration. Shaun finds inspiration from a book he found buried in the sand at the beach. I found inspiration from a movie that, I'll admit, thought looked like garbage but saw it because I was bored. That's right, the movie that inspired me to write was one I didn't even want to see. It reminds me of a quote I once heard: "Searching for inspiration is a surefire way to never get it."
