Hollywood isn’t generally going great, even for experts like Hugh Grant. Recently, he spilled the beans on feeling nervous working with three highly coveted actresses. One of them is Kate Winslet, known for her mind-blowing acting chops, who caused the 63-year-old to feel a little jittery.

Then there’s Nicole Kidman, and Meryl Streep, two more stalwart entertainers who were included along with the remaining blend of nerves. These leading women certainly had Grant feeling the strain. It’s interesting to hear what the actor had to say about sharing the screen with these Hollywood symbols.

Actor Hugh Grant recently teamed up with Oscar-winner Kate Winslet for HBO’s limited series The Regime. At times, Winslet’s performance could be the scariest part of the show.
How Hugh Grant felt about working with Kate Winslet after all these years Kate Winslet | Charly Triballeau/Getty Images
Grant had a few reasons to be nervous when working alongside Winslet on The Regime, as the actor portrayed a very intimidating character. The limited series saw her playing powerful dictator Chancellor Elena Vernham whose mental health led to the fracture of her country.
It was a much different character than Winslet played when she first worked with Grant. The two originally teamed up for the 1995 flick Sense and Sensibility. It would also see her team up with stars like Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson. Winslet looked forward to reuniting with Grant after three decades apart.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through Episode 4 of “The Regime.”]
Kate Winslet has only one Academy Award, but good luck telling Hugh Grant that.
Created by “Succession” writer Will Tracy, HBO’s “The Regime” is a dark political satire about an authoritarian country and its dangerously squirrely ruler. The venomous Chancellor Elena Vernham is a scene-stealing TV character who gifts Winslet ample acting opportunity.
Winslet always delivers — be it through the text-heavy speeches given to Elena’s constituency, a handful of bespoke musical theater moments (complete with flawless costumes), or the crowning jewel episode that sees Vernham meet with ex-Chancellor turned prisoner Ed Keplinger. That’s Grant.
“I’ve barely seen her for 30 years since ‘Sense and Sensibility,’ and I was a bit frightened of her now,” Grant told IndieWire; he gives a shaggily chic performance as a flirty and shifty academic with a life framed in underground dystopia. “I mean, God almighty, she’s got about 400 Oscars and is revered.

Academy Award-winning producer Daniel Dreifuss (“All Quiet on the Western Front”) has boarded “Red Men,” the latest feature from Mexico’s Hari Sama, best known for his lauded autobiographical pic “This is not Berlin,” which world premiered at Sundance in 2019.
Described as an “edgy and provocative coming-of-age story” about the life of Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele, “Red Men” hones in on Schiele’s role in reshaping European aesthetics through his intimate relationship with lover and muse, Dominik Van Osen.
Their bond inspired Schiele’s pioneering Expressionist style while also compelling the young artist to confront his sexually fluid identity amidst repressive laws banning homosexuality in turn-of-the-century Vienna. This romantic saga delves into the emotional complexities of two artistic companions turned lovers, which drove Egon’s artistic vision while he struggled to navigate society’s norms. Schiele, whose provocative art was known for its contorted body shapes and dramatic lines,...

Dune: Part Two star Rebecca Ferguson recently revealed that she was screamed at on the set of a film early in her career by a huge star. The actress mentioned that she later told the star to “F off” after the altercation and refused to work with them, which drew flack from the producers as the other actor was ‘Call Sheet No.1’.
While Ferguson did not reveal who the screamer was, the Internet has gone with speculations. The actress assured that it was neither Tom Cruise nor Hugh Jackman while Dwayne Johnson, her Hercules co-star seemingly cleared his name. A recent clip with Star Wars star Ewan McGregor showed Ferguson being extremely comfortable with the actor, clearing his name too.

Emma Stone has a dream, and not one you’d expect. The “Poor Things” star, coming off a Golden Globe win this week, tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast that she wants to be a contestant on the classic game show “Jeopardy” — and no, not the “Celebrity” edition.
“I apply every June,” she says. “I don’t want to go on ‘Celebrity Jeopardy.’ I want to earn my stripes. You can only take the test once a year with your email address, and I’ve never gotten on the show. I watch it every single night and I mark down how many answers I get right. I swear, I could go on ‘Jeopardy.'”
Stone could be the second woman nominated for producing and acting in the same year following Frances McDormand for “Nomadland” (2020), who won both. In addition, she could be the second actress to receive Oscar nods for...

December 2003. Twenty years ago. It was a special time for moviegoers. That’s because it was the first holiday season in which “Love Actually” could actually be part of one’s Christmas time festivities. (Richard Curtis‘ ensemble romantic comedy was still playing to healthy crowds in cinemas.)
While the film would not figure into that year’s Academy Awards race, the cast did feature a handful of past Oscar contenders — and a few winners. Sho which “Love Actually” cast member will be next to earn an Oscar nomination?
The most noticeable of those winners was Emma Thompson, 1992’s Best Actress for “Howards End.” She tried (unsuccessfully) for acting awards three more times, including for 1995’s “Sense and Sensibility.” For penning that script, she accepted the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for superbly adapting the classic novel by Jane Austen.

Ryan Gosling is one of the biggest contenders for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s smash hit “Barbie.” The Warner Bros. movie follows Margot Robbie‘s titular Barbie as she leaves Barbie Land for the real world in search of answers after suffering an existential crisis. Gosling’s performance as Ken has brought him plenty of plaudits, leading to a strong case for Best Supporting Actor in this year’s Oscars race.
However, this isn’t the first Oscars race Gosling has been in as he’s received two Academy Award nominations before. Let’s take a look back at them.
Gosling was first nominated in 2007 when he received a Best Actor notice for “Half Nelson,” which follows Gosling as a junior high school teacher with a drug habit. Gosling’s teacher forms a friendship with one of his students...

Is Meryl Streep the greatest film performer of all time? According to Oscar voters over the past five decades, that might just be the case with her record-shattering 21 nominations and three wins. But her filmography is filled with gems that didn’t get any awards buzz. Tour through our photo gallery of Streep’s 27 greatest performances ranked from worst to best.
Streep snagged her first Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress for “The Deer Hunter” (1978) and picked up her first trophy in that category the very next year for “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1979). She subsequently snagged two prizes in the lead category (“Sophie’s Choice” in 1982 and “The Iron Lady” in 2011) and competed 17 more times: Best Actress for “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” (1981), “Silkwood” (1983), “Out of Africa” (1985), “Ironweed” (1987), “A Cry in the Dark” (1988), “Postcards from the Edge” (1990), “The Bridges of Madison County” (1995), “One True Thing” (1998), “Music of the Heart” (1999), “The Devil Wears Prada...

Oscar-winning actor Helen Mirren refused to address the controversy around her casting as Israel’s iconic Prime Minister Golda Meir in Guy Nattiv’s biopic during the movie’s press conference at the Berlinale.
When asked to comment on the backlash and the issue of authentic casting, Mirren left it to Nattiv and her co-star Lior Ashkenazi (“Footnote”) to stand up for her while she smiled shyly.
Mirren is neither Israeli nor Jewish, and critics have argued that she shouldn’t have been cast as Israel’s most important female figure.
Nattiv said that when he met Mirren, he instantly felt like he was in the presence of a “family member” — an “aunt” who had the “Jewish chops to portray Golda.”
“We spoke about that for hours. She totally got everything, every nook and cranny, everything in this character,” he continued. Surrounding Mirren with an Israeli cast was a crucial step,...

Skin is a subject Israeli-American director Guy Nattiv touches on frequently in his work. He has directed no fewer than two (unrelated) films titled “Skin,” one feature-length, one short. The former, which premiered in Toronto in 2018, saw Jamie Bell win rave reviews as a white supremacist who tortuously has his tattoos lasered off after managing to break away from the Neo-Nazi cult that raised him. The latter, which Nattiv produced alongside his wife, Jaime Ray Newman, won the Oscar for live action short in 2019.
Now Nattiv returns with “Golda,” his first feature since Toronto and another character study, this time of Israel’s fourth prime minister, Golda Meir, who is played by Helen Mirren. The film, which also stars Liev Schreiber and Camille Cottin, is set during the 1973 Yom Kippur war, when a coalition of Arab states launched a surprise attack on Israel on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The selection process for the Grammy Awards was altered last May, following very public criticisms from The Weeknd. The show no longer uses anonymous review committees to determine its nominees, however, this year also saw prominent artists like Drake and Silk Sonic declining to submit their latest projects for consideration.
See the complete list of this year’s winners below:
Record of the Year
“Don’t Shut Me Down” — Abba
“Easy On Me” — Adele
“Break My Soul” — Beyoncé
“Good Morning Gorgeous” — Mary J. Blige
“You And Me On The Rock” — Brandi Carlile feat.

Sam Fender has canceled a selection of upcoming tour dates, citing the need to look after his mental health.

On paper, Don’t Worry Darling should have been a surefire win.
The psychological thriller had, in Olivia Wilde, a buzzy up-and-coming director, fresh off the glowingly recieved teen comedy Booksmart.
In Florence Pugh, it had a young actor hailed as one of the very best of a generation, who had just been nominated for her first Oscar (for Little Women).
When it was announced that Pugh would be joined by Harry Styles, one of the biggst pop singers in the world, it seemed the film was all-but guaranteed to be a major box-office draw. So what went wrong?
As the film’s September release date has drawn ever closer, controversy surrounding the film has snowballed.
Rumours of on-set feuds, disputes around firings and questionable acting performances have seen many pundits brand Don’t Worry Darling a disaster waiting to happen.
Here’s a timeline of Don’t Worry Darling’s behind-the-scenes troubles.

40 years ago, Hugh Grant made his film debut in 1982’s “Privileged,” a little-seen effort about undergraduates at Oxford (where Grant studied English lit), which was funded by the Oxford University Film Foundation. In its July 14, 1982, review, Variety said the film — which also marked the bows of producer Andy Paterson, director Michael Hoffman, actors Imogen Stubbs and James Wilby and composer Rachel Portman — would have “limited interest” for most audiences but that the actor, billed as Hughie Grant, gives a convincing performance as an “aristocratic dropout.”
For the next five years, Grant did sketch comedy, played the classics onstage and worked in TV; his first mention in Variety was for the 1985 miniseries “Jenny’s War,” playing the Raf pilot son of Dyan Cannon.
He boosted his profile with the 1987 Merchant-Ivory film “Maurice,” adapted from E.M. Forster. The film also featuring his “Privileged” costar Wilby and the two shared the best-actor prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Millie Bobby Brown is officially a college girl! In a new interview with Allure magazine, Brown revealed that she’s decided to enroll as an online student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana — the same state her hit show “Stranger Things” is famously based in.
While Brown won’t be physically in Indiana, or the fictional town of Hawkins the show centers around, the 18-year-old will be studying remotely via the university’s human services program — a program she described as one where “you learn about the system and how to help young people.”
The school’s website defines human services as a program “designed to provide students with basic knowledge in human development and family studies, skills for working with people in service agencies, and program evaluation skills.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Brown discussed the platform her massively successful role as Eleven on the Netflix series has given her.

Fire broke out at Italy’s historic Cinecittà Studios on Monday afternoon (August 1), destroying part of an old set depicting Renaissance Florence, which was in the process of being dismantled, and disrupted Netflix film Old Guard 2.
Local media reported the fire was declared mid-afternoon and that plumes of smoke could be seen for miles around.
Three fire-fighting teams were dispatched to the scene and managed to get the blaze under control by early evening.
A Cinecittà Studios spokesperson said late Monday that the fire was under control and that there had been no injuries or serious damage done to the site. The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
The threat of fires spinning out of control is particularly acute in Europe at the moment amid record-breaking temperatures this summer.

“Get out, I don’t want too see your fucking face,” Rajat Sharma playing a cross between a worried friend and a closet fiend barks at Deepika Padukone.

We should have seen this coming. Jennifer Hudson shocked many awards-watchers when she scored a SAG nomination for “Respect” after being mostly left out of early critics awards. But as the race moves away from the critics cycle and into the hands of the industry, it is clear that this past Oscar champ is going to sing her way to nomination number two. The signs were there all along.
As any pundit worth their salt will tell you, a great narrative is just as important as a great performance when it comes to winning over the Academy. Hudson has perhaps the best behind-the-scenes narrative of any major Best Actress hopeful. Aretha Franklin hand-picked the actress to play her in this biopic before she passed away in 2018. Franklin knew that Hudson was one of the few people on the planet with the vocal chops and star power to fill her legendary shoes.

Rachel Zegler surged in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds once her debut in “West Side Story” finally screened, but a snub from the SAG Awards has her flatlining with many pundits. Oscar-watchers should take heed before hastily removing Zegler from their Best Actress predictions, however. Zegler has already won the National Board of Review’s Best Actress prize and she received a Best Young Actor/Actress nomination from Critics Choice.
When looking at Academy Awards history, it’s clear that her breakout performance in “West Side Story” has all the ingredients necessary to crash the Oscars and show those SAG Awards voters why they were wrong to dismiss her.
It’s understandable that Oscar experts would have the knee-jerk reaction to drop Zegler after the SAG Awards nominators omitted her from their lineup. In the history of the SAG Awards, no actress has gone on to win the Best Actress...

In upcoming biopic “Golda,” Helen Mirren plays former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir during the 1973 Yom Kippur war, when Israel was invaded by a coalition of Arab states on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
While Mirren is not Jewish, “Golda” is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guy Nattiv (“Skin”), who is both Jewish and Israeli, and written by British screenwriter Nicholas Martin (“Florence Foster Jenkins”), who has previously worked with the organization U.K. Jewish Film.
But in the U.K., where production wrapped last month, Mirren’s casting as one of history’s most heroic Jewish women has caused some disquiet. Actor Maureen Lipman (“The Pianist”) highlighted the discussion about what has been termed “Jewface” when she told a newspaper she “disagreed” with Mirren’s casting “because the Jewishness of the character is so integral. Is Meryl Streep the greatest film performer of all time? According to Oscar voters over the past 40+ years, that might just be the case with her record-shattering 21 nominations and three wins. But her filmography is filled with gems that didn’t get any awards buzz.
Streep snagged her first Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress for “The Deer Hunter” (1978) and picked up her first trophy in that category the very next year for “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1979). She subsequently snagged two prizes in the lead category (“Sophie’s Choice” in 1982 and “The Iron Lady” in 2011) and competed 17 more times: Best Actress for “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” (1981), “Silkwood” (1983), “Out of Africa” (1985), “Ironweed” (1987), “A Cry in the Dark” (1988), “Postcards from the Edge” (1990), “The Bridges of Madison County” (1995), “One True Thing” (1998), “Music of the Heart” (1999), “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006), “Doubt” (2008), “Julie & Julia” (2009), “August: Osage County” (2013), “Florence Foster Jenkins” (2016), and “The Post” (2017); Best Supporting Actress...

In Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune,” Rebecca Ferguson plays Lady Jessica, lover of the world ruler portrayed by Oscar Isaac and matriarch to Timothée Chalamet’s messiah-in-waiting. She is a doting mother who is distracted by the pressures of a royal household, but more importantly, she is brimming over with a supernatural power that could bring about revolution.
That dynamic is not a bad allegory for Ferguson’s career. Having largely served as a second name on the call sheet behind male co-stars in the massive films that pepper her IMDb page, Ferguson has consistently dazzled critics and audiences — emerging as both an anchor and a scene-stealer in “The Greatest Showman,” “Doctor Sleep” and the “Mission: Impossible” films, where her shadowy agent is able to make quick work of Tom Cruise and anyone else who gets in the way.
“Would we also say that I’m constantly in the background of a more famous man?...

It seems like Madonna might have found her "Material Girl" in Florence Pugh. On Thursday, Sept. 23, the iconic pop star spoke to the Associated Press about her upcoming biopic at the New York premiere for her new concert documentary Madame X, revealing that she's still in the early stages of planning and the cast hasn't been chosen yet. However, it seems Madge has her eyes set on the Little Women actress, who has the perfect background for the role. Madonna shared, "She's definitely up there on the list, if she'll have me." Though Florence is primarily known for her acting, she's also a singer, who performs under the name Flossie Rose. The...

So, may we start?
Annette premiered on Amazon Prime this weekend, and this rock opera sure is unique.
The leads sing wonderfully, which gets elevated by their star power acting.
Adam Driver plays comedian Henry McHenry, and Marion Cottilard plays opera superstar Ann.
Simon Helberg rounds out the main characters as The Conductor.
Helberg's musical talent has been no secret (as shown in Florence Foster Jenkins), and he gets to showcase some new skills for Annette.
Helberg learned to conduct for the role, to make it seem as realistic as possible.
The actors put everything into their performances despite the weak script by Russell and Ron Mael.
The story itself felt like watching a fever dream in real-time, which I would consider both good and bad.
Carax made some interesting directing choices that paid off, but the script also hurt his unique directing style.
Almost every scene from Annette could be a painting,...

Simon Helberg was so invested in landing the role of The Conductor in Leos Carax’s musical movie “Annette,” he became a French citizen.
The actor, perhaps best known for his 12-season run on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” steals scenes opposite Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard in the film, arriving in theaters on Aug. 6 before hitting Amazon Prime Aug. 20. With a screenplay by Carax and Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks (who also wrote the music and lyrics), the film is largely a two-hander about a famous couple and their talented daughter — the title character.
It wasn’t Helberg’s TV stardom or roles in films like “Florence Foster Jenkins” that enticed Carax. “I had never seen Simon’s work in anything,” reveals the director. “He turned out to be very special. It’s difficult to find an actor who can really play the piano, sing and whom I’d want to film.

Schmigadoon! manages to sell its audience on a pair of dalliances as fast as Betsy was able to sell Melissa on The Inn’s world-famous corn pudding.

Bleecker Street and ShivHans have secured U.S. rights to “Golda,” a biopic about Israel’s only female prime minister, Golda Meir.
The film stars Helen Mirren, an expert at revealing the inner lives of public figures in films like “The Queen.” It will be directed by Guy Nattiv, an Oscar winner for his short film “Skin,” with a script from “Florence Foster Jenkins” writer Nicholas Martin. The film will begin shooting in October in Europe.
The movie is described as a “ticking-clock thriller following the intensely dramatic events, high-stake responsibilities and controversial decisions which Meir faced during the Yom Kippur War in 1973.” It also gives Mirren a splashy, Oscar-bait-y role. Mirren’s recent credits include “F9” and HBO’s “Catherine the Great.” She will next appear in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.”

Marvel movies are back with “Black Widow” finally opening in theaters in July, and based on the reactions of those who got to see it a bit early, Disney has another hit on its hands with the MCU’s “Bond” movie.
“Marvel movies are back! #BlackWidow is a tense, action-packed spy thriller that truly completes Natasha’s story in a visceral & emotional way. Florence Pugh Crushes it & is an instant MCU icon. This is like the MCU’s Bond movie w/ shades of Mission: Impossible & Thelma & Louise,” wrote Fandangos’ Erik Davis.
