Hillary Swank rallies her entire town to help out a neighbor in the latest trailer for Lionsgate’s true-life faith-based drama “Ordinary Angels.”
The two-time Oscar winner plays a hairdresser who inserts herself into the life of a grieving widower with a critically ill daughter. The kid needs a new liver, and the dad just needs a little help. As revealed in the trailer, circumstances change when a new organ becomes available for transplant, but it requires a cross-country flight and happens to occur during a once-in-a-generation cold front.
Swank won two Best Actress Oscars, one in 2000 for “Boys Don’t Cry” and one in 2005 for “Million Dollar Baby.” Although she never really became a bankable draw, she has made a career out of mostly top-billed leading roles in films like “Amelia,” “The Core” and “The Gift.” Moreover, she almost never found herself just playing the love interest or the lone woman in a macho melodrama,...

Believe it or not, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson's romance has landed them in Orlando, Fla. In photos obtained by E! News, the couple were spotted leaving the office of Ripley's Believe It or Not! in the Sunshine State on Saturday, April 23. Keeping it casual, Kim sported a white tank, light-wash jeans, black sunglasses and a slicked bun. Pete wore a red flannel, black sweatpants, sunglasses and a blue ball cap. Kim's longtime hairdresser Chris Appleton was also seen with the duo. It's unclear why they were visiting the Ripley's Believe It or Not! office, but it was just the latest stop for the traveling pair this week. On April 24, Kim and Pete were in attendance for the 2022...

Exclusive: Cher just tweeted out that on the eve of celebrating her 75th birthday Thursday, she’ll have her life story unfold on movie screens through Universal Pictures. It is a major effort with heavy hitters, and here’s what is happening.
The as yet untitled film will be scripted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, whose recent efforts include adapting Killers of the Flower Moon that is currently in production with Martin Scorsese directing Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, and co-writing the upcoming Denis Villenueve-directed Dune epic. The Cher film will be produced by Judy Craymer — whose brainstorm it was to turn the Abba song catalog into the stage musical smash Mamma Mia! — and Playtone’s Gary Goetzman, who produced the Mamma Mia! films with Craymer. That duo will produce with Cher, who starred in the Mamma Mia! sequel. Cher just produced Kaavan, The World’s Loneliest Elephant, which is streaming on Paramount.

If “Io Sì (Seen)” wins the song Oscar on April 25, it will mark only the fourth time in Oscar history that a foreign-language lyric has taken the prize. Diane Warren’s song for “The Life Ahead,” which co-lyricist Laura Pausini sings in Italian, is the 10th song not in the English language to be nominated.
The winners were the title song from 1960’s “Never on Sunday,” in Greek; “Al Otro Lado Del Rio,” from 2004’s “The Motorcycle Diaries,” in Spanish; and “Jai Ho,” from 2008’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” a mix of Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi languages.
One of its strongest competitors is “Husavik,” from “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga,” which is sung partly in Icelandic.
A non-English lyric is not necessarily a handicap. Multiple factors go into an Oscar song win, and it isn’t always just the competition. Manos Hadjidakis’ song “Never on Sunday” — from Jules Dassin...

Two weeks from now marks the third anniversary of the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, during which 17 teenagers were tragically killed. On Sunday night (Jan. 31), Academy Award-winning actress, singer and activist Cher and activist Emma Gonzalez — a Parkland survivor — continued the conversation with a virtual screening of Kim A. Snyder’s 2020 documentary, “Us Kids,” followed by a live question and answer session.
“I was happy to see that Emma’s passion has not diminished a drop since the making of this profound documentary,” Cher tells Variety. “As I said during the conversation, I think our generations working together can make great progress addressing gun violence and other important issues”.
The talk, which was capped with a Cher singalong of her 1998 hit, “Believe,” centered not only on the film, but on other issues plaguing the U.S. and the world. “What’s going on...

It’s been over 10 years since Adam Lambert famously lost the “American Idol” title to singer-songwriter Kris Allen and fans are still adamant he was robbed. In a recent poll we asked our readers which runner-up from the past 17 seasons of “Idol” most deserved to win and Lambert won by an absolute landslide. With 74% of the vote, he is by far the most beloved second-place finisher.
Finishing a distant second place in our poll with 8% of the vote was Season 2’s Clay Aiken, who lost to Ruben Studdard in the closest finale vote in “American Idol” history. Last year’s finalist Alejandro Aranda snagged 6% after losing to country singer Laine Hardy. Katharine McPhee finished in fourth place with 4% of voters who thought she should have defeated Taylor Hicks in Season 5.

The Pate twins, Josh and Jonas, have spent the last two decades toiling away behind the scenes of the small screen, producing TV series that haven’t quite managed to capture the world’s attention enough to become heavy hitters. Aquarius, Believe, Blood & Oil, Surface and even Caprica were all perfectly fine, but they don’t tend to be talked about amongst the standout shows of the 00s and 10s. Now, together with Syriana consultant Shannon Burke, the twins are bringing a new teen treasure-hunting drama series to Netflix.

Through the end of July, Warner Bros. was approximately 30% behind where they were in 2017, a year in which the studio topped $2 billion domestically for only the second time in its history. Thanks to the August releases of The Meg and Crazy Rich Asians, that difference was cut down to -21% by the end of August, and, as of September 3, the studio topped $1 billion in domestic earnings and is pacing just -19% behind 2017. We mention this only because Warner Bros. is about to deliver yet another box office hit this weekend in the form of The Nun, the latest film in the ever-expanding Conjuring Universe and this one is looking to deliver a franchise record opening. Debuting in 3,876 locations, The Nun is outpacing all previous films in the Conjuring Universe by a healthy margin when looking at IMDb page view data leading up to release. So much so that our $45 million weekend forecast almost feels conservative.

The number of films being prepared about the recent cave rescue in northern Thailand has risen to six, according to Thai government sources.
Thailand’s Ministry of Culture says it expects the military government’s Cabinet next week to approve the establishment of a special committee to oversee all film projects relating to the dramatic mission.
“Five international film production companies have proposed to the commerce and foreign ministries that they make a movie and a documentary about the rescue operation,” Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat said Thursday. At least one Thai company is also developing a film.
Rojpojchanarat did not identify any of the production firms, although two were quick to pounce on the story, with one scouting locations near Chiang Rai even before all 13 boys and their soccer coach had been extracted.

The Thai cave rescue will be the subject of not one, but two competing movies.
“Now You See Me 2” director Jon M. Chu and Ivanhoe Pictures are teaming up on a movie about the rescue operation a day after Pure Flix Entertainment announced it was seeking the movie rights to the mission.
Chu last partnered with Ivanhoe in directing the upcoming romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians.” Ivanhoe, an Sk Global company, is currently in talks with the most senior officials in Thailand, both on provincial and national levels, about the rescue project. The company is also currently in talks with multiple studios that have shown interest in this project.
Chu signaled that he was working on the project on Wednesday with a tweet, which appeared to slam Pure Flix’s efforts. “I refuse to let Hollywood #whitewashout the Thai Cave rescue story! No way. Not on our watch,” he wrote.
