There were plans to include segments on gaming, anime, and technology, but these were discarded due to pre-production delays, with the intention to reincorporate them if the series continued beyond a first season. However, after the release of the first season, the decision was made not to reintroduce these segments.
The series title is stylised and spelled as "ZEITGEIST!", with all of the letters capitalised and including the exclamation mark.
Two pilots were filmed for the series; the first was shot at Aeon Bar & Grill in February 2019 and the second at the Garrison Savannah in May 2019. The second pilot was used for a test screening as part of market research conducted during the pre-production stage of season one.
Development on the series began in December 2018. It is a spin-off of Kota Forde-Cumberbatch's online, blog-format magazine, Zeitgeist Entertainment Magazine. Launched in September, 2016, the magazine was renamed and re-branded in order to align with the series in 2021.
