On Wednesday, a Phillies fan and his emotional support alligator were denied entrance to the ballpark to watch Philadelphia host Pittsburgh.
Footage of the alligator on a leash and a harness with his name “Wally” on it went viral on social media.
Wally is an emotional support alligator owned by Joie Henney, 70, a resident of Jonestown, Pennsylvania. The reptile has garnered a big following on social media.
Citizen Bank Park’s policy on support animals is posted on the Phillies’ official website: “Guide dogs, service animals, or service animals in training are welcome. All other animals are prohibited.”
Henney spoke to The Philadelphia Inquirer last year, and asserted that Wally helps him battle his depression and “he likes to give hugs.” Henney swore that the gator had never bitten anyone.

Being a Kaiju fan wasn’t always this easy. Not only were dubbed and subtitled copies of Japanese monster movies hard to come by before the advent of online streaming and boutique Blu-rays, but it was also hard to find other cinephiles with the same taste for rubber-suits and cardboard destruction. Fortunately, times have changed, with the rise of internet culture allowing what were once niche interests to find their way into mainstream culture.
However, while general audiences are now mostly aware of Godzilla and his titanic rogues’ gallery, there’s still a whole world of untapped kaiju flicks out there, just waiting to be discovered by a new generation of fans. And with the internet making even the most obscure creature features more accessible, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six Kaiju movies that aren’t Godzilla-related.

Filmmaker Christopher Landon loves a good scare. But while the man behind such contemporary horror hits as five (!!) of the “Paranormal Activity” films, “Happy Death Day,” “Freaky,” and “Viral” is best associated with his terrifying stuff, he’s got other tricks and treats on his mind.
Landon’s latest film, the Netflix outing “We Have a Ghost,” which he wrote and directed, smacks of horror — it follows a family, including Anthony Mackie, Erica Ash, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, and Niles Fitch, who move into a new house and discover it comes complete with a ghost, played by David Harbour — it’s also a bit more family-friendly, certainly funny, and driven by ideas about what happens when something gets big on the internet. It’s another evolution for Landon, who seems more than ready to subvert expectations when it comes to what he’s interested in making.

If you somehow haven't heard yet, Netflix is coming out with a Mötley Crüe biopic, and it looks seriously wild. Based on Mötley Crüe's bestselling 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, this long-awaited biopic will follow the story of the heavy metal band's rise from obscurity to super stardom and international fame during the course of the 1980s. What's even crazier than the stories drugs, alcohol, and groupies told in the book (which are supposedly all true) is the incredibly stacked cast, and we can't imagine a better person to play Mötley Crüe's founding member and drummer Tommy Lee than Machine Gun Kelly.

Jason Blum made his name in the movies, but he loves television. The Blumhouse founder loves television so much, he wishes he could be a showrunner.
“My wife is a writer, and I always say the one thing that I would aspire to more than anything else is the job of a showrunner,” Blum said in an interview with IndieWire. “The single most interesting job to me in Hollywood is a showrunner. The idea of creating a world, getting to see the world live and breath over multiple years — if you’re good at it — is fascinating.”
This admiration, in part, is why Blum respects television enough to know what separates it from film.
“It is different,” Blum said, ticking off divergent examples like TV’s “rhythm”, or how its time restrictions are really creative gifts in disguise (“parameters create better storytelling”), or even just the shooting style: “[TV] is shot...

In case you were wondering, that bizarre Jim Carrey interview from a few weeks back wasn’t an anomaly. The man who brought us Ace Ventura and the Mask still believes that none of us exist and nothing matters, though he does seem to take it all in stride during his appearance on “Norm Macdonald Live.”
After joking about the fact that “every once in a while, somebody you really admire hates your guts,” Carrey reveals two people who weren’t fans of him: Chuck Jones and Tommy Lee Jones.

From the director of Annabelle and starring Joey King (The Conjuring), Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Shannon Purser (Barb from Stranger Things) and Sydney Park (The Walking Dead), Wish Upon is a wickedly chilling story about an alluring object imbued with sinister and dangerous powers, a cautionary tale that takes the ‘be careful what you wish for’ theme to frightening new levels…
17-year-old Clare Shannon (King) is barely surviving the hell that is high school, along with her friends, Meredith (Park) and June (Purser). So, when her dad (Phillippe) gifts her an old music box with an inscription that promises to grant the owner’s wishes, she thinks there is nothing to lose. Clare makes her first wish and, to her surprise, it comes true. Before long, she finally has it all: money, popularity and her dream boy. Everything seems perfect—until the people closest to...

By now, horror fans are used to Blumhouse Productions’ surprise “dumping” strategy, where a handful never-before-seen titles hit Netflix/VOD without warning. This explains why you might not have known about Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman’s second feature this year, Viral, until – well – now. Movies like Mockingbird, Mercy, and The Veil don’t make you question why Blum chose to unceremoniously push them out, but Viral does. There’s more to Christopher Landon and Barbara Marshall’s screenplay than squirmy invaders and teenage chills, that I urge you to discover from the comfort of your sofa and surround sound setup.

Scream Factory is keeping busy with a trio of releases—Bite, The Binding, and the Collector’s Edition release of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)—and Anchor Bay has a pair of indie genre offerings, Viral and Lazer Team, coming out on August 2nd as well. Ben Wheatley’s stunning adaptation of High-Rise is also coming home on Tuesday, and if you missed it last month, Most Likely to Die makes its way to DVD this week, too.
Other notable releases include DVDs of Panzer, Summer Camp, The Suffering, and the Blu-ray release of The Night Visitor.

It’s no surprise that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass’s return to the “Jason Bourne” franchise topped this weekend. It’s a near-replicate of last – a new franchise entry hits its mark, then two more lower-budget wide openers do less combined, but enough to boost the weekend totals above the previous year. “Jason Bourne,” more than “Star Trek Beyond,” exceeded pre-opening estimates.
Oddly, all three openers scored A or A- from audience pollster Cinemascore. (This is rare for any one week outside of awards season.) Their Metacritic ratings were more mixed, in the tiny range of 58-60. Their budgets also varied, with $120-million “Jason Bourne” (Universal) coming in at triple the combined cost of the other two (Stx’s “Bad Moms” and Lionsgate’s “Nerve” both cost around $20 million). As always, costs determines the ultimate box office winners and losers.
Why “Jason Bourne” soared $10 million above expectations.
1. Stars like Matt Damon still matter.

Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost are having a good week. The “Nerve” directors opened their latest film on Tuesday evening to a stellar $1.1 million, and by the time they sat down with IndieWire on Wednesday afternoon, it was trucking its way to an estimated first-day take of $3.8 million. Not too bad for a mid-week, mid-summer release about an online game gone bad.
And that’s not the only thing the duo have on their plate right now: The long-time filmmaking pair are opening another film this week, the horror feature “Viral,” which will hit limited release and VOD on Friday. It’s clear, however, that “Nerve” is their primary concern and one they’re very pleased to see hitting the zeitgeist so perfectly.

Following their creepy Catfish mockumentary, directing duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman turned to the horror genre proper with the Paranormal Activity franchise. The pair delivered the third and fourth installments of the now-completed series – the third is in my opinion the scariest of the lot – and clearly they got a taste for the little genre that could. And so, for their next outing they’re re-teaming with Blumhouse chief Jason Blum to make the chills creep farther up our spines in Virus.
As its title implies, the movie is orchestrated around a virus. In this case, it’s a parasitic infection dubbed Worm Flu that turns people into sprinting loons with a desire to vomit worm blood into other people’s mouths. Who said the infection genre was dead?

The Weinstein Company has released the trailer for their new movie Viral, which is coming out this summer. The film centers around two sisters trying to escape their town once it has been hit with a mysterious virus. The film stars Sofia Black-d'Elia (Project Almanac), Analeigh Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love), and Michael Kelly (House of Cards).
Teenaged sisters Emma (Sofia Black-d’Elia) and Stacey (Analeigh Tipton) live a normal life, until their small suburban neighborhood is stricken with a mysterious parasitic virus. As the disease rapidly spreads throughout the town, the two band together to barricade themselves from infection. But it may already be too late – when the virus enters their home, the sisters are faced with an impossible choice: protect each other, or survive the virus.
