Steven Spielberg has been one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood since the 70s. The director has tackled every genre and has shown that he can confidently execute them with conviction. It’s hard to believe that such diverse films like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Color Purple Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and Minority Report came from one filmmaker.

The director is set to return to his sci-fi roots with the announced UFO film. With this film, the director is also making a unique change to his filmography as he is finally making an original story that he came up with rather than adaptations of books or real-life historical events.

Based on Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 novel of the same name, Steven Spielberg’s 2011 film War Horse received widespread praise upon its release. However, one notable individual that the film failed to impress is the original author of the story, Morpurgo himself, who later said that the film adaptation could have been much better.

Veteran filmmaker Steven Spielberg has a knack for bringing people to tears, be it from his star-studded masterpieces of work like Schindler’s List or simply by his words. Surprisingly enough, one of his victims was none other than the iconic Loki portraying Hollywood heartthrob in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Hiddleston.

This was way before Hiddleston had even joined the MCU in his fan-favorite role, back in 2010. And the way he was almost driven to tears was just through a conversation with the Indiana Jones director where the Hollywood mogul offered him a role in one of his best movies to date: Spielberg’s 2011 war/action film, War Horse.

Steven Spielberg’s legacy is a much-renowned one, unmarred by time and the arrival of new talent. His films have established a new era in Hollywood, through Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. Despite the presence of evolved technologies and newer creatives, not many have been able to recreate the scale of Spielberg’s career or overthrow his status as a living legend.

After a series of Covid-related delays, production finally got underway on the long-gestating Silent Hill "requel" last year in Germany, and a first official image from the movie has been released ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The still (via Fandango) gives us a first look at a redesigned take on the big bad of the survival horror video game series, Pyramid Head.
Pyramid Head, also known as "Red Pyramid", "Red Pyramid Thing" and "Triangle Head," was introduced in the second game, and his distinctive visage has gone on to become arguably the most iconic piece of imagery from the franchise.
This new version of the character doesn't look a million miles away from the video game take, but the pyramid-shaped helmet appears to be winder and longer.
Check out the still at the link below.

Michael Douglas is in terrific form as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s new historical limited series “Franklin” but he isn’t the only actor to emerge with awards whispers whizzing through the air. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.
The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. The scenes between Douglas and Marsan are nothing short of spectacular and Marsan nails his performance as Adams, as noted by critics.
Clint Worthington (Roger Ebert) noted: “Marsan’s energy as Adams is decidedly different from Paul Giamatti’s in Ellis’ original 2008 miniseries—“Franklin” feels...

With Zendaya’s new tennis movie, Challengers, dropping on Friday, fans couldn’t help but notice the Peter Parker lovers to tennis players pipeline of the three Spider-Man actresses. Zendaya’s role as a tennis player in Challengers follows Kirsten Dunst’s Lizzie Bradbury in Wimbledon and Emma Stone’s Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes. However, fans find that tennis is not the only thing common between them, as all three of them dated their Spider-Man co-stars.

Zendaya and Tom Holland’s relationship is still going strong despite the breakup rumors. They were spotted together at the Dune: Part Two celebration event. Their relationship has probably run longer than the other two pairs’ short-lived relationships put together.

Freya Allan clearly hasn’t gotten her fill of working on material that involves magic and monsters with her role on the Netflix series The Witcher, as she also has the lead role in the new horror film Baghead, which was given a theatrical release in the UK back in January. Now Shudder has announced that Baghead will be available to stream on their service (and on AMC+) as of Friday, April 5th. So if you’re a Shudder or AMC+ subscriber, you’ll have the chance to watch this movie in just a couple weeks. You can watch the trailer for Baghead, along with a clip from the film, at This Link.

Since their inception, the directing categories at the Tony Awards have mostly been a boys’ club. Not only are the vast majority of winners men, but so are most of the nominees. But the 2024 ceremony could upend these statistics as more women are helming Broadway shows than ever before. This could finally be the year where they make up the majority of directing nominees.
This season there are 13 women directors on Broadway. Four of them will contend for Best Director of a Play: Lila Neugebauer (“Appropriate” and “Uncle Vanya”), Anne Kauffman (“Mary Jane”), Tina Landau (“Mother Play”), and Whitney White (“Jaja’s African Hair Braiding”). Another nine women will vie for Best Director of a Musical: Sammi Canold (“How to Dance in Ohio”), Rachel Chavkin (“Lempicka”), Rebecca Frecknall (“Cabaret”), Maria Friedman (“Merrily We Roll Along“), Mari Madrid, Leigh Silverman (“Suffs”), Jessica Stone (“Water for Elephants”), Danya Taymor (“The Outsiders”), and...

Despite the star casting, Slave Play playwright Jeremy O. Harris assures audiences that Harington’s presence will not be a “distraction.”

Although he has personally competed for the Best Picture Oscar as a qualifying producer of just four films, Martin Scorsese is responsible for directing 10 of the top Academy Award category’s nominees, including 2024 contender “Killers of the Flower Moon.” This recent improvement upon his total makes him only the third filmmaker in Oscars history to helm a double-digit amount of Best Picture nominees. Including him, six people who were already credited with directing at least one nominee rose higher in the ranks this year.
The previous Scorsese films that vied for Best Picture are 2007 winner “The Departed” (for which he earned his sole directing trophy) and nominees “Taxi Driver” (1977), “Raging Bull” (1981), “Goodfellas” (1991), “Gangs of New York” (2003), “The Aviator” (2005), “Hugo” (2012), “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2014), and “The Irishman” (2020). The original Doughtlander may not be over, but Outlander: Blood of My Blood hopes to close the gap.
For sure, it will be taking over where Outlander leaves off, even if it explores a story long before Jamie and Claire were figments of their parents' imagination.
Here’s what we know bout Blood of My Blood Season 1 so far.
What is Outlander?
It’s best to start with what we know, which is what came before. Outlander is based on a series of books by author Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander is a time-traveling love story between 20th-century (married) nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser and 18th-century Jamie Fraser.
When visiting the ancestral home of her husband, Frank, Claire stumbles through the rocks at Craigh na Dun, which takes her back in time.
Unable to easily find her way back, the sassy lady leans on handsome laird Jamie for protection, and soon, they are in love.

[Warning” This article contains spoilers for “Fargo” Season 5, Episode 7.]
Over the first six episodes of “Fargo” Season 5, audiences have put together Dorothy Lyon’s backstory. Abused by the misogynist Sheriff Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), Dot (Juno Temple) escaped and started a new life under a new name, becoming a wife and mother who is now willing to go to any lengths to protect her family. But in the seventh episode, “Linda,” Dot finally shares the extent of her abuse through a marionette show.
There’s a very good reason why Dot uses marionettes to recount meeting the kindly Linda as a teen and moving in with Linda, her husband, Roy, and their son: She’s tracked Linda down at a commune for formerly abused women, and this is how they all share their stories. But “Fargo” uses the art form to create something out of one of the darker Grimm Brothers tales, a horrifying glimpse into...

The career of director Steven Spielberg has practically defined modern blockbusters, but he’s also been able to craft more personal films as well. Let’s rank Spielberg’s entire filmography from worst to best in a new photo gallery of his 33 theatrical features.
Spielberg’s reputation as a master entertainer came with the release of “Jaws,” his 1975 shark attack thriller. Made when he was just 29 years old, the film set box office records and made the summer safe for blockbusters again. Such following films as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977), “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (1982) cemented Spielberg’s ability to create spectacular amusements that brought audiences to their feet.
He later moved into serious filmmaking with “The Color Purple” (1985), which paved the way for his 1993 Holocaust drama “Schindler’s List” (1993). That film swept the Academy Awards, bringing Spielberg Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture.

Tom Hiddleston’s Cinematic Voyage: Breaking Free from Loki and the Marvel Universe ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
In the vibrant tapestry of Hollywood, Tom Hiddleston first caught my attention in 2011 when he brought the mischievous Loki to life in Thor. However, his journey into the realm of cinema began long before that iconic role. Hiddleston’s cinematic voyage commenced with memorable performances in Joanna Hogg’s film Unrelated (2007). As Loki gained widespread recognition within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hiddleston expanded his horizons beyond the MCU, taking on a prominent leading role in the high-budget film Kong: Skull Island (2017). This venture underscored his versatility, proving his ability to command the big screen with distinction.
Beyond the glitz of Hollywood blockbusters, Hiddleston is a seasoned stage performer. His theatrical journey began with a remarkable debut in Journey’s End in 1999, marking the inception of a prolific stage career. Engaging in various theatrical productions, including...

Chicago – One of the great “characters” in Yorgos Lanthinmos excellent new film “Poor Things” is undoubtably the costumes that Bella (Emma Stone) wears. The costume designer behind those works of art is Holly Waddington, and HollywoodChicago.com talked to her at the Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff) in October.
“Poor Things” begins with Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), a doctor whose procedures are revolutionizing operations in the early 1900s. When a pregnant woman (Emma Stone) attempts suicide by throwing herself in a London river, Godwin fishes her out, takes her baby’s brain, transplants into the distraught woman’s body, re-animates her Frankenstein-style, and raises her as an experiment … renaming her Bella. Godwin recruits his student Max (Ramy Youssef) to observe and record her as she develops her new consciousness, and the hapless man-boy falls in love with her. Freya Allan clearly hasn’t gotten her fill of working on material that involves magic and monsters with her role on the Netflix series The Witcher, as she also has the lead role in the upcoming horror film Baghead, which is aiming for a January 2024 release. While a specific release date hasn’t yet been announced, a trailer for the film has made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
First announced four years ago, Baghead went into production in late 2021 and is a feature expansion of director Alberto Corredor’s 2017 short of the same name. Scripted by Christina Pamies and Bryce McGuire, the film has the following synopsis: After the death of her estranged father, Iris learns she has inherited a run-down, centuries-old pub. She travels to Berlin to identify her father’s body and meet with The Solicitor to discuss the estate.

“Maestro” brought together three filmmakers — the sophomore director Bradley Cooper and the screen masters Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese — as producers. “Maestro” chronicles the marriage of famed composer Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) and his muse Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan). In her first feature documentary, the Oscar-nominated vérité marvel Honeyland, Tamara Kotevska shared the helm with Ljubomir Stefanov to illuminate a remote corner of the world. With her second film, she turns her attention to a headline story unfolding under all our noses, the global refugee crisis. Though the subject is more directly political this time around, the director has filtered it through a creative lens, fashioning what she calls a fairy tale. Like all good fairy tales, it offers a heightened version of reality, fusing the fantastic to the everyday. At its center is Little Amal, the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl.
The Walk takes its name from an international project designed to raise awareness and funds to help displaced children. Amal and her puppeteers, led by artistic director Amir Nizar Zuabi, have traveled thousands of miles in more than a dozen countries since July 2021, and...

Steven Spielberg first met Marvel star Tom Hiddleston for his World War 1 film War Horse. And according to Hiddleston, collaborating with the filmmaker was an experience he isn’t likely to forget.
Tom Hiddleston almost cried after his conversation with Steven Spielberg
Hiddleston and Spielberg first worked together on the 2011 feature War Horse. The movie was based on a novel of the same name. It centered around a horse named Joey that was purchased by the British Army during World War I, leading to a grand adventure.
Hiddleston ended up playing one of the captains who ended up buying the horse. Like many actors, Hiddleston grew up as a fan of Spielberg at the time. So when Spielberg personally contacted the actor for War Horse, he was both understandably nervous and excited.
“I’ll never forget it – time slowed down,” Hiddleston once said according to HuffPost. “I got a call...

“The Zone of Interest” is a remarkable fourth film from Jonathan Glazer. The film, which A24 releases in the US on December 8, follows Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller) as they try to live a normal life just outside of the concentration camp.
The movie is about the banality of evil — how monstrous people live almost boringly while, in the background, some of the worst horrors in human history are being carried out. Daring is probably the best word to describe this film, particularly with one very late sequence that throws the film forward to modern-day Auschwitz, wherein we see women cleaning the buildings and grounds of the camp. Critics have hailed Glazer for his work.
David Rooney (The Hollywood Reporter) called the film a “devastating Holocaust drama like no other, which demonstrates with startling effectiveness [director Jonathan Glazer]’s unerring control of tonal and visual storytelling.

Guess how many times cinema legends Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg have gone head-to-head at the Oscars?
With 37 nominations between them and five decades of indelible classics, such as the gangster epic “Casino” (1995) and the shark thriller “Jaws” (1975), you might assume at least half a dozen ceremonies have seen both auteurs prominently recognized.
Read: Variety’s Awards Circuit for the latest Oscars predictions in all categories.
Well, guess again. There’s been only one face-off, and it wasn’t even in the best director category. It was in the 2012 race for best picture between two of their arguably less-talked-about features — Scorsese’s Parisian adventure epic “Hugo” and Spielberg’s World War I drama “War Horse.”
They lost to Michel Hazanavicius’ silent-era drama “The Artist”.

Currently among Gold Derby’s top 10 films likely to receive Best Picture bids at this year’s Oscars are “The Color Purple” and “Maestro.” What both movies have in common is that they happen to be produced by Steven Spielberg. If they both get in as expected, this would be the first time Spielberg personally received Oscar nominations for two different movies in the same year.
“The Color Purple” follows Celie Harris Johnson (Fantasia Barrino), an African-American woman living in the South during the early 1900s. Spielberg was previously nominated for producing the 1985 film adaptation of Alice Walker‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, which he also directed. This new movie, which is adapted from the 2005 Tony-winning stage musical iteration, is currently in fifth place for Best Picture with 11/1 odds.

It’s a case of one score to rule them all, as Howard Shore’s stirring epic soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings trilogy was voted the U.K.’s favorite movie music.

If watching a movie can be compared to taking your emotions for a walk, then sad films challenge audiences with a full-on sprint. Since before Rose said goodbye to Jack or even Bambi lost his mother, tragedy has played a vital role in cinema’s most well-loved stories of every ilk.
For romance, the possibility of heartbreak raises the stakes, pitting lover against lover or, worse still, lovers against time in dazzling depictions of humanity’s enduring quest for security and acceptance. “Titanic,” “A Star is Born,” “Moonlight,” “Brokeback Mountain,” “Up,” and countless other legendary titles have crafted couples so heart-rendingly believable that their joyous reunions and painful partings have provided powerful parallels to our own.
Epic tales of war and survival position total devastation similarly, dangling all-consuming grief and loss like narratively juicy carrots motivating the plodding agony of movies from “War Horse” to “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey.

The 2023 Tony Awards race for Best Play has already made history, even before the winner will be revealed on June 11. For the first time, three Pulitzer Prize-winning dramas were nominated in the same season for the top honor. According to Gold Derby’s theatre pundits, though, none of those works will take home the prize. Sam Eckmann and I recently reconvened to debate this “extraordinarily strong category” and the 10 other play races ahead of Sunday’s ceremony. Watch the full video slugfest above.

Exclusive: After a herniated disc during a Cats performance prompted Rob Marshall to switch from dancer to director, his first feature, Chicago, won Best Picture. It has been a charmed run for Marshall since, with hits from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to Memoirs of a Geisha, Nine, Annie, Into the Woods and Mary Poppins Returns.
