In the world of television, first impressions are everything. A great pilot episode is a promise to the audience, telling them what the show is about and how it will go about it, in the hopes that people will be so impressed that they'll tune in every week. If you don't grab them early, you might lose them altogether.
Case in point: If you watch the first episode of Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" you'll find that it is one of the most striking TV series debuts in history. The disturbing standalone tale "Where Is Everybody?" stars Earl Holliman ("Police Woman") as a man who finds himself in a town without any people in it. It's completely deserted from top to bottom, or is it? He keeps coming across signs that people were here, and he only just missed them. Trapped in a completely open world, alone in a...

Fxx comedy Dave has covered a lot in its three seasons, but series star Dave Burd (aka Lil Dicky) has asserted that the latest episodes are some of the best of the series, which uses witty satire to touch upon sensitive topics. The April 26 episode, “The Storm,” is one of those, and it opens with Dave receiving some harsh reactions from fans in Mississippi after he chooses to serenade plus-sized Meg (Melanie Erlich) on stage. As a peace offering, Dave insists that Meg ride with the crew to their next show in Memphis, but they’re soon forced to seek shelter from a passing hurricane at Meg’s “insanely” conservative Christian home. As the crew joins the family for dinner, the conversation reveals varying religious and political views and allows for actor-rapper GaTa to open up about his battles with addiction and abandonment. TV Insider was lucky enough to sit...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “The Storm,” the April 26 episode of Fxx’s “Dave,” now streaming on Hulu.
On the Fxx show “Dave,” rapper Lil Dicky’s friend and collaborator GaTa is the best friend and hype man we all wish we had — always around to provide for a few words of encouragement and inspiration, but just as available to deliver some plainspoken wisdom when it’s most needed. That the relationship between Dave Burd and Davionte Ganter mirrors the one they have in real life only amplifies the emotional intensity — and the humor — of their moments together on screen. Burd’s own open-book honesty has further encouraged GaTa to open up about his mental health struggles as storylines on the show, leading to several of the most powerful episodes across its three seasons, including this week’s “The Storm.”

The Walking Dead franchise is showing no signs of slowing down.
AMC has handed a ten-episode order to a third live-action TV series set in the post-apocalyptic world.
The follow-up to Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead is co-created Scott M. Gimple and longtime The Walking Dead writer Matt Negrete has landed a ten episode order.
According to AMC the series will “feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
The series does not have an official title, but we do know that it will enter production in the summer for a 2020 debut.

With The Walking Dead Season 9 in the can, fans are looking ahead to the upcoming tenth season of the post-apocalyptic drama.
The show lost Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan early into the ninth season, and Danai Gurira has already been revealed as the show's next big exit and will appear in only a handful of episodes of the upcoming season.
With familiar faces leaving the show in their droves, many have questioned whether Norman Reedus could be the next to go. Reedus has played Daryl Dixon since the show debuted back in 2010.
Losing him would be a massive blow to the series, but it sounds like Reedus is in it for the long haul with the AMC hit.

The Walking Dead season 9 wrapped up this Sunday, bringing an end to a run that’s been very well-received by fans. The unfortunate thing is, though, that the up-turn in quality hasn’t been able to stop a general decline in viewing figures.
Deadline reports that episode 16, “The Storm,” raked in 5.02 million viewers on the whole, with just 2.4 million from the key 18-49 demographic, thereby earning it a 1.9 rating. That’s a fair chunk lower – 16%, to be exact – than the previous lowest-rated finale, season 1’s “Ts-19,” which received 5.95 million viewers back in 2010.
That said, “The Storm” did increase by 21% in viewers and 25% in terms of the key demo from the previous week’s penultimate episode. That’s less impressive, however, when you remember that the episode titled “The Calm Before” only earned 4.15 million – which makes it the least-viewed outing in the nine-year history of the show.

There were a lot of scalps this year on The Walking Dead, including the ratings for the Season 9 finale.
From the exits of Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan to time jumps, the partial upcoming departure of Danai Gurira and an iconic massacre, the latest run of the AMC zombie apocalypse series has successfully reset in many ways, but took a big hit with Sunday’ “The Storm.”
Having pulled in 5 million viewers overall and 2.4 million in the 18-49 demographic for a 1.9 rating, Twd fell to an all-time finale low with the March 31 Greg Nicotero-direct episode. While up double digits from the penultimate and bloody “The Calm Before” of March 24, the Season 9 ender fell 37% in viewers and 44% in the key demo from the Season 8 finale of April 15 last year.
Put another way, the just over one-hour Season 9 ender is down 16% in total sets of eyeballs from previous season finale low of...

Chandler Riggs, who played the love-him-or-hate-him Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead for the first eight seasons, hasn’t ever had much of a problem holding back his feelings about being killed off in the show since it happened. Sometimes, it takes long, carefully thought out paragraphs piled on top of paragraphs to properly express your feelings. For Riggs, though, it can only take six words.

What followed was a barrage of questions, with some asking (warning: spoiler alert) whose voice was coming from Eugene’s radio at the end of the episode.

The Walking Dead has now wrapped up its ninth season, so fans have got all of spring and summer to wait until the hit show returns for its tenth run in the fall. We’ve already got our first details on the opening episode of the season, however, thanks to some comments showrunner Angela Kang made to EW.
Yesterday’s finale, “The Storm,” saw the survivors having to deal with a fierce blizzard. Kang confirmed that this would be a one-off situation as the season 10 premiere will pick up after a certain amount of time, though fans shouldn’t expect anything like another six-year time jump – which happened midway through season 9.
“Things are going to pick up with a little bit more of a time passage, not a giant one like we’ve had, but winter will be over and people will be going to be in a different emotional space.

Last night’s episode of The Walking Dead season 9 featured a pretty important milestone for the TV show. While the comic books have explored surviving a post-apocalyptic world during a harsh winter since their early days, the finale, titled “The Storm,” was the first time the survivors have had to face a tough blizzard on screen. And what’s more, the frost-bitten zombies that are out there.
The episode made good use of the walkers, too. The frozen zombies discovered by our heroes were eerie and the walkers bursting out of the snow was the horror highlight of the hour. However, there is one big problem with the way the undead were presented in “The Storm.” And that’s, how the heck were the ones under the snow not frozen when the others were?
This is something that Walking Dead fans had a lot to say about online, as evidenced by the tweets below.

“How much more can she take?” wondered Melissa McBride after her character Carol lost yet another child on AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” McBride recently sat down with “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick to address the shocking death of Henry (Matt Lintz) in the penultimate episode of Season 9, years after losing her daughter Sophia (Madison Lintz) in Season 2. “Aside from just being sad that Matt Lintz was going to be leaving, I just thought it was interesting for the character of Carol. Again, here we go.” She then turned to showrunner Angela Kang and proclaimed, “Stop it — please!”

The final episode of The Walking Dead Season 9 was heavy on the snow, but it did seem to confirm that a former villain had let his cold heart thaw out.
Yes, we're talking about Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) here!
The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 16, titled "The Storm" focused on how the communities were dealing with a blizzard that was pushing them to the depths of despair.
As Negan, Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Judith (Cailey Fleming), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Siddiq (Avi Nash), and Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) made their way to Aaron's house with the aim of getting some heat, Judith broke off from the group when she heard Dog barking.

AMC's summer programming will heat up with the return of Fear the Walking Dead on Sunday, June 2 at 9/8c.
The official trailer for Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 dropped on Sunday during the show's WonderCon panel, and it was filled with surprises.
Two of those big surprises revolve around appearances of characters we've met before:
Daniel Salazar who has cheated death on more than one occasion at this stage returns and wastes no time in breaking the ice between him and Strand.

Then there's Dwight from The Walking Dead. If you watch The Walking Dead online, you know that Daryl ousted the reformed savior and allowed him to make an escape.
However, Daryl warned that he would kill him if he ever laid eyes on him again. It looks like Dwight skipped several states with the aim of steering clear of his frenemy.

This Season On “The Walking Dead”
It’s been an oddly successful season of “The Walking Dead,” despite the many narrative stops-and-starts baked in to accommodate various “new beginnings” (both in-story and on the creative side with new showrunner Angela Kang) as well as the departure of two major characters. When your season has three time-jumps, things are clearly being shaken up, and while the initial jump forward of the premiere sought to put some distance between the Seasons 7 and 8, the departure of Andrew Lincoln meant that the opening episodes of Season 9 were all dedicated to setting up Rick’s send off, only to ultimately see him shuffled off for a movie or two, rather than the cataclysmic death the audience expected. Then came the Whisperers, and the fair, and the heads on pikes, and everything went to hell. Now one more (small-ish) time jump later,...

Is everyone recovered yet?
Tonight, The Walking Dead aired its penultimate episode of season 9. Though the title was “The Calm Before,” the calm brought about by Ezekiel’s fair certainly didn’t last long, as Alpha and the Whisperers were on hand to make sure it all ended in bloodshed, taking the lives of many of the survivors in the process.
What with this and Michonne’s encounter with murderous kids last week, Twd has been pretty heavy-going of late. And the drama’s only about to heat up as we go into the season finale. Titled “The Storm” – can you see what they did there? – the synopsis below promises that the subject of the episode’s name is both metaphorical, as our heroes face new horrors, and also literal, as a winter blizzard takes hold of the environment.

“In the aftermath of an overwhelming loss, the communities must brave...

The Walking Dead is reaching the end of its ninth season as this Sunday marks the penultimate episode of what’s been a truly dramatic run of the show. And to help it go out with a bang, episode 15 – titled “The Calm Before” – will be a special extended one. If you want specifics, it’ll be 57 minutes in total without commercial breaks.
Going by what we think might happen in the episode, there’s good reason for this extra long runtime. On the surface, “The Calm Before” will offer the survivors a chance to have a good time as Ezekiel’s trade fair that’ll bring together the various communities gets underway. The promo images for the installment have even shown typically sullen characters like Michonne cracking a smile. Let’s not forget though that the Whisperers are waiting in the wings and Alpha’s not about to let her...

The Walking Dead season 9 is drawing to a close, but before it comes to an end in just two weeks’ time, the survivors are due a bit of a breather. In episode 15, “The Calm Before,” the folks of Alexandria, the Hilltop and Oceanside come to the Kingdom to attend Ezekiel’s trade fair, which he hopes will start a new age of friendship between the different communities. The only thing is, the Whisperers are still out there.
The 10 new promo images below give us a taste of what’s to come in season 9’s penultimate episode and for once, most of them show the characters with big grins on their faces. You have Ezekiel and his queen, Carol, welcoming their guests, Henry and Lydia’s romance continuing to blossom, and even Michonne sports a smile as she introduces Judith to Carol, who hasn’t seen the girl since she was a toddler.

The Walking Dead has only two weeks left to go on its ninth season, following a seriously bleak episode last Sunday. The penultimate outing, “The Calm Before,” sounded like it might take the pressure off for the survivors a bit as they enjoy Ezekiel’s fair that’ll bring the communities together, but the synopsis for the finale reveals that things won’t go as smooth as the king would hope.
In fact, it sounds like the whole thing ends in tragedy, as the description for the finale, titled “The Storm” (see what they did there?), reveals that the assembled communities will have to deal with an “overwhelming loss.”
“In the aftermath of an overwhelming loss, the communities must brave a ferocious blizzard; as one group deals with an enemy from within, another is forced to make a life or death decision.”

Last night’s episode of The Walking Dead finally revealed the truth behind the matching ‘X’ scars sported by Michonne and Daryl since the 6-year time jump kicked off a quarter way through the season. Despite months of fan theories, we still had no idea to expect a backstory so dark and devastating. Seriously, season 9’s fourteenth episode “Scars” will likely go down as one of the toughest hours to watch in the show’s history.
The truth was that an old friend of Michonne’s, Jocelyn, was responsible. Since the apocalypse, she had become unhinged, raising a group of orphan children and shaping them into murderers. When Jocelyn’s group threatened Judith, her unborn son R.J. and the children of Alexandria, the pregnant Michonne was forced to take drastic action and kill the feral kids and their leader.
Her actions have weighed heavily on her ever since, hence...

The Walking Dead season 9 is coming to an end, and tonight’s episode – titled “Scars” – helped tie the season up in a bow by finally solving the mystery of the matching ‘X’ scars sported by Michonne and Daryl that’s been bugging us for months. Now that that’s out the way, this leaves us with just two installments left to go. And the promo for the penultimate outing teases some good…and some bad.
Next Sunday’s outing is titled “The Calm Before,” a name which makes more sense when you put it together with the title of the season finale, “The Storm.” As this suggests, the premise teases that things are starting to look up for the assembled communities but, this being The Walking Dead, things will soon turn sour. And likely pretty gory, too.
For more on what to expect, here’s the synopsis:

Separating the art from the artist has been more than a continued effort for many entertainment fans — it’s now a point of controversy as more damaging secrets spill out among our favorite writers, directors, and creators.
Roseanne Barr doesn’t have secrets, though. Roseanne Barr lays out every controversial aspect of her personal beliefs on Twitter. The world can see everything she has to say with the tap of an app. But the world is also getting to know Roseanne Barr in “Roseanne” — or, more accurately, they feel like they are.
Given the show’s title is the creator’s first name, it’s easy to see where the confusion comes from. Even though Roseanne Barr plays Roseanne Conner in “Roseanne,” that’s a lot of Roseannes to separate. And it doesn’t help that both Barr and Conner are outspoken supporters of Donald Trump.

"Sons of Tucson" star Tyler Labine initially turned down a role in CBS' pilot "True Love." He's changed his mind.
Labine, who also starred in The CW's "Reaper," will play one of the lead roles in the comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Elsewhere, "Melrose Place's" Jessica Lucas is joining an NBC comedy, and "Jag" star David James Elliott has come aboard ABC's "Scoundrels."
Labine was initially offered the "True Love" role in January, before "Sons of Tucson" premiered. He said no then, but now -- after "Sons" has debuted and has performed only modestly in the ratings -- he decided to say yes.
"True Love" centers on four people whit differeing views on love. Jason Biggs will play a guy who falls for a woman played by Minka Kelly, even though he's in a relationship, while Labine will play Biggs' friend, who doesn't believe in love.

Three days into filming, ABC has made a casting change on the dramedy series "Scoundrels."
David James Elliott has been tapped to co-star on the show, replacing Neal McDonough.
In pilot casting news, three NBC comedies have landed leads: Nick D'Agosto has joined "This Little Piggy," Jessica Lucas has boarded "Friends With Benefits," and Ashley Madekwe has been cast in "The Pink House."
Based on the New Zealand series "Outrageous Fortune," "Scoundrels" centers on the matriarch (Virginia Madsen) of a family of criminals who decides it's time for her brood to go straight after her husband (Elliott) is sentenced to a long prison term.
Former "Jag" star Elliott, repped by Paradigm, recently starred in the miniseries "Impact" and "The Storm."
"Piggy" centers on an underemployed woman (Brooke Bloom) and her materialistic brother (D'Agosto) who move in with their older sibling (Ben Koldyke).

Oh come on, you know you’ve been waiting for it. Haven’t you? Okay, even if you weren’t, here it is anyway, the trailer for Uwe Boll’s latest, a sorta-apocalyptic thriller (on a budget) called “Final Storm” (formerly “The Storm”). Luke Perry plays a bible-thumping fella who may be the last man alive besides a farmer and his wife, played by Lauren Holly. And oh yeah, their son, too. Here’s a very long and very spoiler-rific synopsis for the movie: Biblical rain, dying animals, and a blood red moon clearly, all is not well on the quiet farm in the countryside where Tom makes a living with his wife Gillian and their young son Graham. Before the cable and power goes out, glimpses of weather related catastrophes on a global scale are hinted upon. Amidst these eerie signs, a soft spoken man named Silas stumbles onto their property,...

So quietearth and I decided that the moratorium on all things Uwe Boll will be temporarily lifted due to two things. One, the raging Boll impressed us with his latest, Rampage (reviews here and here), and two, he's got an apocalypse thriller on the way called Final Storm (once called "The Storm"). So for now, he's on probation.
Extended Synopsis:
Biblical rain, dying animals and a blood red moon. Clearly, all is not well on the quiet farm in the countryside where Tom makes a living with his wife Gillian and their young son Graham.
Before the cable and power goes out, glimpses of weather related catastrophes on a global scale are hinted upon. Amidst these eerie signs, a soft spoken man named Silas stumbles onto their property, sick and cold. Even more disconcerting is how quiet Tom notices everything is... neighbors, cars, birds, crickets, all are nowhere to be seen nor heard.
