Harper is drawn into helping the Patriarch
As this episode opens Dylan, Harper and Rhade are aboard the Eureka Maru investigating smuggling of certain minerals when they are attacked by people looking for Harper. They are eventually caught and it emerges that The Patriarch is still alive and he needs Harper's engineering knowhow. He is planning to build a bridge between the planet and its moon... if that weren't enough to moon-end of the bridge is to be two hundred years in the future. Harper agrees to help on condition that that Rhade isn't executed... as completion approaches Dylan tells Harper not to activate the bridge... he is desperate to find out if it works though.
This enjoyable episode is a clear homage to the classic 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' so anybody familiar with that film will have a good idea what is likely to happen. That said the ending still provides a real surprise. It was fun seeing guest star Michael Ironside return as The Patriarch. The episode provides plenty of good action scenes and some tense moments. For a long time there has been talk of the arrival of the Magog world ship; here it is suggested that its arrival is imminent and unavoidable. Overall a pretty good episode which provides to good twists to a familiar story.
