This week, months of growing industrial action in the United Kingdom culminated in what was been dubbed "Walkout Wednesday." Half a million workers -- including teachers, civil servants, rail workers, bus drivers, Border Force officials, and university staff -- were on strike over pay and conditions, with thousands marching in cities across the country to demand action from the government. And Homer Simpson was on strike with them.
Just like America, reruns of "The Simpsons" have been a mainstay of British broadcast television for a long time, with Channel 4 currently airing episodes at 6pm on weekdays. And Wednesday's episode, by sheer coincidence (according to Channel 4), was "The Simpsons" season 4, episode 17, "Last Exit to Springfield."
In the episode, Homer becomes president of the International Brotherhood of Jazz Dancers, Pastry Chefs, and Nuclear Technicians, and leads his fellow nuclear power plant workers to strike after Mr. Burns removes the dental plan from the union contract.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Who is your favorite voice actor for animated characters on TV? Why?
Dave Trumbore (@DrClawMD), Collider
My knee-jerk reaction was either Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill for their roles as Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker, respectively, because “Batman: The Animated Series” is always on my mind. But thinking a moment more, my favorite voice actor (and arguably the best in the biz) is Frank Welker.

His name might not be a household one, but with over 800 credits and nearly 50 years in the industry, Welker’s voice definitely is.

The amazing true story of the greatest fan film ever made is coming home on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital!
Drafthouse Films and Mvd Entertainment have announced the upcoming home video release of Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on August 16th.
After Steven Spielberg's classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film, which the New York Times calls "a testament to the transporting power of movie love." They finished every scene...except one; the film's explosive airplane set piece.
Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece in what IGN has dubbed "the Boyhood of fan movies.

We’ve been hearing about this Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made documentary for years, and it finally has an official trailer and release date. The doc focuses on a group of passionate Indiana Jones fans who went out to make a shot-for-shot remake of Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. They started making the film as kids, but they didn’t finish it until 20 years later.
This film offers us every little detail of how it was made and all of the drama surrounding it. As a guy who used to make all kinds of films when I was growing up with my brothers and friends, I’m fascinated by this story. I’m sure many of us who got into making movies when we were kids will be able to relate to this story. Here’s the synopsis for the doc:...

HollywoodNews.com: Exclusive: Sting’s 60th birthday party at the Beacon Theater was a four hour celebration of the rock star’s career and songs with his own band and almost a dozen famous musicians performing his music. They included Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock, Lady Gaga. Branford Marsalis, will.i.am, Mary J. Blige, Chris Botti, Jimmy Nail, and Met Opera star Bryn Terfel. The latter opened the second act of the show with a rendition of “Roxanne” certain to become part of pop history–it was hilarious and serious at the same time, and showed how Sting’s punkiest new wave music has resonance in many forms.

Author: C.E. Grundler
Hazel grew up on the road with her truck-driver dad. Smart and feisty, and definitely lacking any sort of impulse-control, Hazel confronts a twisted conspiracy head-on. When her cousin goes Mia and the shady goons hunting him come looking for her, Hazel dives into the mess swinging.
You all know I have a bias against self-published book. Very rarely do I have a good experience reading one, or even dealing with the authors of self-pubbed books. I am so happy to be able to say Grundler and her book are shining examples of what self-published books should look, read, and behave like.
The story grabs you from the first page. Hazel is one of the best characters I’ve come across in a long time. She’s fearless, slightly psycho, but has this sweet vulnerable side that draws the reader into her life and refuses to let go.

Film geeks like to show off; it's in their job description. Whether it's debating the merits of Lars von Trier or discussing which Evil Dead film is the true masterpiece, it's just what they do. Well, thanks to entrepreneur Mike Ford, what they do has just gotten a bit easier to show off. Ford's UK-based company, Last Exit to Nowhere, sells T-shirts based on fictional companies and locations from films. And although the movies represented tend to skew a bit toward cult favorites (designs include the Winchester Tavern from Shaun of the Dead, the Urban Achievers from The Big Lebowski and Jaws' Amity Island), Ford says this was not deliberate.
