Move over, Hollywood, the much chillier Vancouver, Canada, has become a hot shooting spot, thanks to its tax breaks and unique ability to stand in for everything from sleepy Maine towns to superhero metropolises (even if its outdoor locales prove tricky in keeping secrets from fans). I suited up for a whopping eight set visits in four days to find out what makes Vancouver and the actors who call it their (temporary) home so special. (Feel free to play a drinking game with the words "rain" and "cold." I dare you.) The homeless 100 Much like the Mountain Men were doing...

Forget Route 666. The Devil’s Mile is an even more evil stretch of road in this new horror thriller starring David Hayter and directed by Joseph O’Brien, with whom we recently had a chance to chat about the film.
Devil's Mile follows a trio of kidnappers who take an ill-advised detour (is there any other kind?) en route to deliver their hostages – a pair of teenage girls - to their mysterious employer. When one of the girls dies along the way, the trio’s slowly-boiling mistrust explodes into chaos.
But what they thought was their worst day ever is only beginning as they are engulfed by the hellish forces that haunt the road - a road they may never escape.
Dread Central: This is one of the few indie horror movies that really lives up to the promo material. I'm curious to know how much the story evolved...

Press Release – Visionary designer and comics creator Dean Motter (Mister X, Electropolis, Batman: Nine Lives) returns with the purest expression of his patented retro futurism. The Compleat Terminal City collects all fourteen issues of the classic series, originally published in 1996, for the first time.
Terminal City is a place where transistor-tube robots rub elbows with old-time gangsters, where bright, shiny technologies cast deep noir shadows. The city has been in decline since a group of celebrated adventurers—Kid Gloves, the boxer; Monty Vickers, the explorer; Eno Orez, the man of 1,000 faces, and Cosmo Quinn, the human fly—were each disgraced or disappeared into obscurity. Now a series of mysteries involving an unopenable briefcase, a missing link in evolution, a daring lady in red, and an obscene skywriter brings the four men together once again—some on the side of the law, some involved in shady business—with explosive results!

Sanctuary returns to Syfy in the Us and Space in Canada in a few hours with its season four premiere ‘Tempus.’ It promises to be a drammatic opener with Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) trapped in the past and the rest of the sanctuary team trying to control abnormals in their own backyard and streaming out of Hollow Earth.
Flash forward thirteen episodes and Sanctuary fans will be anticipating what looks like being an equally epic season finale. CinemaSpy was at the shoot for that episode, ‘Sanctuary for None,’ at Vancouver’s Terminal City location (where parts of the Stargate Universe episode ‘Blockade’ were filmed) during the final days of shooting. We managed to snap a few shots of that rarest of rare sights: Sanctuary on location and at night. You can check out the little that we could give away below.

We've been talking about indie flick The Devil's Mile for a while now around these parts, and some good news has come our way for those looking forward to it. Read on for all the details as well as the very first still!
From the Press Release
Filming has completed on The Devil’s Mile, the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Joseph O’Brien (Robocop: Prime Directives), who most recently collaborated with filmmaker and Rue Morgue founder Rodrigo Gudino on the screenplay for the Gudino-directed remake of Cutthroats Nine starring Mads Mikkelsen and Harvey Keitel.
“It’s been a wild ride,” says O’Brien of his first time in the director’s chair. “Guns, chases, vehicular manslaughter, demonically-resurrected murder victims, slashed throats and one seriously nasty mauling (the latter three courtesy of makeup FX maestro Allan Cooke). On top of all that we shot a vicious knock-down drag-out fight between...

Question: What does Metal Gear Solid's lead character Solid Snake have in common with Watchmen and the first two X-Men films? That's a real head scratcher, isn't it? The answer is David Hayter.
Not only does this renaissance man provide the distinctive voice for Solid Snake but he also wrote the screenplay for Watchmen and both X-Men films mentioned above. That alone is a pretty nice resume, considering the successes of the films and the fact that Hayter has voiced Solid Snake in about a dozen video games. However, Hayter also has a love of acting. And he'll get a chance to display his chops in the upcoming chiller The Devil's Mile.
Screenwriter Joseph O'Brien will be taking on the role of director for the film, helming his first feature. Maria Del Mar and Casey Hudecki co-star. Research has shown neither Del Mar or Hudecki have voiced any video game characters,...

Bloody Disgusting spotted a hilarious news report from Wtae in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During the police response to a fire at the George Washington Hotel in Washington, Pa, firefighters stumbled on a grisly murder scene. How bad was it? According to Wtae, "Washington Police Chief J.R. Blythe thought Sunday's discovery was the most grisly murder scene in his 35 years in law enforcement":
"I had no idea what was going on -- blood on the floor, the mattress, the pillows, piece of a scalp with hair still attached in the center of the bed," said Blythe.
Half a dozen investigators and eight hours of overtime later, the Washington Pd finally realized what they had found: an abandoned movie set for an upcoming straight-to-dvd film starring Corey Haim. The film, entitled "New Terminal City," had shot a bloody murder at the hotel then left the set standing in case they needed to return for reshoots.

“It was a difficult challenge I think at first, just because I had never done something like that,” actress Kiele Sanchez told Dread Central of her casting as ‘Stella Oleson’ last November during the principle photography of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days in Vancouver, Canada.
Bundled in a cold warehouse in Terminal City on the set of director Ben Ketai’s sequel to 2007’s hit 30 Days of Night (the sequel Dark Days bows direct-to-video from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on October 5), The Perfect Getaway actress was thoughtful regarding her assumption of the film’s lead character, as originally essayed by Melissa George, and spent time waxing on that as well as the other challenges inherent in portraying the character.
“I think that in the first graphic novel Stella starts off as so different (from the sequel) that it gave me a lot of freedom to sort of do it my own way,...

Austin-based filmmaker Bob Ray is bringing a little bit of Texas — and a couple of his films — on the road with him for a raucous summer blast across the American west, and parts of Canada. Look for the Down & Dirty Austin Film Tour that’s being co-sponsored by SXSW, the Alamo Drafthouse and the Austin Film Society, when it slams into your town.
The tour is mostly in support of Ray’s recently-completed third feature-length film, Total Badass, which he will be screening, but also look to see his other films Hell on Wheels, Rock Opera and his CrashToons animated series. Total Badass is about a Texas raconteur who struggles to survive his last six months of felony probation and a major financial crisis amongst his estranged family.

Los Angeles — Charlie David, star of the popular series Dante’s Cove and the recent feature Mulligans, is slated to star in the independent film Judas Kiss, the movie’s producers announced today.
David will play the role of Zachary Wells, a washed-up filmmaker who returns to his peculiar alma mater, where he meets his younger self and gets the chance to change his troubled past so he can avoid a disturbing future.
Judas Kiss is the first feature film from director J.T. Tepnapa, who has won many international
awards for his short films, including the multiple award-winning parody of 1950s teen health films, Masturbation: Putting the Fun Into Self-Loving, the comedy Drag Queen Heist and the drama about homeless youth, Begging for Change.
“I’m excited to work with such a multi-talented entertainer,” Tepnapa said.
“Charlie’s experience in front of and behind the camera will add so much to Judas Kiss’ production values.

Dread Central hit the set of Sony’s 30 Days of Night: Dark Days earlier this month - the film wraps principal photography today in Vancouver, Canada, under the watchful eye of co-scripter (with Steve Niles) and director Ben Ketai - and while there sat down with producer Jr Young (among others) to discuss the flick (cast interviews to come).
“This is a very edgy film,” Young, who previously produced The Messengers, told Dread while intently watching a scene being played out in video village – a scene which featured a rather hysterical and bloody actress (Katherine Isabelle) pleading for her life. “Ben knows this world. I think it comes natural to him.”

Honestly, the reason why I've gone through the first season of The Big Bang Theory is because an old friend of mine (who studies for a Major in Atmospheric Science and a Minor in Environment) recommended it to me. With that said, I got to admit that the show is likable despite a few plot holes.
Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Hofstadter), an experimental physicist, and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), a theoretical physicist, are two Caltech prodigies in their twenties. Besides, they share the same apartment. One day, Penny (Kaley Cuoco), an attractive blonde with showbiz ambition who works at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, moves in the apartment across the hall from Leonard's and Sheldon's apartment. Unlike Sheldon, who seriously lacks social skills, Leonard manages to develop a friendship between Penny and him. However, Leonard has a crush on Penny.

If you are a fan of Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, you probably know that some scenes of the series were filmed in and around the extensive forests of western British Columbia. What you may not realise, however, is that two of the show's stars - Tricia Helfer (Number Six) and Tahmoh Penikett ('Helo') - have lent their talents to a new indie docu-drama that is intended to raise awareness of issues associated with cutting down some of these forests.
The film, called The Green Chain, was written, directed and co-produced by Vancouver-born Mark Leiren-Young. His previous credits include scripts for episodes of the series The Collector, Blood Ties and Psi Factor. He has also written a book, 'Never Shoot a Stampede Queen', articles for 'Time Magazine', 'Maclean's' and 'The Utne Reader', and stage plays.
