Hey, do you remember "Poseidon"? The 2006 action pic from director Wolfgang Petersen is a remake of the 1972 disaster epic "The Poseidon Adventure," as well as an adaptation of Paul Gallico's 1969 "The Poseidon Adventure" novel. The story focuses on a cruise ship that gets hit by a tidal wave and flips upside down. The survivors have to then claw their way to the bottom of the ship, which is now the top. Lots of characters die horribly along the way. It's fun for the whole family!
The star-studded remake cast includes Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss, and the late, great Andre Braugher. Russell is probably the biggest name of the bunch, and the actor plays Robert Ramsey, a character who is both an ex-firefighter and the former Mayor of New York City. His history allows him to sort of take command of the situation, although he's really mostly concerned...

Fans of The Bachelor and 9-1-1 were given surprising information earlier this month when it was revealed that the 118 would be responding to an emergency at Bachelor Mansion.
The most recent Bachelor, Joey Graziadei, will attend the special event, adding to the immersion.
Series host Jesse Palmer was also spotted in a recent promo as one of Joey’s contestants takes unwell after getting out of the iconic limousines on opening night.
But where did the decision to make this crossover a reality come from?
Jennifer Love Hewitt, one of 9-1-1’s series regulars, pitched the crossover when ABC picked up the show the same day Fox canceled it.
“The whole crossover episode came about because Jennifer Love Hewitt called me after she went to one of the finales of The Bachelor,” co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear told Entertainment Weekly.

Joey Graziadei’s time handing out roses on The Bachelor may be over, but he won’t be leaving the Bachelor Mansion behind for long.
During the long-drawn-out full-night The Bachelor Season 28 finale event, ABC confirmed that the recently-teased crossover with 9-1-1 will air early next month.
That’s not all: We also got a first look at Graziadei outside the mansion.
If we take the short and sweet promo at face value, the episode seems to take place on the opening night of The Bachelor, during which one contestant has suffered a medical emergency.
Our best guess is that this contestant will have tried to do something eye-catching to get their attention and, potentially, the coveted first impression.
Sometimes, crossovers can fall flat, but Graziadei turns in a convincing performance in this short teaser as he wonders whether the mystery woman will be safe.

The Legend of Lake Hollow is the first feature from director Chris Hollo. If you’re into country music, his name may be familiar to you as the official photographer for The Grand Ole Opry, a position he’s held since 2000. However, that has little in common with this film which opens with Mark and Carson arriving at the lakeside cabin they’ve rented. They’re barely in the door when they start checking out pictures from the property’s trail cams, and see something with a wicked set of claws.
Before they can act on that, Mark’s brother Dan arrives with his fiancé Shay and her friend Laurie. It’s not long before they’re hearing strange noises from the woods and finding more odd pictures captured by the trail cams.

With Part 1 of its freshman finale, NCIS: Sydney uncorked quite the callback, by revealing that the “pregnant” woman who nearly got Mackey, Evie, Blue and dozens of others suffocated to death in an old bunker was in fact the blonde spy who eluded capture at the end of the series’ pilot.
Yet while it might seem as if Special Agent Mackey (Olivia Swann), Sergeant Jim “Jd” Dempsey (Todd Lasance) et al now have the upper hand, the abduction of Jd’s son Jack, in Part 2 of the finale (airing Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS), will thoroughly and harrowingly complicate matters.

Andre Braugher, who starred in the laugh-out-loud television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life on the Street, passed away on Monday. He was 61.
Braugher’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the news of his passing to Variety.
Andre Braugher shined as Captain Raymond Holt on the comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. By far, my favorite character in the series, Braugher’s performance as the stoic and sinisterly sassy Captain Holt is the stuff of legend. Not typically known for his comedic chops before landing the role of Captain Holt, Braugher left his comfort zone in the rearview to surprise everyone with an unforgettable and consistently hilarious performance.

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

The first trailer for “The Flash” has finally arrived after much anticipation and shows Erza Miller’s Barry Allen coming face to face with himself in an alternate timeline.
Watch the trailer here:
DC Studios Chief James Gunn heralded the film and recently said, “I will say here that ‘Flash’ is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
This sentiment jibes with consistently strong word of mouth out of multiple test screenings for the long-in-the-works feature, which was directed by Andy Muschietti.
Warner Bros. Discovery premiered the trailer during Super Bowl Lvii, and the studio last appeared at the Super Bowl back in 2006 when promo spots for “16 Blocks,” “V for Vendetta” and “Poseidon” aired throughout the big game.

Among all of the themes that could be applied to a board game – or indeed any game or interactive subject – I think that Ancient Greek Mythology might well be my favourite. Everything about this setting fascinates me, from the Gods and monsters to the heroes and their fantastic stories.
Cyclades is a relatively old game now, having first been released in 2009, but a number of expansion packs have extended its lifespan and kept it relevant. Recently, I’ve been playing the base game of Cyclades along with its Hades expansion, and already I’ve seen enough to want to try Monuments and Titans – the other two large expansions.
Cyclades takes the Ancient Greek theme and invests in it wholeheartedly. Each player controls a generic faction comprising of a handful of plastic hoplites, a few ships and a player board behind which they will hide their resources. The board – which varies...

When Wolfgang Petersen burst onto the scene with his WWII submarine masterpiece "Das Boot," Hollywood came calling. Any director who could pin audiences to their seats for two-and-a-half hours with a film that rarely leaves the interior of a U-boat surely had the skills to enthrall viewers with a mainstream blockbuster. While Petersen proved more than reliable with smashes like "In the Line of Fire," "Outbreak," "Air Force One," and "The Perfect Storm," he occasionally found himself attached to ambitious projects that, for one reason or another, failed to launch or launched without him at the helm.
Petersen, who died on August 12, 2022, at the age of 81, left behind a litany of what-ifs. He was in the mix on several tantalizing projects that could've changed the complexion of superhero and YA filmmaking; there's an alternate universe in which Petersen revived the DC universe with a Batman and Superman mash-up in the early 2000s.

Wolfgang Petersen, an Academy Award-nominated director that made several Hollywood classics, has died. Deadline first reported the news, saying the filmmaker passed away on August 12 after a long bout with pancreatic cancer at the age of 81.
Petersen was well known throughout the filmmaking industry for his blockbuster features, which were usually grand in scope and full of ambition. Among the most successful of these was "Das Boot," an adaptation of the 1973 novel of the same name by Lothar-Günther Buchheim. It told the story of a group of German submarine sailors during World War II, some of them clashing with each other over their different ideologies, as they navigated the treacherous seas during the Battle of the Atlantic. It received six Oscar nominations, one of which was for Best Director for Petersen. But that was just one of his big screen accomplishments.

Wolfgang Petersen, the Oscar-nominated director of throwback epics like “Das Boot” and “The Perfect Storm,” has died at the age of 81. Deadline first reported the news of his passing.
In addition to the WWII submarine warfare film that earned six Academy Award nominations including Best Director, Petersen also directed 1984’s beloved family favorite “The NeverEnding Story,” “Enemy Mine” (1985), Clint Eastwood political thriller “In the Line of Fire” (1993), pandemic disaster movie “Outbreak” (1995), Harrison Ford presidential hijacking thriller “Air Force One” (1997), and swords-and-sandals tentpole “Troy” (2004).
Petersen was born in Germany in 1941, and it was in Hamburg in the 1960s that he started directing plays before moving into TV movies for German television, eventually gaining notices for his 1974 psychological thriller debut “One or the Other of Us.” But Petersen reached an international audience with the 1982 release of “Das Boot,” a nearly three-hour German-language underwater film about the men serving aboard German WWII U-boats.

To be honest, Survivor Jenga sounds like a lot of fun. What doesn’t sound like a lot of fun? Getting torrentially downpoured on by the Fijian version of Poseidon.
The weather took a brutal turn on Wednesday’s episode of Survivor, but despite the group’s wrinkled skin and shaking, shivering bodies, the game never quits. One major player barreled straight toward a brutal blindside, while Omar once again proved himself to be a worthy potential winner, should he wind up in the Final 3. Let’s break it all down.

With movie theaters fully back up and running, HBO Max no longer has any major film releases to point to with its list of new releases for May 2022. That’s alright though as the streamer is leaning into the HBO side of its branding to offer up some fun TV releases.
The biggest HBO Max original this month is undoubtedly the return of Hacks on May 12. The first season of this comedy starred Jean Smart as a venerated Vegas comedy and Hannah Einbinder as her new millennial assistant. The first batch of episodes was excellent and even won an Emmy or two for its troubles and now season 2 will look to keep up the good vibes.
Premiering on May 15, is The Time Traveler’s Wife. This series adaptation of the 2003 novel (which in turn became a a 2009 movie) keeps up with two star-crossed lovers who can never quite make the timing work…...

The Good Fight is adding another award-winning star to its Season 6 cast.
Paramount+ announced this week that André Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will join the upcoming sixth season of the critically acclaimed drama.
What's more, the series is now set to return in the summer.
Braugher will star as Ri'Chard Lane, a showman lawyer and rainmaker who is forced on Liz as a new name partner.
A force of nature, Ri'Chard is a wild mix of brilliance, geniality, religion and joyful hedonism.
In short, he's a handful.
"Our dream of an actor is always someone who can mix comedy and drama equally, and André Braugher is exactly that," said Robert and Michelle King, series co-creators, showrunners and executive producers.
"His work on 'Men of a Certain Age,' 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'Homicide' has been amazing and funny. We're ecstatic that he finally has time in his schedule to come play.

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we usually talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they produced in between. Today we give you a themed episode!
As 2022 approaches, we dive deep into New Years-set movies through the years. We start with Michael Curtiz’s influential Mystery of the Wax Museum, move over to the modern cult classic 200 Cigarettes, and finish with the 2006 remake/flop Poseidon.
This is an eclectic mix! Curtiz is one of our great filmmakers and it’s fascinating his Wax Museum, which came before his stone-cold classics Captain Blood, Casablanca, and The Adventures of Robin Hood. And 200 Cigarettes features perhaps the most specific, wonderful 1999-represented cast ever. Finally, Poseidon is certainly a film that was made and then released into theaters.
We discuss the holiday itself and why exactly it is something we celebrate,...

Apple TV+ has won a bidding war for "Sugar," a new series starring Colin Farrell. Netflix was also vying for the series, which Deadline bills as a genre-bender and describes as "an LA-set contemporary take on the private detective story."
Beyond that, not much is known of the plot at this point, but "Sugar" hails from creator Mark Protosevich, who wrote "The Cell," "Poseidon," and Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake, and who co-wrote "I Am Legend." He also received a story credit on "Thor," and IMDb still has him attached to an adaptation of the comic "Freakshow." However, that project was first announced over a decade ago and...

Writing on Crooked Marquee's web site, Roxana Hadadi pays tribute to the 1996 disaster film "Twister", which became a blockbuster despite the lack of big name boxoffice stars. The film appealed to those of us who enjoyed the spate of mega-budget disaster flicks of the 1970s- and "Twister" fully capitalized on the new generation of exciting special effects technology. MGM’s glamour factory hit heights of grandeur with this nostalgic disaster spectacle, which retains its power even as its pious sentimentality runs amuck. We don’t believe the characters but we believe the Stars: Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald and Spencer Tracy succeed with sheer personality. Best of all are the sensational special effects featuring the highly cinematic earthquake montage by Slavko Vorkapich and John Hoffman.
