Glenn Frey and David Bowie will be missed by many generations for a very long time, but right now, few people are missing an opportunity to eulogize the two legendary rockers via digital music purchases. As of Thursday afternoon, Bowie’s final album “Blackstar,” which was released on Jan. 8, is sitting at No. 2 on Amazon and No. 6 on iTunes. The British music legend is only behind Adele on Amazon, who is still sitting atop the iTunes chart. As expected, the late British singer’s 27th album has topped the Billboard 200 chart for the week ending on Jan. 14. Nearly 50 years after his first debut, and a week after his death, David Bowie has finally gotten a No. 1 album. Billboard reports that the rock star's last album, Blackstar, has debuted at No. 1 on its Billboard 200 chart, ending Adele's seven-week run at the top with 25. According to Billboard's metrics, Blackstar earned 181,000 equivalent album units, 174,000 of which were pure album sales (Billboard now counts streaming metrics in the total count). This was more than double Bowie's last sales high: 85,000 albums in the first week with the 2013 release of The Next Day. Additionally, nine other Bowie albums entered the Billboard 200, and two made it to the top 40: Best of Bowie landed at No. 4 and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars at No. 21. The success of Blackstar and Best of Bowie puts the star in the rare...

As David Bowie's Blackstar Album Sales Soar, Late Legend is Also Remembered as a Financial Innovator
David Bowie had a long and legendary career, but since his passing on Monday, his music is selling better than ever. The late rocker's death has pushed sales of his new album Blackstar to the No. 1 spot on iTunes and it's also expected to become the first No. 1 album of his career in the U.S. on the Billboard chart. And it's not just the new stuff fans are clamoring for. They can't get enough of his back catalog either. In addition to Blackstar, which was released on Jan. 8, just two days before Bowie's death, three other Bowie albums occupy the top 10 list on iTunes.

So I had written this week’s column about Marvel’s next big event, Civil War II, and how they’re going to be killing off a major character. I wrote about how it’s unoriginal, uninspiring, and how I wish we could do better. I was even planning on titling it “Civil Disobedience.” Really clever stuff. Then I woke up at 5:30am on Monday, January 11th to news that I didn’t think I’d hear for many, many years to come: David Bowie has passed away. What I had written my column about no longer mattered to me, and I started writing a new one. This one. About how important David Bowie is to a great many people, including myself. I’m just one of those great many people. When I a kid, David Bowie wasn’t terribly important to me. I was aware of him. I...

Apparition has unveiled a brand new poster for their upcoming “The Runaways” film, starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.
“The Runaways” synopsis: Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in this music-fueled story of the ground-breaking, all girl, teenage rock band of the 1970s: The Runaways. The film follows two friends, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. Joan and Cherie fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley, played by Michael Shannon, who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself—and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.
