After his untimely death in 2016 due to pancreatic cancer, Alan Rickman’s several personal effects went for auction. The most famous among them were his personal diaries and letters, which contained some unfiltered opinions about everything related to his movies, including Harry Potter. Interestingly, it was revealed in the letters that Rickman was often frustrated with the movies for one reason or the other.

It’s hard for anyone to hate Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. But the movies featuring the actor would be much different if Harry Potter director, Chris Columbus, had said yes to helm the trilogy. However, Columbus had a bigger fish to fry, and we can’t blame him for passing on Spider-Man.

Tom Felton has become an iconic figure through his work in the Harry Potter franchise. Playing a character that basically created the morally gray bad boy trope, his performance as Draco Malfoy is still influential. Delivering an excellent, yet incomplete arc, the part that he played in the eight films was significant, to say the least.
Felton in his iconic role of Draco Malfoy
Recently, the actor was asked about his favorite movie, and many would expect the answer to be the series he starred in for a huge chunk of his life. Unfortunately for fans, his answers were quite different. However, it did not stray too far away from his childhood and his iconic role.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a parody that was done right. You don’t even have to go past the first 10 minutes of the anime to know that it is a Harry Potter rip-off. But its adorable (dumb) protagonist makes it stand out from any other parody or comedy series.
Honestly, how many series have you watched that have visibly taken so many elements from a famous franchise and still managed to become famous? From the muscle-headed Mash to his equally silly friends, the anime does not miss a single beat to make you laugh.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into some of the major similarities between Mashle and Harry Potter that stare you in the face.

Of all the roles Tom Felton has taken on to date, his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter saga will continue to be remembered as one of his best performances ever. But despite such a remarkable embodiment of the character that had fans loving him in that respective role, the 36-year-old actor has some serious regrets related to the same nonetheless.
Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy.
To be more precise, there is one scene from The Boy Who Lived’s saga that could have delivered the true respect that his character deserved. However, because of a series of unfortunate events for the young Malfoy, that scene never managed to make it to the final cut for the film and eventually transformed into one of Felton’s biggest regrets related to Potter’s Wizarding World.

Spiders can be scary, but it’s our reaction to them that’s traumatic.
The jolt of panic you feel when a tickle just hits wrong is a hard-wired evolutionary response that’s been explored in horror for decades. Humans developed the “Holy shit, get it off me!” feeling as a protection against the pests we can’t always see. And while hobbyists claim arachnids are misunderstood — playing a critical role opposite insects — the bone-deep distaste we have for spiders has cast as antagonists since the dawn of film. From “Tarantula!” and “Arachnophobia” to “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” if something is on eight legs and in a movie, you know what comes next.

Harry Potter alum Jessie Cave is sharing her thoughts on her former co-star Miriam Margolyes’ comments that people who are still superfans of the franchise “should be over that by now.”
Cave, who played Lavender Brown in three films based on J.K. Rowling’s book saga, was asked about Margolyes’ statements during a recent appearance at Dream It Con. She starred in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, parts one and two.
“It’s such a shame that that happened,” she said. “You know how she is — she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope.”

Jessie Cave has shared her thoughts after Harry Potter co-star Miriam Margolyes divided opinions after saying adult fans of the Jk Rowling book saga-based films worried her.
Cave appeared at Dream it Con and was asked about Margolyes’ comments about fans, who are now adults, needing to outgrow the franchise.
“It’s such a shame that that happened,” she said. “You know how she is — she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope.
She then added, “I really don’t like that she said that.”
Cave played the role of Lavender Brown in three films, starting with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009 and followed by the last two films, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Margolyes caused uproar among Harry Potter fans when she appeared on a New Zealand show dissing adult fans of the fantasy saga.

For all it’s worth, My Hero Academia and Harry Potter are vastly different. Of course, some themes may overlap, but the setting, worldbuilding, and primary characters couldn’t be more distinct. And yet, the internet has found a way to bridge the gap between the two franchises—in one complaint directed specifically at Kohei Horikoshi’s acclaimed superhero Shōnen manga series.

Even decades after the release of the last Harry Potter movie, there stands a universal truth about the franchise – the books are always better than the films. Now, a major reason behind this partiality is because the films, despite being magical in their own way, failed to live up to the Potterheads’ expectations.

Although she acknowledged that the fantasy film series is “wonderful” and that she’s “very grateful to it,...

Maureen “Mo” Henry, the veteran negative cutter and a giant in the postproduction community, died Sunday of complications from liver failure in Los Angeles, her son, Logan, told The Hollywood Reporter. She was 67.

The first book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" ("Sorcerer's Stone" here in the States) was first published in June of 1997. It was written by author J.K. Rowling, long before she had been driven mad by an infuriating streak of unabashed transphobia that she insists on adhering to. Thanks to years of bigoted screaming, Rowling's legacy has been wholly tainted, and it's hard to read her lighthearted children's fantasy books without thinking of her poisonous worldview. If one checks out the Harry Potter books from the library, however, one can still enjoy the adventures and complex Wizarding World of Harry Potter without giving Rowling another dime.
Before her mind snapped open in public, however, the Harry Potter books — and their subsequent movie adaptations — were widely beloved. The title character was an impoverished 11-year-old who was forced to live in a closet with his abusive aunt and uncle.

Before the “Harry Potter” films, there were J.K. Rowling’s books. The first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” was published in 1997. Nearly 26 years later, eleven films, one reunion special and a Universal experience dedicated to the magical Wizarding World have grown out of Rowling’s literary staple in childhood fiction.

“Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe honored his late co-star Michael Gambon in an emotional statement in which he called Gambon “one of the most brilliant, effortless actors I’ve ever had the privilege of working with.” Gambon died Thursday at 82 years old.
“With the loss of Michael Gambon the world just became considerably less fun,” Radcliffe wrote in a statement to Variety. “Michael Gambon was one of the most brilliant, effortless actors I’ve ever had the privilege of working with, but despite his immense talent, the thing I will remember most about him is how much fun he had doing his job. He was silly, irreverent and hilarious. He loved his job, but never seemed defined by it. When actor Michael Gambon passed away on September 28, he was immediately remembered by colleagues and fans around the world for his work portraying Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” films — but he’s not the only one.
Gambon famously took over the part of Dumbledore between “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” when original actor Richard Harris passed away and was eulogized for this most recent and beloved performance. Recasting such a major role in a film or TV franchise is fairly unprecedented; it’s rare that a studio would choose this over any other option unless there was no choice. Gambon’s take on the role was never meant to imitate Harris, but rather to find his own take on the character, and in the six films that followed, he did just that.

Before we knew about the beliefs of author J.K. Rowling, the world fell in love with the Harry Potter books. Then we got to see them on the big screen with the eight-film series. We were introduced to actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, and we got to see the magical school of our childhood dreams come to life.
The first two films about the boy wizard -- "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" -- were directed by Chris Columbus, who had no small amount of experience making movies that kids love. This generation of filmgoers mostly probably thinks of Irish actor-director Kenneth Branagh as Agatha Christie’s mustachioed detective Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Death on the Nile (2022) and the upcoming A Haunting in Venice.
But there is so much more to Branagh’s career. As a director, he’s dabbled in multiple genres, including fantasy, action, science fiction, thriller, comedy and superhero.
Branaghs career as an actor has been equally as diverse. He’s acted in legal thrillers, Westerns, romantic thrillers, animation, fantasy pics and dramedies.
And then there’s Shakespeare. There’s always Shakespeare. Branagh has a self-professed love of the Bard. He’s acted in and directed...

Both the 2001 film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and the 2002 sequel "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" starred the legendary Richard Harris as Professor Albus Dumbledore, the elderly wizard principal of a secret boarding school for child wizards and witches. The school, called Hogwarts, was a vast and mysterious place, full of secret passages, living paintings, shifting staircases, and hidden rooms that contain ineffable magical secrets. The two films, both directed by Chris Columbus, are the only two in the series to possess a sense of glittering wonderment. As the title character (played by Daniel Radcliffe) explored the world of wizards and witches, he was constantly confronting unusual and astonishing things that left him speechless.
Overseeing Harry's wonderment was Dumbledore, depicted in the first two movies as kind, soft-spoken, and grandfatherly. He understood that dangers lurked around every corner, but bothered to understand the inner lives of the...

Film adaptations of popular novels are a Hollywood tradition — especially when the novel is part of a series, making its financial prospects even more lucrative. So, where's the movie adaptation of "Ready Player Two"?
Steven Spielberg directed "Ready Player One," the 2018 film version of the 2011 novel of the same name by Ernest Cline. The movie raked in a worldwide box office total of nearly $600 million and earned decent Rotten Tomatoes scores. Such numbers seemed more than enough to move forward with follow-up installments based on sequel novels covering earlier eras. "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," its series' sophomore outing, debuted in theaters just one year after the first film. The same was true for the film sequels to "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games." More than five years after "Ready Player One" debuted in theaters, Wade Watts and his fellow High Five friends haven't returned to cineplexes, despite the existence of a sequel novel,...

When a movie comes out and makes a billion dollars, you can rest assured it’s going to get a sequel. Such was the case with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (check out our Wtf episode on it). But, typically it takes years for a sequel to come out, but in this case, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was ready to come out just one year later, almost to the day! It turns out Warner Bros was so enthusiastic about how the first Harry Potter film would be received that the sequel was already in the works, allowing them to start shooting the sequel only three days after the first film came out. Unlike other big franchises, such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the films were not shot at the same time, which made the undertaking of getting a sequel in theatres within a year...

The Harry Potter franchise is a global phenomenon that has persisted since the final book was released and after its last movie hit theaters. Despite this, it thrives in multiple forms, including theme parks (Universal Studios Butterbeer anyone?), freeform marathons, video games, and re-readable novels.

Since the beginning of the Harry Potter franchise, fans have always wanted more. From the J.K. Rowling books came the movies, the Wizarding World theme park at Universal, Pottermore, and the Fantastic Beasts films. But one thing fans haven’t received? A long-awaited Mauraders prequel. Years ago, a Marvel actor was fan-cast as Harry’s dad, James Potter. But he’s since aged out of the role.
‘Harry Potter’ fans have wanted a Marauders prequel for years
I am open to any and all #HarryPotter content but what I really Want is a #Marauders prequel … let me see James, Sirius, Remus and Peter in school, younger #dumbledore, introduce some new characters, etc.

Since the beginning of the series, Harry Potter fans have subsisted on tidbits from the Marauders’ Era, which follows James Potter (Harry’s father), Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black throughout their time at Hogwarts in the 1970s.

Steven Spielberg is seemingly crediting Tom Cruise for “saving Hollywood” with the theatrical release of Top Gun: Maverick.
The Fabelmans director caught up with Cruise at the Oscar nominees luncheon and their encounter was caught in a video that has now gone viral. Spielberg congratulated Cruise on hitting the “milestone” last year by bringing back audiences to the theaters.
“You saved Hollywood’s a**,” Spielberg is seemingly heard saying in the video first shared by Oscar nominee Kartiki Gonsalves, director of the documentary short film The Elephant Whisperers. “And, you might have saved theatrical distribution. Seriously. ‘Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.”
Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, was released in May 2022 and has grossed more than 1.48 billion globally.

Steven Spielberg was more focused on raising his family than helming children’s films in the early 2000s.
The Oscar winner revealed that he turned down directing the “Harry Potter” franchise to be with his own kids.
“There were several films I chose not to make,” Spielberg said while in conversation with “Rrr” director S.S. Rajamouli in India (via Insider). “They offered me ‘Harry Potter’ and I chose to turn down the first ‘Harry Potter’ to basically spend the next year and a half with my family, my young kids growing up.”
The “Fabelmans” writer-director continued, “So, I sacrificed a great franchise — which today looking back I’m very happy to have done — to be with my family. The choice I had to make in taking a job that would move me to another country for four of five months where I wouldn’t see my family every day.”

British actor Warwick Davis has been part of some of the biggest fantasy franchises in motion picture history. He has been a part of the "Star Wars" films, the "Leprechaun" films, and most importantly, he has played three characters throughout the "Harry Potter" franchise.
Davis initially portrayed a Gringotts bank employee that gave Hagrid access to the vault containing the sorcerer's stone. He later represented two iterations of the Hogwarts charms instructor, Professor Flitwick. And then there's the critical role of Griphook, a Gringotts goblin (with not necessarily good intentions) who helps Harry, Ron, and Hermione to break into the wizard bank to steal a Horcrux. Of all three roles, one more fascinating than the other, Davis most enjoyed playing Professor Flitwick — a part the actor believes he was destined to play.
