Many famous artists such as Adele, Sam Smith, and Paul McCartney made tunes for 007 movies. When Madonna wrote her James Bond theme song, she wanted to bring the Cold War spy into the modern era with a certain genre of music. The tune is a touch on the divisive side. Here’s why it deserves a lot more love than it gets.
Madonna wanted to make James Bond ‘get techno’
Madonna wrote and performed the titular song from the James Bond thriller Die Another Day. During a 2002 interview with CNN, Madonna was asked if she felt that the people behind James Bond expected her to accept their offer to write a 007 theme song. “Well, no, I hemmed and hawed about it for a while because just for that reason though,” the “La Isla Bonita” singer said. “Everybody wants to do the theme song of a James Bond movie,...

Halle Berry scored one of her most memorable roles with the 2002 feature Monster’s Ball. She knew the Oscar-winning role would be something special as soon as she read the script. But when she saw herself in the movie, even Berry was unprepared with how unfamiliar she’d look.

Berry agreed that the Marc Foster-directed movie left her exposed in a way she never was before, both literally and figuratively. Berry had to play a very complicated and sometimes unlikable character in Monster’s Ball. The role required her to channel real emotions to truly embody the part.
“Well, it was that kind of movie,” Berry once told BBC. “It was about really servicing those characters and making them as flawed and as complicated as a human being is. Marc...

What do you think about when we say the word “Peaky Blinders”. A shot of Cillian Murphy smoking his cigarette and pouring whiskey into a glass on the table. Well, the vibe is very similar to that of James Bond, if Bond was in the year 1919.

This is exactly what people want to see when a new James Bond film is announced. Not the year 1919, but fans are seemingly going crazy about a rumor that Cillian Murphy is the next choice for James Bond in the upcoming film. Although there might be truth to that rumor (or not), an actor who previously portrayed the role of James Bond added fuel to the fire by supporting the it.

Hollywood has got more demand for knowledge-intensive, “white collar” occupations than it did just 10 years ago amid a drop in the number of manual, “blue collar” jobs in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, according to a new study released Thursday
Per the Otis College Report on the Creative Economy, “‘Die Another Day’ – Hollywood Transformed in the Streaming Era,” “white collar” knowledge workers are defined as those “primarily paid for generating ideas, performing analyses or creating artistic content,” while “blue collar” manual workers have occupations across the entertainment industry in areas including transportation, cleaning and grounds keeping, and construction.
The study found that creatives and managers, who fall into the knowledge worker category, accounted for 59% of total jobs in Greater Entertainment in 2013, which had grown to 66% in 2022. Creatives accounted for 44% of all entertainment workers in 2013, up to 49% by 2022, while management jumped from 14% to 17% of all jobs. Over that period, “specialists...

After the catastrophe of Die Another Day, the James Bond franchise desperately needed a fresh start. What made the failure of the Pierce Brosnan film so fascinating was how by the book it was. It followed every single thing that worked in the franchise and created a compilation film. Since this approach did not work, the creators had to get quite creative when they were making Casino Royale.
Daniel Craig in Casino Royale [Credit: Sony Pictures]There were many approaches taken during the making of the movie, and its untraditionality made it the most traditional Bond film to come out in years. The film was a masterpiece in every way, and the biggest reason for this was its ability to take risks. A major difference in the movie was its focus on characters and intentions rather than appeal and audience satisfaction.

Since the character’s inception on the big screen, Bond girls were a staple in most James Bond adaptations, until Casino Royale, as Daniel Craig refrained from using this term. But before Craig took the 007 gig and became the definitive modern James Bond, we had Pierce Brosnan as the charming British spy.
But unlike most Bond girls during the ’60s and ’70s, who were limited to being eye candy with ridiculous names, in Brosnan’s films, they defied those stereotypes. This was apparent in the character of Jinx Johnson, played by Halle Berry, who was even considered for her own spin-off film.

The role of James Bond has played an instrumental part in Pierce Brosnan’s career. Despite succeeding some of the greatest Bond actors like the late Sean Connery and Roger Moore, Bosnan made a name as the character. However, his films could not attract the same amount of love as they had major problems and were widely criticized by fans and critics.

Eponymous hero tackles a pooch-pinching operation by getting captured in this old-fashioned production
In some ways, the Lassie films are like the canine answer to the James Bond series. Both have literary antecedents, both have been big screen successes for MGM, and the basic formula remains essentially the same: a hero saves the day. The equivalent of Sean Connery is probably Pal, the rough collie dog who portrayed Lassie in seven feature films in the 1940s and 1950s. In Lassie: A New Adventure, Lassie is played by Bandit, who brings what is needed to the role, in a slick, handsome, functional way that suggests the Lassie franchise is perhaps in its Pierce Brosnan era, though unfortunately more Die Another Day doldrums than GoldenEye high point.
It bears mentioning at this point that the film is more properly titled Lassie – Ein Neues Abenteuer; this is a German production which has...

Halle Berry became a big name after a string of supporting roles in the 90s with the superhero film X-Men in 2000. Berry played the iconic X-Men character Storm and it is arguably her most popular role. However, she would also be remembered for playing one of the most iconic Bond girls in 2002’s Die Another Day.
Halle Berry played Storm in multiple X-Men films
Berry starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film, and her role as Jinx was different from others in the past as she helped move the plot instead of being reduced to a damsel in distress. However, Berry faced an embarrassing moment during an intimate scene with Brosnan in the film.

Berry etched herself in Bond mythology by playing the Bond girl Jinx in Die Another Day. She wasn’t in the film just to be a love interest, however, and found herself being just as physical as Brosnan’s Bond. Although she held her own on-screen, behind the scenes there were two moments that didn’t go the way she might’ve wanted. In one take, Brosnan and Berry are making out with each other. But Berry famously began to choke during the sequence.

Elton John has publicly aired his problems with a number of other celebrities, but he has made his support of Lady Gaga clear. When Madonna, with whom John has feuded for years, spoke poorly of Gaga, he stepped in to defend her. Here’s why he felt he needed to speak in support of the star.

In 2012, Madonna described Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” as “reductive.” This came as a blow to the younger artist, who had long admired Madonna. According to John, Madonna’s comment strengthened his dislike of her.

Not long ago, former James Bond actor George Lazenby, who has had the opportunity to star in a sole outing as the agent in the now-appreciated On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, threw his support behind the all-but-confirmed Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the role. Lazenby was reportedly saying to TMZ that Taylor-Johnson would be able to “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.” However, he also thinks the reason for the delay in any kind of announcement is because “when he auditioned for the part back in the 1960s, he went through a bunch of different tests and auditions before he won the role.” Though, he still thinks Taylor-Johnson would make a great Bond “as long as they do the character justice.” His advice for the young lad would be “to be true to himself and reinvent the role to fit him.”

Murphy. Cillian Murphy.
So says former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan about who should take over the role of 007.
Well, not so fast, Murphy responded last night at the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles. “I think I’m a bit old for that,” the 47-year-old Oppenheimer star told reporters while walking the red carpet at the event hosted by the The US-Ireland Alliance.
The casting idea was broached by Brosnan, who played Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002). In an interview with the BBC at the event – the actor was being honored along with Molly Shannon and visual-effects supervisor Richie Baneham – Brosnan said he thought “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond.”
Brosnan’s stint as Bond was followed, from 2006 to 2021, by Daniel Craig in the role.
The awards event was held at the Santa Monica offices of Bad Robot Productions.

Dark Winds and Blood Quantum actor Kiowa Gordon and Sera-Lys McArthur (Café Daughter, Outlander) have joined the cast of Many Wounds, a contemporary re-imagining of Lee Tamahori’s ground-breaking 1994 Maori film Once Were Warriors, set among indigenous communities in Canada.
Skye Pelletier (Prey) stars in Many Wounds as Mashka, a young teenager on the cusp of being swallowed up by a colonial system meant to further the goals of assimilation who becomes a warrior to protect his family.

The International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. explores the legacy of global espionage, making its history legible and compelling to a contemporary audience. So, it’s fitting that its latest exhibit displays a dozen-and-a-half vehicles associated with the person who may be, oxymorons aside, the world’s best-known fictitious super-spy.
This show, “Bond In Motion,” opens March 1 and features iconic cars from 007’s six decades. These include the self-cloaking Aston Martin Vanquish from Die Another Day, the remote-controlled BMW 750iL from Tomorrow Never Dies, the surface-to-air missile-firing BMW Z8 from The World is Not Enough, and, perhaps the world’s most famous car, the machine gun–concealing, oil slick–emitting, license plate–rotating, seat-ejecting Aston Martin DB5 used in Goldfinger.
But it also includes lesser-known Bond vehicles, like a snowmobile from Die Another Day, a three-wheeled, motorcycle-based Tuk-Tuk from Octopussy, a hang-glider from Moonraker, and a submarine from Diamonds are Forever,...

In the 95 years that they’ve been handing out Academy Awards, just 10 African-American actresses have won dating back to Hattie McDaniel’s famed supporting actress triumph for “Gone with the Wind” in 1940. Nine of those wins have come in Best Supporting Actress, with Halle Berry being the lone victor in Best Lead Actress for “Monster’s Ball” in 2002. Berry has expressed disappointment that no other Black winner has followed in her footsteps over the past two decades. But the truth is that while it was 51 years between McDaniel’s win and the second for Whoopi Goldberg in “Ghost” in 1991, things have improved significantly over the past few decades for African American actresses and actors in terms of winning at the Oscars in the supporting categories in particular.
This year, there are five opportunities for Black performers to take home an acting trophy spread across three categories: Colman Domingo (“Rustin”) and Jeffrey Wright...

Even the most die-hard 007 fans know that James Bond movies don’t always hit. There’s the yellow face of You Only Live Twice, the pigeon double-take in Moonraker, the surfing in Die Another Day. But never has the franchise done worse than when a certain Louisiana police officer bumbles into the otherwise solid Live and Let Die.
Yes, I’m talking about Sheriff J.W. Pepper, a loudmouth distraction who sort of makes sense in the American-set Live and Let Die, but then he somehow also shows up in Thailand to further drag down The Man With the Golden Gun.
Modern viewers meeting the character for the first time today will likely be confused by Pepper’s shtick. But to the viewers of the early 1970s, Pepper not only hit as a funny joke, but he was very much in line with Bond’s history of pop culture Johnny-come-latelyisms.

Forget all about Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Rafe Spall and co. That lot are yesterday’s chip paper. The stars of the 2011 One Day film have been superseded by this new bunch, now bringing David Nicholls’ hit 2009 romance novel to life for a new 14-episodes Netflix series. Adapted by Wild Rose and Three Girls screenwriter Nicole Taylor, One Day is a bittersweet love story set across two decades. It’s the story of Emma and Dexter, whose first night together at their university graduation sparks almost two decades of will-they-won’t-they romance.

Netflix has scrapped the release of Halle Berry's sci-fi film 'The Mothership'.The movie had finished filming back in 2021 but was unable to be completed after a number of delays in post-production, leading the streaming giant to axe the picture altogether.According to The InSneider, the film still required plenty of reshoots and one of the children in the flick had aged significantly since filming had first wrapped.'The Mothership' is the latest Hollywood film not to be released even though filming had finished after Warner Bros. axed three movies – 'Coyote vs. Acme', 'Scoob! Holiday Haunt' and the DC adventure 'Batgirl' – for financial reasons in recent years. The plot follows Sara Morse (Berry) and takes place a year after her husband's mysterious disappearance from their rural farm. When Sara and her children find an extraterrestrial object underneath their home, they hope that it...

James Bond movie Die Another Day used CG for a key effect in the movie – and director Lee Tamahori has been reflecting on it.
Die Another Day, released in 2002, was the 20th James Bond film, the final outing in the tuxedo for Pierce Brosnan, and a massive hit at the time. A rare 007 outing directed by a non-British filmmaker, Lee Tamahori, its opening in particular strongly hinted at the darker direction that James Bond would take in the years ahead.
But also, the movie is known for some of its less realistic-feeling moments. There’s the invisible car of course, which is explained in the film and has its basis in actual technology, but still feels daft. And then there’s the moment where Bond goes very CG.
Lee Tamahori joined the SpyHards podcast just before Christmas, and I’ve just caught up with the episode now. It’s a really interesting chat too,...

For as long as there has been James Bond, there has been the James Bond "girl." And for as long as there has been the James Bond "girl," there have been people rightfully noting that this descriptor is a bit demeaning. After all, these character are women and should be treated accordingly.
And the James Bond "woman" has run the gamut over the years. People have rightfully called out the franchise over the decades for its often shallow, childish sexism, teaming up Agent 007 with bimbos bearing ridiculous names. The laziest films in the series reduce the female co-stars to shallow eye candy, existing to be impressed by Bond and to be rescued in the climax. But we can't ignore the movies that get it right. The James Bond franchise revolutionized action cinema in the 1960s when it started with 1962’s Dr. No and stands to this day as one of the longest-running film series in history. From almost the very beginning, Bond movies strive to draw in their audiences with high-octane prologues that run before lush and stylishly rendered title sequences. These pre-title action scenes not only set the tone for the movie right out the gate but, in several instances, are the best sequences within their respective films.
This pre-title sequence tradition began with the franchise’s second movie, 1963’s From Russia with Love. Believe it or not, Dr. No does not actually contain a pre-title action scene and instead dives headfirst into its opening titles. These prologues highlight the classic elements of a spy who always served Her Majesty’s Secret Service faithfully. They also showcase how each of the actors playing Bond...

When Pierce Brosnan Called The Steamy Scenes From His James Bond Films Pathetic ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
James Bond is a fictional character created by British novelist Ian Fleming in 1953. Several films are made on the fictional character, with many actors taking up the mantle. Pierce Brosnan played the role from 1995 to the early 2000s throughout four films. The movies are known to be very stylized and have steamy scenes with female actresses, but Brosnan called his intimate scenes ‘pathetic.’
The senior actor made his first appearance in the role in 1995’s Golden Eye. After him, Daniel Craig took on the role, and he has also retired from the part. Actor Pierce Brosnan has been cited in Wyoming for allegedly walking in thermal areas of Yellowstone National Park. Court documents reveal that the citations were listed as petty offenses and included traveling by foot in prohibited areas and violating closures and use limits.

Yellowstone National Park is renowned for its hydrothermal features, such as hot springs, geysers and mud pots, and the park’s official website advises visitors to stay on designated boardwalks and trails in thermal areas due to the potential dangers. Speaking in her masterclass at Red Sea International Film Festival, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry said that launching her own production company is finally empowering her to make the stories she has always wanted to produce and direct – including a project that she identified on the plane on the way to Jeddah.
“Finally on the plane coming here I saw a story, I saw what’s in my heart, and realised what I wanted to share,” said Berry, who recently launched production company HalleHolly with former WME partner Holly Jeter.
When pressed further she said: “It’s a love story at its core, but it deals with the supernatural and time travel and the future. It’s taken me the last few years to figure this out.”

As Mae West once declared, “When I’m good, I’m very good. But when I’m bad, I’m better.”
That might also be the case when it comes to British actress Rosamund Pike, who just won a Best Actress trophy in the musical or comedy category for the darkly comic “I Care a Lot.” Her win was a bit of a surprise since newcomer Maria Bakalova, who plays Sacha Baron Cohen’s daughter Tutar in the “Borat” sequel, was considered the favorite. But she was no match for Pike’s wicked-smart turn as a stylish hoaxer who legally becomes a guardian for seniors who supposedly can’t take care of themselves and end up seizing their assets for her own gain.

Daniel Craig's run as James Bond rewrote the rules of the entire franchise.
Seriously. There's a clear delineation line between 2006's "Casino Royale" and every single other film about Agent 007. A before and an after. A then and a now. Fans argued about it then and they're arguing about it now. They'll continue arguing about it until the heat death of the universe, and it's hard to imagine the next Bond iteration ever quite going back to how things used to be. Craig's humane, broken take on the character was a cinematic earthquake. The landscape shifted beneath his weary feet. And his movies reacted accordingly, evolving with his performance ... and taking some big swings.

Her latest – wickedly funny – performance in the cutthroat society thriller has Oscar nomination stamped all over it. So why does the actor get so self-conscious?
Rosamund Pike is jolly when she appears on my laptop screen in a cream-coloured blouse, with a cream jacket draped around her shoulders. Vanilla hair only adds to the suggestion of dessert. It is early evening, and the actor is calling from Prague, where she lives with her partner and their two sons. Is the wood-panelled opulence behind her real or virtual? “It’s a real hotel,” she protests, then starts brandishing props to prove her point. “It has water and cookies and tea, and a cup with four straws, which is how I roll.” The part that earned her an unfair reputation for iciness – the turncoat Miranda Frost from Die Another Day, which she got straight after university having never seen a Bond film – suddenly feels like centuries ago.

The Daniel Craig era of James Bond changed up the many decades-long film series in a number of different ways. Most notably was its tonal shift, steering further away from the goofier and campier elements of the series that the "Austin Powers" trilogy had so much fun lampooning. After all, once you make "Die Another Day," the only direction you can go is a more grounded one. But there had been serious James Bond films before, such as the earliest Sean Connery films or the Timothy Dalton era. The bigger change the Craig films made was taking a page out of the modern franchise booklet, and that was serialization.
The first 20 James Bond films may have brought actors and filmmakers over from one film to another, but the plots of those films rarely carried over. Part of the pleasure of...

Of all the James Bond movies, "Die Another Day" is perhaps the most detested. Maybe you think it's an underrated Bond film deserving of more respect, but the prevailing view of this early 2000s outing is that of a truly shameful blunder in the canon. Of course, perspectives shift over time. At one point, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was treated with similar derision to "Die Another Day," and now George Lazenby's only outing in the tux is viewed as one of the best in Bond's 60-year on-screen run. But there's something about "Die Another Day" that I can't help but feel will forever keep it from achieving the same respect.
The ice palaces, invisible cars, and Korean colonels using plastic surgery to transform into insufferable British toffs, are all beyond ridiculous. But they're funny, and Bond has been funny and lighthearted at various points throughout his career to great effect.

Madonna kicked off “The Celebration Tour” with the first of four performances at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday night.
A true retrospective performance, the career-spanning setlist touched on all eras of Madonna’s career and featured numerous songs that hadn’t been performed in decades. The show opened with only the second performance ever of “N0thing Really Matters” from Ray of Light. A few songs later, she dusted off “Live to Tell” from True Blue for the first time since 2006.
Songs like “Justify My Love,” “Bad Girl,” and “Rain” were performed for the first time sine 1993, while “Bedtime Story” was dusted off for the first time since 1995. Other noteworthy performances included “Like A Prayer,” in which she was accompanied by topless dancers, an acoustic cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” and “Like a Virgin,” which was interpolated elements of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.”
