The decade of the 1990s was fruitful for thrillers and mystery stories, including the ones that contain erotic elements too. The main director of this kind was David Lynch, who inscribed his name in history with the Twin Peaks fever sweeping over America.
However, there were other directors who tried to ride this hype train. Such an attempt was made in 1992, when the psychological thriller we’re going to talk about was released, and since then it gained such a cultish status it’s still discussed on Reddit.
Its plot revolves around Allison, a young woman who decides to separate from her fiancé and starts looking for a roommate. Eventually, she finds one, a femme fatale named Hedra, who seems to be incredibly interested in her neighbor's life.
However, when Allison starts thinking of reconciling with her boyfriend, Hedra grows jealous and even aggressive. The more we observe her changed behavior,...

Pacific Heights has mixed aspects of status culture, domestic and psychological thriller, giving us an intense, melodramatic, and juicy entry into one of the best subgenres. Add to that a surprisingly energetic directing style, alongside Michael Keaton going full psycho, and you get a decent early 90s Thriller. Today on Revisited, we head back to the 90s and dig into Lance Vlcek’s second entry into his Domestic Thriller Trilogy.
The film stars Michael Keaton, Matthew Modine, Melanie Griffith, Mako Mako, and Laurie Metcalf. It has the following synopsis: Unmarried yuppies Patty (Melanie Griffith) and Drake (Matthew Modine) move into an expensive dream home in a high-end neighborhood in San Francisco. As they renovate the house, they look for a tenant for the first floor of their house. Carter Hayes (Michael Keaton) seems like a great fit at first, but it transpires that he is a con artist who plans...

Apart from obvious thriller choices from the decade of the 1990s, which include Basic Instinct, Seven, Fight Club and Usual Suspects, there are some hidden nostalgic gems, which can immerse you in the atmosphere of tempting mystery and suspense.
Here are 5 of the chilling 1990’s thrillers, handpicked by Redditors and available for watching on Prime Video.
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992)
Being the perfect example of the femme fatale trope, this story transforms the typical dangerous woman into a suburban obstetrician’s wife, who goes into all serious after she acknowledges her husband’s sexual misconduct. Annabella Sciorra and Rebecca De Mornay’s performances here are the main keys for keeping the movie’s nail-biting suspense, and be sure that the twists will leave your jaws on the floor!
Pacific Heights (1990)

It’s Cape Fear meets ‘The Burbs in director John Schlesinger’s Pacific Heights. Although you might be fooled by Hanz Zimmer’s score, which sounds a lot more like you’re watching Sexy Beetlejuice than a ’90s thriller. This is pure irony, of course, considering the film stars Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, as a conman who is six feet from the edge and thinking maybe doing murder isn’t so far down.
For those of you arguing silently in your heads that Pacific Heights is not a horror movie, let me go ahead and agree with you. It’s a pure thriller. But imagine this for a moment; imagine somewhere out there is a fresh-off Batman Michael Keaton, sitting in a dark room twirling both a razor blade and a large cockroach through his fingers like some sort of emo fidget spinner, plotting you and your significant other’s demise.

The 1990s are regularly regarded as the era of the high-concept thriller. In the wake of eighties smashes like Jagged Edge and Fatal Attraction, audiences tended to flock to these kinds of movies, although it’s worth noting they quickly spun off into two different mini-genres. There was the erotic thriller genre, whose queen was definitely Sharon Stone, with movies like Basic Instinct and Sliver, but there was also the so-called yuppie thriller.
These movies often centred around upwardly mobile middle-class couples who wind up in the crosshairs of a maniac who wants to dismantle their lives. Fatal Attraction was arguably the first of these. Still, many more would follow, including Pacific Heights, which featured Michael Keaton in a memorably evil role, Bad Influence (with Rob Lowe), Internal Affairs (which revitalized Richard Gere’s career), Malice, and the great Single White Female. But, of the genre, one of the most effective was 1992’s Unlawful Entry,...

Known for his towering height and slim physique, Matthew Modine rose to fame on the wings of Stanley Kubrick‘s Full Metal Jacket (1987). He began acting professionally in the early 1980s and it wasn’t long before he scored his first main role in a feature film. In addition to Full Metal Jacket, Modine also gained early recognition in his career for his performance in movies such as Birdy (1984), Vision Quest (1985), Pacific Heights (1990), Short Cuts (1993), and Cutthroat Island (1995). On the other hand, Stranger Things, The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Bedford Diaries, Weeds, and Proof...

A throwback to all the B-grade knockoffs that followed such hit late ’80s/early ’90s household thrillers as “The Stepfather,” “Pacific Heights,” and “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” “Paradise Cove” will be nobody’s idea of an original movie, let alone a good one. Still, it provides a degree of schlock entertainment value, as a young couple discover their Malibu fixer-upper comes with a crazy homeless woman squatting on the premises, itching to turn homicidal … again. Low on suspense and plausibility but high on tasteless and absurd ideas, Martin Guigui’s film does offer undiscriminating viewers some fun, albeit more of a laughing-at than laughing-with variety.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

July 23rd is playing host to an excellent variety of home media releases for films both new and old. In the grand tradition of psychological thrillers from yesteryear (especially the 1990s)—you know, the ones where we watch as some psychotic manipulator takes advantage of well-meaning folks who are afraid of confrontation—comes Deon Taylor’s The Intruder, an endlessly entertaining and enthralling cautionary tale about the dangers of home ownership.
The Intruder is centered around Scott and Annie Russell (played by Michael Ealy and Meagan Good), a young and successful couple who are tired of the hustle and bustle of living in downtown San Francisco and decide that they’re in need of a change of scenery. They find the home of their dreams out in Napa Valley, as widower Charlie Peck (Dennis Quaid) has decided to sell his family estate, Foxglove, and start a new life out in Florida. A couple find themselves the target of a madman in a familiar retread of early 90s psycho-from-hell thrillers that squeezes enjoyment from tired cliches
After its peak in the early 90s, the psycho-from-hell thriller, typified by films such as Fatal Attraction, Single White Female and Pacific Heights, died a villain’s death at the box office, only rearing its head infrequently in the years since. In the late 00s, Sony’s genre label Screen Gems spotted a gap in the market and started pumping out variations on a cookie-cutter formula but with one key difference. Films such as Obsessed, No Good Deed, The Perfect Guy and When the Bough Breaks have been almost universally populated by actors of colour in strict opposition to the all-white thrillers that came before them.

In 2015 a creepy-ass stalker who called himself The Watcher, terrorized a family forcing them to move out of their dream home. Now, Hollywood is looking to cash in on this true life horror story and at the same time help the family that was affected.

This is shaping up to be one of the biggest material deals this year, especially for a magazine article, and Netflix will pay seven figures for a rights package that includes an article by Reeves Wiedeman published on New York Magazine’s website The Cut, and the rights of the beleaguered homeowners who’ve lived this nightmare for four years.
The article auctioned by CAA created a stampede for the movie rights in an auction that has been vigorous all week.

Michael Keaton, who celebrates his 66th birthday on September 5, got his start as a production assistant for a fellow Pittsburgh native, PBS kid-show host Fred Rogers. His film career took off in the 1980s in a series of era-defining popular comedies such as “Mr. Mom” before hitting the jackpot when Tim Burton recruited him as his Caped Crusader in 1989’s“Batman.” Keaton would lose some of his fast-talker mojo when he got mired in family fluff such as “Herbie: Fully Loaded,” “Jack Frost” and “First Daughter.”
But in the past decade or so, he has become quite the esteemed actor. Keaton soared to Academy-Award-nominated anxiety-riddled heights in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Birdman” in 2014. He also stood out as the editor in charge of the Pulitzer-winning journalism team that exposed the Catholic Church’s child sex-abuse scandal in 2015’s Best Picture Oscar victor, “Spotlight.” This unique performer continues to be in demand.

Pacific Heights is a great example as to why you always run a credit check on a prospective renter when you’re a landlord. This way you can hopefully avoid coming across a person like Carter Hayes that’s going to do whatever he can to ruin your life. However with two individuals who are obviously new to the renting game Hayes hits his payday as he not only provokes the couple into the actions he needs to ruin their lives, but also taps into their financials and begins to dig even deeper. Thankfully they don’t take it lying down and manage

Spider-Man: Homecoming brings the webslinger back to the big screen in style. Here's our review...
Well, Marvel and Sony kept their promise. Within ten minutes of Spider-Man: Homecoming getting started, any hint of origin story business for both Peter Parker and the film’s key antagonist - Adrian Toomes/Vulture - is done and dusted. The pair are set up for the two hours that follow, and there’s no radioactive spider bite in sight. Surprisingly, there’s not much Iron Man in sight either. Given that the promotions for the film have often been dominated by Robert Downey Jr and/or his metallic alter ego, be assured that this is very much a Peter Parker story. If anything, more a Peter Parker story than a Spider-Man one.
That's the core of the movie we get, and it’s a choice that really pays dividends. In a film with some well-delivered rug pulls,...

Some actors manage to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It’s impressive enough to find your niche in Hollywood’s A-list even once. Occasionally, an actor will reinvent him/herself and begin a new phase of their careers that will be even more successful than it was before. Here are nine actors who had a cinematic rebirth.
Liam Neeson- Neeson has had a long career, and the early part of it was in dramatic roles. An intense dramatic actor, he apeared in films like The Dead Pool, Dark Man, Schindler’s List, Rob Roy and Les Miserables. His career rebirth came after playing Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars-Episode one: The Phantom Menace. After that, he got more offers for actions parts and recreated himself as an action hero in films like Gangs of NY, Batman Begins, Taken, Clash of the Titans, the A-Team, Unknown, the Grey, Taken 2,...

It’s been 25 years since the last time Michael Keaton and Tim Burton worked together. You’ll remember the two teamed up for Batman and Batman Returns. Fresh off of playing The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems that Keaton is embracing his abilities to play the “bad guy” because as it turns out the star is close to joining Tim Burton’s live-action Disney project Dumbo to play none other than the film’s villain. (P.S. his best villain role was in Pacific Heights, bar none). According to Variety, Keaton’s in talks to star in Burton’s latest, the partially live-action Dumbo movie.

Overestimating the breadth of their friendship – by assuming that they have one – the spurned tech guy turns stalker, using his computer skills to infiltrate and attack the family on every level. They’re gonna need a better firewall.
It may have a grizzled, craggy former James Bond as the lead, but this is no Taken riff. In spite of its ultra high-tech trappings, I.T. is a remarkably old-fashioned stalker movie, reminiscent of the likes of Prey, Pacific Heights, One Hour Photo or, um, The Cable Guy. Micheal Keaton stars in the story of the man who brought McDonald's to the world....
The last time Laura Dern worked on a project involving writer/director John Lee Hancock, it was the excellent A Perfect World, that Hancock wrote and Clint Eastwood directed. There, she had a meaty role, and brought to it the gravity and commitment we’ve come to expect from a Laura Dern performance. For Hancock’s latest, The Founder – which he directs, this time from a script by Robert Siegel – it’s incredibly miserable then to see Dern reduced to what may just be the most thankless role of her career. Here, she’s the wife of Michael Keaton’s Ray Kroc, but in terms of a character on screen, her job is to wear either an evening dress or nightwear, and basically to scowl at and nag her husband. Have mercy! Jeff Franklin, famed creator of Full House, has got it, dude. When loyal fans hear the words Full House, only one thing comes to mind: The beautiful San Francisco row house that sat at 1882 Girard Street. Okay, so maybe a few things come to mind, like Danny's cleanliness or Uncle Jesse's hair or how cute Michelle was. But truly, that home was one for the ages and a source of pure envy for those who watched (or still watch) the sitcom. Which is precisely why its recent sale made such a big splash. Back in May, the owners of the iconic Victorian (which is actually located on Broderick Street in the Pacific Heights neighborhood) decided to put the place on the market, and...

Will Fuller House be the thing that finally kills off the nostalgia craze once and for all? The reboot of the Tgif sitcom was announced, to a modest amount of fanfare, last summer, and Netflix just dropped the first season's 13 episodes today. The original was always a bit of a cheesefest — full of groanworthy jokes, sappy life lessons, and goofy catchphrases — and though it's been 21 years since the family-friendly sitcom went off the air, nothing has changed. There's still a laugh track; there are still those catchphrases (Have mercy!); and...

From writing Beverly Hills Cop to directing Toy Soldiers and Dawn Patrol, we have a chat with writer/producer/director Daniel Petrie Jr.
Daniel Petrie Jr comes from a family with movies in its blood.
His father, Daniel Petrie Sr, directed films such as Resurrection, Cocoon: The Return and A Raisin In The Sun. His mother, Dorothea, produced movies, wrote novels and acted. And then his brother, Donald Petrie, directed Cocoon: The Return, Miss Congeniality and Grumpy Old Men.
Yet Daniel Petrie Jr is just as busy. His screenplays include Turner & Hooch and Beverly Hills Cop (for which he earned an Academy Award nomination), whilst his directorial debut was the much-loved (by us especially) Toy Soldiers.
As his new film as director, Dawn Patrol (starring Scott Eastwood) lands on DVD, he spared us some time for a chat about his career. Starting with what he's up to right now.

Joel Edgerton's directorial debut is one of the best movie surprises of the year so far. We check out The Gift...
Best known for his work in front of the camera, Joel Edgerton wrote and directed The Gift, a borderline Hitchcockian stalker drama in which nothing is quite as it seems. The Callens, Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn, (Rebecca Hall) are a couple who seem to have it made - moving on from their old life in Chicago, they've just relocated to a swanky house in Los Angeles. Simon is due for a big promotion at work and Robyn is eager to start a family in their beautiful new home.
However, a chance encounter with Gordon 'Gordo' Mosley, (Edgerton) a former high school classmate of Simon's, upsets the status quo. He welcomes them to the neighbourhood with small tokens of friendship and offers to help set up the entertainment system,...

In the early 90s, various psycho thrillers were churned out by studios following the success of Fatal Attraction and The Silence Of The Lambs. These lead the way for dozens of simliar fare, including the likes of Cape Fear, the underrated Pacific Heights, Misery, Raising Cain, Single White Female, Unlawful Entry and, memorably, Basic Instinct.

The dog days soon will be upon us, and with them the dregs of American cinema dumped unceremoniously into the local multiplex. But you could do a lot worse than The Gift, a creepy, crafty throwback to early ’90s stalker thrillers like Pacific Heights, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Single White Female and Unlawful Entry. Taken on its own undemanding terms and considered within its not very original framework, Joel Edgerton’s feature-length directorial debut is a pleasant — or pleasantly unpleasant — surprise, hitting its genre marks in brisk, unfussy fashion and raising a few hairs on the

From Batman to Birdman and everything in between, we take a look at Michael Keaton's top 10 most memorable roles...
Sometimes, the Oscars have a tendency of giving out awards to actors who are seen to have paid their dues, perhaps not for the best performance of that year or even for the particular actor's own best performance, but to recognise past work. Michael Keaton is not the most likely of these, but this could be why some speculated that he was an early favourite for this year's Best Actor award, for his performance in Birdman.
The later frontrunner Eddie Redmayne rightfully and very graciously wound up taking it home for his work as Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, though Birdman went on to take home the main prize for Best Picture and a number of other major awards.
It would hardly have been a major upset if...

One thing you can say about Paul and Gina Schwendel is that certainly they appreciate luxurious rental homes. Santa Barbara — Saturday night the Santa Barbara International Film Festival shook things up a bit with the annual Modern Master Award tribute, this year dedicated to "Birdman" star Michael Keaton. Colleagues and co-stars sent pre-recorded messages to honor the actor, emotions ran high at the end of the evening and the fest had a special surprise in store for moderator Leonard Maltin as well. First, the retrospective. It was a typical deep dive into a career, the highlights of which you can read in our recent series of interviews with the actor. Keaton was clearly overwhelmed by seeing things in this context as his "Multiplicity" co-star Andie MacDowell was on hand to present an introductory clip package of career highlights. "I feel like I'm gonna pass out," he said as he took the stage to begin the evening. Maltin noted Keaton's first scene from "Night Shift," as we hear the...
