Christian Bale has scored quite a few remarkably successful projects as one of the best actors in the industry, and he hasn’t hesitated to perform immaculately in pretty much every single one of them either. But while all of them are commendable, perhaps none comes as close to perfection as The Dark Knight, helmed by the mastermind Christopher Nolan.

Besides quite literally being regarded as one of the best Batman movies created to date, the second titular movie in this film series also even holds a major record that would be hard to replicate for any other movie. The masterpiece stars such legendary actors with such impeccable acting chops that pretty much the entire main cast has been acknowledged by the Academy at least once.

David Schmoeller's 1989 film "Puppet Master" was almost going to be a theatrical release in the summer of 1989, but pivoted to the VHS market at the last minute. Looking at the 1989 supper movie season, one can see why producer Charles Band made the decision. "Puppet Master" would have opened against "Batman," "Ghostbusters II," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," "Back to the Future Part II," "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," "License to Kill," and "Lethal Weapon 2." There were just too many blockbusters it would've had to compete with.
Its movement to the straight-to-video market might have reduced its prestige, but "Puppet Master" spawned many, many sequels (not to mention a few crossovers) that persist to this day (the most recent "Puppet Master" film was released in 2022). The killer puppets in the film have become minor horror icons and often serve as the face of Full Moon Features, a...

Barry Keoghan has very quickly risen through the ranks of Hollywood and taken a front seat in mainstream media. While there is no denying that he is a talented actor and has even been a part of several critically acclaimed projects, his name was still fairly unknown until the past year.
All of a sudden, not only was he the lead starring in one of the most talked about films of the year, but he was also in a relationship with a pop star that no one could get their eyes off.

It’s always fun to hear your favorite filmmakers talk about the nitty-gritty details of your favorite film. And if you are a fan of the superhero genre, you certainly cannot help yourself from wondering what went through Zack Snyder’s mind when he was making Ben Affleck’s Justice League. In an interview with the Russo Brothers, the filmmaker talked about everything from his vision to his process regarding his version of Justice League.

The history of film is teeming with alternate endings that never saw the light of day, whether it's because of production troubles, executive meddling, or writers and directors simply changing their minds. In franchise-oriented blockbuster cinema, the practice of studying, testing, and even shooting different endings is especially prevalent, as those movies have to weather a host of artistic and commercial ambitions that the ending must facilitate simultaneously.
Superhero movies, with their precise storytelling geometry and enormous cultural presence, are particularly susceptible to having their endings reconsidered or reshot. There is an enormous pressure for superhero movie endings to work, to resolve the plot efficiently, to send viewers home buzzing for the right reasons. While that sometimes leads to great, refreshingly thoughtful storytelling decisions, it can also lead to conformity, blandness, and incongruence just as often -- especially when the ending has been changed out of sheer executive pressure.

In a bit of a surprise, Rocksteady, known for its work on the Batman: Arkham series, has pivoted from providing support to its live-service Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game to helping with the director’s cut of Hogwarts Legacy.
This move has left fans of the studio with mixed feelings, as they wonder what’s next for the developer and if it will be relegated to being a support studio.

The video game industry often sees some game release that set the trend for whole genres ant archetypes of games. Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games are the perfect example. Praised for their fresh takes on hand-to-hand combat at the time, the trilogy is still highly regarded by gamers even today.
This success had a direct impact on developers of other games and franchises. Developers such as Monolith took inspiration from this in the development of their Middle Earth games. Including Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.

"Batman: The Animated Series" is one of the best shows of all time, a masterclass in superhero and animation storytelling, with high stakes and mature stories that don't talk down to young audiences, no matter what limitations Fox put on the creators. It also features one of the best voice over performances in animation, with Kevin Conroy embodying the all-time greatest Batman and Bruce Wayne.
The cartoon was a visual marvel, the animation done on black paper to give it a noir aesthetic that, together with Art Deco designs give the show a unique and timeless look. The series also gave us new and bold reinterpretations of classic comic book characters from Scarecrow and Clayface to Mr. Freeze, making them sympathetic and complex.
Of course, capturing the entire 85-episode cartoon into a single Lego set is an impossible task, but the designers at Lego pulled it off by focusing on imagery and style.

In video game development, or any creative piece of media, be it a movie, TV show, or book, there are always ideas that get left out of the final product. In the video game industry, there is a website known as The Cutting Room Floor which houses all the left-out ideas and content that players find in games that have already been released.
Rocksteady Studios, creators of the highly acclaimed Batman: Arkham games, decided in the development of Arkham City, to not leave any idea on the cutting roof floor. And it might’ve been the best decision they made because Arkham City is arguably the most complete game in gaming history.

When Ryan Condal decamped for the U.K. in 2020 to begin work on a Game of Thrones spinoff, it hadn’t occurred to the screenwriter that he, his wife and their two young children wouldn’t return to Los Angeles anytime soon. “It was about two years later, when the show came out and everybody watched it, that I finally thought, ‘Oh, Ok, we’re going to be here for a while,’ ” he says.

The year was 1989 when Michael Keaton first donned the cape and cowl for Tim Burton’s Batman, Cher wanted to turn back time, and Marty McFly bungled the most sure-fire get-rich-quick scheme in cinematic history in Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future Part II.
After the monumental success of Back to the Future, Univeral Studios approached Robert Zemeckis about creating a sequel to his film that had quickly become a pop culture touchstone. Hesitant about capturing lightning in a bottle twice, Zemeckis said he wouldn’t make the film unless Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd returned as Marty McFly and Doc Brown, respectively. Thankfully, both were game to gas up the DeLorean and push the speedometer to 88mph for another excursion through time. With Fox and Lloyd confirmed, Zemeckis arranged his ceremonial objects to summon his writing partner, Bob Gale, to determine where Marty and Doc would travel next.

One of the films that Michael Keaton had done before donning the cape and cowl in Tim Burton’s Batman is the 1986 cultural merging comedy Gung Ho. The movie came from Ron Howard after making a splash with….well, Splash — a Tom Hanks/Daryll Hannah comedy from 1983. Then, Howard went on to direct the hit film Cocoon with Steve Guttenberg in 1985. Cocoon is also a film that we’ve headlined in our column about hard-to-find movies. However, in a strong step for this Ron Howard film, the video label Kino has announced the release of a 4K restoration on Bluray for Gung Ho.
The movie would open at number one at the box office in March of 1986 with a $7 million opening and finish its run with $36 million. Interestingly, a TV series based on the film would actually premiere later that year in December of 1986. That version would star Scott Bakula...

Tim Burton’s rendition of Batman remains perhaps one of the most eccentric yet authentic versions of the Caped Crusader. To the gothic filmmaker, the orphaned superhero didn’t symbolize the heroic savior that comes to Gotham’s rescue, as is the quintessential take of the character.

There have effectively been innumerable versions of Batman, both in the comics and in live-action and TV series depictions. While the character in itself has been utterly dark in quite a few of them, arguably none came closer to Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder’s version of the caped crusader, seen in the likes of Batman vs Superman, Justice League, and 2017’s Suicide Squad.
Ben Affleck’s Batman in Justice League (2017) | DC Studios
Of course, while Affleck’s violent and murder-loving iteration of Batman falls in line with the comics, it is also comprehensively different from the kind of Batman depictions that live-actions have traditionally seen. That appears to be down to Zack Snyder’s vision, as he explained in an interview how he sees the character of Bruce Wayne, and how his childhood trauma affects him as an adult.

Most of us know the gist of things: Homelander (Antony Starr) is still at large, and Butcher (Karl Urban) is still with the Boys trying to take him down. But there's about a dozen other storylines going at any given point, and even the Homelander v. Butcher thread was complicated massively in the season 3 finale.
So, two years after the last season aired, here's your guide to everything you need to remember about your favorite characters like Maeve, Annie, Hughie, Frenchie, A-Train and The Deep. We'll also go into the recent spin-off "Gen V," whose characters appear in the trailer for "The Boys" season 4 trailer, pointing to further overlapping of storylines. We know you might not have the time to do a full rewatch, so here's the next best thing.

Michael Keaton has done a wide range of roles over a glittering career, including donning the iconic Batman cape in Tim Burton’s pioneering film on the DC superhero. But it was his other collaboration with Burton in 1988’s Beetlejuice that put him on the map as a star to be reckoned with.

Now, more than 3 decades after the blockbuster hit screens, Keaton is back playing the charismatic titular ghoul who wreaks havoc in Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 which will release in September 2024. The film also stars Jenna Ortega along with Winona Ryder reprising her role from the original. Most of Wild Wild West plays exactly in the way you would expect, as a uglier, less charismatic version of Men in Black. Sure, Will Smith still has his ineffable cool and Kevin Kline’s always lovable, even when playing a motor-mouthed and egotistical inventor. But the two just don’t click like Smith did with Tommy Lee Jones, and Barry Sonnenfeld’s direction feels forced and mechanical instead of electric. So when Smith’s secret agent Jim West and Kline’s U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon find the secret lab of mad scientist Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh), the audience feels just as unimpressed as the characters. As the exhausted duo mocks Loveless’s offerings, they ask “What has he got?” listing off his failures. The same question could be posed to Wild Wild West, with its garish set-pieces and flat humor.

Harley Quinn has an odd history. The character has become one of the most recognizable aspects of Batman’s mythos but did not originate from the comics. Rarely do characters that don’t exist in the source material get the kind of love that Harley Quinn did, and it seemed to have been the case for her initially as well.

Harley Quinn is one of the most important characters in Batman’s mythos, a rare occasion where an important character in the mythos of an A-list superhero was created outside of comic books. A creation of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, Harley Quinn would go on to become one of the most popular characters in the Batman franchise, and headline multiple series of her own, in animation and in comic books.

Of all the existing franchises in the entertainment industry, two of the biggest rivals are the Marvel Universe and the DC Universe. Both are two of the greatest superhero franchises of all time, with even shared writers for their comic books.
But what if these two universes were to collide onscreen due to a multiversal situation? Well, that is something very well possible and could happen.

Since both are superhero sagas, they could definitely clash onscreen in a multiversal war and just may have already done that had it not been for one superhero who had been preventing it all along.

The prevailing wisdom on Tim Burton is that he's somewhat lost his way as his career has gone on. Whereas his early filmography is marked by some of the most influential films of the last few decades, his later output has relied a little too heavily on a CGI version of his famously hand-crafted aesthetic and neglected the fundamental elements that make a good story. However, with the news that his upcoming "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" once again embraces practical effects, we might be about to witness a Burton renaissance.
Still, there's no getting around the fact that in most rankings of Tim Burton films, his older work is usually at the top. In terms of critical response, you'll typically find "Ed Wood," his 1994 biopic of the cult filmmaker, in the top spot, followed by more universally beloved classics such as "Edward Scissorhands" or the original "Beetlejuice." Beetlejuice is back! Batman director Tim Burton and beloved actor Michael Keaton are reuniting for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to Burton's award-winning Beetlejuice.
Empire Magazine has shared two covers for the sequel, with the first putting the spotlight on the title character alongside stars Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, and Catherine O'Hara. The second focuses solely on Beetlejuice and was illustrated by artist Chris Christodoulou.
After an unexpected family tragedy, the movie sees three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.
With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

But, since its launch back in February, the game has quickly become infamous as one of the first big disappointments of the year. Right from the controversial decision to even make the game a single-player live service title to horrendous character choices, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has left a fork for Rocksteady as a developer.
Fans have been desperate for a game like Batman: Arkham Knight for years. Many believed that if Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice followed the same formula as the Batman title, it would’ve gone down in gaming history as one of the best. However, there’s still a chance for Rocksteady to make a comeback by finally using the Ninja Turtles IP combined with its experience with Arkham Knight.

The transition from good to evil has fascinated writers for centuries. Forcing characters to dance on the line of morality has always intrigued audiences more than two-dimensional characters with simple moral compasses. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is well-known for administering such dilemmas to their viewers through the characters they make.

Be it Kilmonger in Black Panther, Thanos’ noble motivations to wipe out half the universe, or the execution of the Punisher’s justice, it is difficult for fans to condemn some villains when their motivations are so complex. Despite this, there are a few characters that have stayed consistent over the years, even though the law would disagree.
Five of the main six Avengers have managed to always have a strong moral compass, ever since the 2011 film, and these traits have stayed consistent. However, it would seem that their actors have played parts that juxtapose their iconic roles.
