A new month is here, which gives us an excuse to showcase a whole new set of streaming horror movies. This month, we're looking at creature features! Monsters, insects, animas run amok — they're all here, ready to make mincemeat of unsuspecting humans who dare cross their paths. The creatures here come in all shapes and sizes, from normal-sized (killer) dogs to mutant sharks to city-leveling behemoths. They're mean, they're scary, they're not to be trifled with. Many of these beasts spring forth from nature, as if nature itself is fighting back against us puny, worthless human beings. Who will survive and what will be left of them? Let's find out.

Stephen King may be known for epic novels like It and The Stand, but many Constant Readers first met the Master of Horror through his short fiction. Beginning with the iconic 1978 collection Night Shift, the best-selling author has been dazzling us for decades with short stories overflowing with sickening gore, fantastical creatures, meticulous violence, and transcendent joy. King follows suit in You Like It Darker, a jaw-dropping collection of twelve terrifying tales, five of them previously unpublished. Inspired by Leonard Cohen’s “You Want It Darker,” the outstanding tome dives head-first into the brutal randomness of pain and destruction – a “lullaby for suffering” only King can deliver.
The collection kicks off with “Two Talented Bastids,” a poignant story about an elderly author and his less talented son. Laird Carmody is a small-town Mainer who prizes his quiet life among the locals – a thinly veiled reference to King himself. The sprawling...

You thought you were okay sitting on the toilet until you read Dreamcatcher. You’d happily walk past a storm drain until you read It. You’d go into a creepy boutique shop before checking Needful Things out of the library. You didn’t even mind checking into Room 217 at a hotel until you read The Shining. More than perhaps any other horror novelist, Stephen King has unnerved our collective imagination with twisted creations that stalk our everyday lives. Demonic cars, rabid dogs, alien domes, possessed caretakers, crazed fans… there’s a Stephen King monster for every day of the year, plus one extra on leap years.
With a back catalogue reaching all the way from the 1970s to now, if you stacked every novel Stephen King had ever published in a teetering pile, it would almost certainly topple over and crush you to death.

In Stephen King's magnificent book "On Writing," the best-selling horror novelist makes a surprising confession: "There's one novel, 'Cujo,' that I barely remember writing at all. I don't say that with pride or shame, only with a vague sense of sorrow and loss." Yes, that's right — Stephen King barely remembers writing one of his most famous books. The reason: substance abuse. King has been open about his alcoholism over the years (he also had a pretty bad cocaine habit at one point), and it was his frequent drinking that caused him to forget about penning "Cujo." King also states that he's sad that he can't quite remember the book, as he thinks parts of it are quite good.
Published in 1981, King's "Cujo" follows several different connected characters but focuses primarily on a giant Saint Bernard. The poor pup ends up being bitten by a bat and comes...

With the divide between critics and audiences growing ever larger in today’s day and age, fans of films and genres have begun looking to industry leaders and seasoned storytellers for recommendations that would otherwise fly under the radar of the mainstream audience. Stephen King has come out to recommend one such film, starring Monarch: Legacy of Monsters alum Wyatt Russel.
Wyatt Russel in Night Swim
Night Swim is a horror offering by first-time feature-length director Bryce McGuire, who previously also created a short film of the same name. The film is produced by Blumhouse Production and Atomic Monster. It focuses on a family moving into a house with a swimming pool that has something very wrong with it.
Night Swim received less than favorable reviews from critics
Night Swim
The film has a critics score of 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is contrasted by a 43% audience score for the film.

The Twisted Childhood Universe, also known as the Poohniverse, is taking shape. In case you've yet to be clued into what this is all about, the cinematic universe is set to take classic childhood tales now in the public domain and give them a horror movie twist. Things kicked off with the not-so-great "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey," a film that earned bad reviews but made good money. Now the killer Pooh Bear is back with "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2," a film that's defying the odds and actually garnering good reviews.
Things aren't stopping there, though. The next film in the line-up is "Bambi: The Reckoning," a dark and twisted retelling of "Bambi." And this is a far cry from the gentle young deer seen in the classic Disney film. No, this deer is big, mean, and out for blood. The first "Bambi: The Reckoning" teaser awaits you above, and...

Exclusive: Catherine Corcoran, Justin Miles, Doug Jones, Dee Wallace and Krsy Fox are starring in If it Bleeds, an indie horror pic from first-time director Matthew Hersh.
The film has been quietly filming and is nearing completion, billed as an “anthology-style crime thriller” from Hersh, whose Night of the Missing with director Samuel Gonzalez Jr is currently topping the Cineverse streaming platform Screambox after launch in December.
In If if Bleeds, genre actor Corcoran as young and ambitious news reporter Diane Winters and her cameraman Simon, played by Miles, as they uncover a mysterious series of gruesome murders that unfold throughout the course of a chaotic and violent day. As events unfold, the duo become players in a sinister situation even more menacing than either one could have imagined.
Horror icons Jones and Wallace will also star, the former as a plastic surgeon, as will actor and musician Fox. Wallace and Fox are consulting producers.
Allison Victoria-Wolfe and Doug Hawley are among the producers, with Gonzalez Jr. directing an additional segment.
”To have so many genre greats believe in me and trust me with the story I wanted to tell with this film at such an early stage of my career was truly surreal,” said Hersh. “I figured what better way to dive into the horror genre than through the eyes of a news reporter in the field seeing and facing the horrors of humanity unfold in front of her very own eyes.”
“Ever a champion of independent filmmakers, I was thrilled when Matthew invited me to come along on this next phase of his creative journey,” added Corcoran Diane’s story is universal in that we all have the need to be seen and valued, and I can’t wait for the world to see how our incredible cast and crew bring that theme to life.”
“Getting to play a quirky cosmetic surgeon was a treat enough for me,” said Jones. “But under Mathew Hersh’s careful direction and witty writing, that treat was sweetened all the more. Add to that the professional, efficient crew, the joy of acting opposite the thoughtful and hilarious Krsy Fox, and this filming experience was dang near perfect.”...

You Like It Darker: Stephen King’s next short story collection includes the Cujo sequel Rattlesnakes
A year and a half ago, legendary literary master of horror Stephen King mentioned that he was writing a novella called Rattlesnakes, which he referred to as a sequel to his 1981 novel Cujo (buy it Here), which was turned into a movie (watch the movie Here) that King thought should have earned star Dee Wallace an Academy Award. Although the events of Cujo are referenced in other King stories, it has never gotten a direct follow-up – which makes sense, since it’s about a rabid St. Bernard dog that doesn’t survive past the final pages. But now Entertainment Weekly has revealed exactly how Rattlesnakes is connected to Cujo: the lead character happens to be Vic Trenton, whose wife Donna and son Tad were the characters trapped in a car by the rabid St. Bernard. They have also revealed that Rattlesnakes is going to be one of the twelve...

Horror is an endlessly broad genre that creates terror from diverse material. The genre’s depth can prompt audiences to question if gore and vicious murders are worse than systemic oppression and an impossibly-balanced class structure where the disenfranchised continually grow more helpless. It’s eerie how a blood-thirsty monster and societal strife can be equally destructive to someone’s future. Brazilian filmmaker Daniel Bandeira creates something extremely special in Property, a home invasion film that’s dense in class commentary.
Home invasion films have become one of horror’s most popular subgenres because a home is universal. The safety and security that’s found in one’s house is a fundamental necessity that everyone values, regardless of their class. It’s terrifying to consider losing this sense of sanctuary and the strongest home invasion horror movies tap into this primal fear and push it to uncomfortable places. At this...

By 1983, Stephen King had rocketed to the top of the publishing world within a fairly short period of time. His first novel, Carrie, had been published only nine years before but he was already considered the modern master of the horror novel. The adaptations of his work, Brian DePalma’s Carrie (1976), Tobe Hooper’s TV movie Salem’s Lot (1979), and Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) had only served to feed the fires of his popularity. King had become a cottage industry by the third year of the new decade and the three films based on his work released that year remain among the best connected to his name while exploring some of the greatest issues he grappled with in the early years of his career.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

In a career so far spanning 50 years, Stephen King has published 65 novels (with a 66th imminent) and more than 200 short stories. His books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, and have been regularly snapped up for film and TV adaptation. As a brand name, King is almost as prolific on screen as in print, with at least 60 movies (not even including the eight sequels to Children Of The Corn) and 50 shows to date, with more always incoming.
Cinematically, however, while some of the author’s adaptations are clear-eyed classics, the King association has not always been a guarantee of quality. In the early days, the gold rush to mine his back catalogue yielded more turkeys than treasure. So, with Rob Savage out this week (based on a 1973 short story in King’s _Night Shift collection), Empire have put together a list of the 15 greatest big-screen versions of the legendary scribe’s stories.

Whether it is because of chemicals in the water, scientific experiments gone wrong, or mother nature taking revenge, animals running amok has provided cinema with an endlessly entertaining series of films over the years. The hilarious hit comedy horror Cocaine Bear, inspired by the true story of a bear going on the rampage in the Chattahoochee National Forest after ingesting a stash of cocaine, might just be the craziest yet.

She last graced the screens in 2002's "Manna from Heaven" as Detective Dubrinski. Now, a little over 20 years later, renowned scream queen Shelley Duvall has re-entered the chat in Scott Goldberg's "The Forest Hills," set to release this month. This feature film is a take on Goldberg's 2007 short film of the same name, but that appears to be the only similarity as of right now. The 2007 short, alternately titled "Danielle's Revenge," takes place in Kentucky and is centered around two horror website admins in search of an urban legend.
The highly-anticipated 2023 version is set in the serenity of New York's Catskill region, where our protagonist Rico (Chiko Mendez) is recovering from a head injury, with Shelley Duvall playing the role of his mother. Stephen King horror films and his macabre I.P. have always done well in Hollywood— “The Shining,” “Carrie,” “Firestarter,” “Misery,” “Cujo,” “Pet Sematary,” and more—but there’s no denying a new King resurgence has happened in the last fifteen years with a lot of remakes some of them incredible successful (the “It” franchise), some sequels to classic works (“Doctor Sleep”), and much-anticipated adaptations that didn’t quite work (“The Dark Tower”).

Directed by Romero from a screenplay by King, Creepshow has the following synopsis:
Writer Stephen King and director George Romero. Like Dr. Frankenstein and his monster or Dracula and his blood-sucking harem, this is a team to be reckoned with. How can Amazon Prime Video followup the first season finale of its biggest series ever in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? The answer lies in its list of new releases for November 2022.
Understandably, Prime Video is probably pretty tired and won’t be opting for any more Middle-earth spectacle for awhile. In its place, however, are a couple of still intriguing Amazon Original series. British Western drama series The English is set to arrive on Nov. 11 to both Prime Video and BBC Two. Emily Blunt stars as a woman who heads to the American West in 1890 looking for revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son. Cool! Speaking of the English, the James Corden-starring Mammals also premieres on Nov. 11.

Exclusive: David Meunier (Justified) and Dee Wallace (Just Add Magic) have joined the cast of Fatal Attraction, the upcoming Paramount+ series that reimagines the classic 1980s psychosexual thriller film.
Meunier will portray Richard Macksey, a psychology professor at the university and Ellen’s (Alyssa Jirrels) thesis advisor, mentor, and friend, whose personal interest in the work and life of Carl Jung ignites Ellen’s own interest.
Wallace will portray Emma Rauch, who is described as open, friendly, chic, and interested but also sensitive to boundaries. She is a retired career woman, enthusiastic and helpful volunteer, mother of adult children, and a student of life— someone anyone but Alex (Lizzy Caplan) would be thrilled to have as their neighbor.

Jonas Govaerts unleashes his second directorial feature, "H4Z4RD," almost a decade after 2014's obscenely undervalued "Cub." He's been busy as a prolific music video director — roughy 20 or so credits between releases — which speaks to the breakneck style of auto-thriller "H4Z4RD." Conceptually, it mimics "Wheelman," as the camera stays within our protagonist's pimped-out whip, with the 2000s action-destruction zaniness of "Crank" with some of "Titane" and "Cujo" thrown in for good measure. It's combustibly chaotic, high-octane, and someone's stripped the narrative brakes too. Whether that's at an advantage or detriment will be made clear for audiences relatively early into Govaerts' car-crunching cinema.

Stephen King's name is synonymous with horror. He is one of the most prolific authors in history and his tales have, as is often the case with best-selling authors, gone on to inspire many adaptations over the years. Some good ("Cujo"), some bad ("The Dark Tower"), and some stone-cold cinematic classics ("The Shawshank Redemption"). But it was in 2017, when one of King's most beloved tales was finally brought to life on the big screen, that the king finally took his crown.
That is the year that saw Warner Bros. release the remake of "It," based on King's novel about the child-eating clown of the same name that had previously inspired a TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise. But that version,...

“Nope.” That’s the maddening morsel of a clue writer-director Jordan Peele gave audiences before unleashing his third horror flick into theaters on July 22: “Nope.”
Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, and Michael Wincott star in this science fiction horror outing set against the legacies of horse ranchers in Hollywood (we think). Although Peele’s latest project has been somewhat vague in its rollout, he’s not the first horror auteur to make their monosyllabic mark with a title that’s doggedly vexing and slyly sinister. Dating back to the earliest days of the movies, films such as “Noseferatu,” “Dracula,” “Freaks,” “Maniac,” “Bedlam,” “Godzilla,” “Rodan,” and more have kept things scary and succinct with titles that practically demand audiences venture into theaters to uncover the terrors behind these single word hints.

While aquatic horror specifically has a forever home firmly tucked into the summer months, there's something particularly (and twistedly) special about animal attack horror movies. From the absolutely ludicrous like the 1980 flick "Alligator," the Richard Harris-starring "Orca," and the so-bad-it's-good late-'80s romp "Slugs" to classic fare like "Jurassic Park," "Jaws," and "Cujo," there's genuinely something for everyone. Tensions are high as nature's mightiest (or slimiest) predators make quick work of their human prey, whether that's for a laugh, a political statement, or just a good old-fashioned scare-fest. And while the /Film team has a soft spot for virtually all entries in this cherished little subgenre, these 15 movies...

The prolific horror author stopped by Bloody Disgusting's The Losers' Club podcast this week, where he apparently let slip some exciting details about one of his upcoming stories. Stephen King first published "Pet Sematary" in 1983, a time when he — by his own description — was battling addiction. In his 2000 book "On Writing," King speaks frankly about his drinking and substance abuse throughout the '80s, and even claimed to not remember writing his 1982 novel "Cujo." His friends eventually staged an intervention, and King eventually became sober sometime in the late 1980s and has remained so to this day. His first novel after getting clean was "Needful Things" in 1991.

Only two years after starring in Joe Dante’s The Howling, Dee Wallace and Christopher Stone are face to snout with yet another snarling beast. This time it’s the rabies-infected St. Bernard of Lewis Teague’s Cujo. The film’s frantically suspenseful climax helped make it a modest success in 1983 (the fourth-highest grossing horror film of the year). Teague’s in-your-face action scenes were abetted by editor Neil Travis (Terminator 3) and cinematographer Jan De Bont (eleven years before his directorial debut with Speed).

"It's not a monster, it's just a doggy!" In 1983, film audiences were exposed to one of the scariest dogs ever put to screen: Cujo. In the film based on Stephen King's best-selling novel, a rabies-stricken St. Bernard terrorizes the town of Castle Rock, Maine -- including defenseless mom Donna (Dee Wallace) and her young son Tad (Danny Pintauro).
