Swen Temmel was born in Graz, Austria's second-largest city. He moved to America with his parents in 1997 and became a U.S. citizen in 2018. Starting school at Santa Monica Elementary and graduating from Malibu High, he quickly learned English and adapted to American culture. Swen completed a 2-year program at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, took classes at the Groundlings Theatre in Hollywood, and studied Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, whose alumni include Anthony Hopkins and Orlando Bloom.
