The remarkable, hyper-ambitious Material Girl who never stops re-inventing herself, Madonna has sold over three hundred million records and CDs to adoring fans worldwide. Her film career, however, is another story. Her performances have consistently drawn scathing or laughable reviews from film critics, and the films have usually had tepid, if any, success at the box office. Born Madonna Louise Ciccone in August 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, she moved to New York in 1978 and studied with renowned choreographer Alvin Ailey, joined up with the Patrick Hernandez Revue, formed a pop/dance band called Breakfast Club and began working with then-boyfriend Stephen Bray on recording several disco-oriented songs. New York producer/D.J. Mark Kamins passed her demo tapes to Sire Records in early 1982 and the rest is history. The 1980s was Madonna's boom decade, and she dominated the music charts with a succession of multimillion-selling albums, and her musical and fashion influence on young women was felt around the globe. Madonna first appeared on screen in two low-budget films marketed to an adolescent audience: A Certain Sacrifice (1979) and Vision Quest (1985). However, she scored a minor cult hit with Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) starring alongside spunky Rosanna Arquette. Madonna's next effort with then husband Sean Penn, Shanghai Surprise (1986), was savaged by critics, although the resilient star managed to somewhat improve her standing with her next two films, the offbeat Who's That Girl (1987) (although she did receive decidedly mixed reviews, they weren't as negative as those of her previous effort) and the quirky Damon Runyon-inspired Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989). The big-budget and star-filled Dick Tracy (1990) had her playing bad girl "Breathless Mahoney" flirting with Warren Beatty, but the epic failed to catch fire at the box office. Taking an earthier role, Madonna was much more entertaining alongside Tom Hanks and Geena Davis in A League of Their Own (1992), a story about female baseball players during W.W.II. However, she again drew the wrath of critics with the sexy whodunit Body of Evidence (1992). Several other minor screen roles followed, then Madonna starred as Eva Perón in Evita (1996), a fairly well received screen adaptation of the hugely successful Broadway musical, for which she received a Golden Globe for Best Actress. The Material Girl stayed away from the movie cameras for several years, returning to co-star in the lukewarm romantic comedy The Next Best Thing (2000), followed by the painful Swept Away (2002). If those films weren't bad enough, she was woefully miscast as a vampish fencing instructor in the James Bond adventure Die Another Day (2002). After finally admitting that her acting days were over, Madonna began a directing career in 2008 with the barely remembered Filth and Wisdom (2008) and a year later she reunited with Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991) director Alek Keshishian to develop a script about the relationship between the Duke of Windsor and the Duchess of Windsor that led to his abdication in 1936: the result, a movie named W.E. (2011), starring James D'Arcy and Andrea Riseborough as the infernal but still royal couple, was released in 2011 to lukewarm critics but it gathered one Oscar nomination for costumes and won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for "Masterpiece".- Actress

Designated the "heartbeat" of R&B during the 1980s and 1990s, Luther Vandross led a productive singing and songwriting life before to this preeminence. The soul balladeer's strong commitment to the art of music continued on its Grammy-winning course, even after an acute stroke in 2003 left him severely incapacitated and unable to continue public appearances.
Luther Ronzoni Vandross, Jr. was born in Manhattan, New York on April 20, 1951, the baby of four children. His father, also named Luther, was an upholsterer who died of diabetes when the singer was just eight years old. Despite this sadness, his mother, a practical nurse, made sure that music was prevalent in the Vandross household, particularly gospel, soul and doo-wop. Luther was influenced by his older sister Patricia, who became a member of a doo-wop group called The Crests, and scored with the 1958 single "Sixteen Candles".
In high school, Luther formed his own musical group and first started to write and compose. His first big songwriting break came with "Everybody Rejoice (Can You Feel a Brand New Day)", which was used for the Broadway stage and film productions of "The Wiz". He also sang in the film's choir selections. In the 1970s, while still working his way up, Luther voiced commercial jingles (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and provided backup vocals on tour and in session work for such notables as David Bowie, Chaka Khan, Barbra Streisand, Carly Simon, Bette Midler and Donna Summer. After performing with a short-lived singing group called "Luther", which was formed to include the talented musicians Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, who later formed the group, Chic, Luther returned to the background and took part in various projects for Quincy Jones and others. Insisting on creative control, Luther had a difficult time finding the right contract for himself in record-making.
At age 30, he finally recorded his first solo album with the No. 1 R&B and "Top 20" pop chartmaker, "Never Too Much". He continued steadily with such albums as "Forever, for Always, for Love" (1982) and "Give Me the Reasons" (1986), but it wasn't until 1989 that he had his first "Top 10" single with "Here and Now" (No. 6), which finally placed him securely on the love song pedestal. Such other No. 1 R&B singles would include "Stop to Love", "There's Nothing Better than Love" and "Any Love".
A minimalist stylist whose eloquent, velvety renditions were accentuated by spot-on phrasing and effortless vocal control, his image quickly led to such unwelcome sobriquets as "master of bedroom music" and the restrictive label of being a "ladies only" act. He was also besieged by a wealth of other personal and health problems. A binge eater, his weight fluctuated through his career with his 6' 3" frame handling a diversity of 190 to 340 pounds at various stages, aggravated by constant career pressures and a roller coaster personal and romantic life.
The never-married crooner was besieged by persistent reports that he was gay (he never denied or acknowledged the reports), rumors that threatened his ladies' man career. Moreover, Luther suffered from a mild form of diabetes, the disease that took the life of his father. In 1986, he was the driver in automobile crash that killed one passenger (a close friend) with a charge of vehicular manslaughter finally reduced to reckless driving (speeding).
The 1990s seemed, career-wise, stronger than ever again with a Top 40 hit dueting with Mariah Carey on "Endless Love" (1994) and the release of his No. 1 R&B signature version of "Always and Forever" (1994).
On camera, film and television acting appearances include a cameo in Robert Townsend's film The Meteor Man (1993) and episodes of "Beverly Hills: 90210" (as himself) and "Touched by An Angel". A documentary, Luther Vandross: Always and Forever (1994), is also available. Through his career, Luther continued to write and produce for other artists including Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Teddy Pendergrass, Cheryl Lynn and Aretha Franklin. Following his massive April 2003 stroke, he made a phantom return to the spotlight with the release of his CD "Dance With My Father" (2003), which was recorded before his illness. At the awards show, the absent Luther was rewarded with four Grammy Awards, including song of the year. The success also gave him his first No. 1 album on the pop chart and four NAACP Image Awards.
The beloved 54-year-old musician died of a heart attack on July 1, 2005 at the JFK Medical Center in Edision, New Jersey, and was survived by his Evangelist mother, Mary Ida Vandross, who was instrumental in promoting her son's last work to Grammy glory following his severe debilitation.- Actor

It all started with a missed opportunity. Rick was born and grew up in Bay City Michigan. He had a Drama Teacher in High School, who all but begged that class clown to take his class. Evidently, he saw something in Rick that he couldn't see himself. He missed a big opportunity, after later learning his drama teacher ran the stage and theater circuit for three cities. Later in life, Rick was bitten by the acting bug. After watching a lot of movies, and when he got hurt at work, he was off on a medical leave for almost a year. He had to have both shoulders rebuilt. During recovery, he auditioned for a dinner theater, requesting a small role, but wound up with a lead. He enjoyed the part, but had to have a coat draped over his shoulder to hide the sling and bandages. Rick's played a few roles in film and on stage locally. He currently enjoys acting and also screenwriting. He has a portfolio screenplays registered with the WGAw. He's also directed and produced, which seems to be his greater talent, as people tend to naturally gravitate toward him, making him very easy to work with.- Director

Rick Lindland was born in Bay City, Michigan. His family moved to Studio City, Los Angeles from a Chicago suburb, Deerfield, when he was four years old. While he was in high-school, he tried out for a professional boxing gym in Van Nuys and became an amateur fighter for Greg Goossen from the renowned Ten Goose Professional Boxing. One night after a boxing match, he was approached at Jerry's Famous Deli by two female agents and was signed by their agency. Soon afterwards, he was signed by Ford Models, and began working as a model, traveling to Milan, New York, Athens, and the other fashion capitals of the world. Rick decided to pursue acting, and landed a small role in "General Hospital." Shortly afterwards, he read for a part to play the lead opposite Rose McGowan in Jawbreaker (1999). Although he came close to playing opposite Rose, the producers instead gave him the role of the "Auto Shop Stud" opposite Judy Greer. Working with the young director, Darren Stein, and the young, energetic cast of "Jawbreaker", inspired Rick to study acting seriously. He began to study with a woman who came out of The Actors Studio, and learned "The Method". Through this acting approach, Rick made many self-discoveries and created a boxing story which he turned into a screenplay entitled N.B.T. (2003). Taking on the role of both the producer and the lead, Rick brought Jimmy Nickerson (stunt coordinator for "Raging Bull" and "Rocky I&II") onto the project, and saw his screenplay come to life.- Martin Ciccone was born on 9 August 1957 in Bay City, Michigan, USA.

- She was one of Mack Sennett's famous Bathing Beauties. Blonde, blue-eyed Harriet Hammond graced the screen for little more than a decade, having abandoned earlier designs of becoming a concert pianist. She entered films in 1918 and made her name as an athletic knockabout comedienne in two-reel shorts. Harriet appeared with most of the great Sennett comics, including Charles Murray, Chester Conklin, Ford Sterling, Ben Turpin and Billy Bevan. She left Sennett (and slapstick comedy) in 1921 and free-lanced for several years. Commanding leads and second leads in crime films and melodramas, she was now paid a handsome salary (by any standards) of $1000 a week. Sometime prior to 1923, she was injured when dynamite exploded too close to her. Out of work for more than a year, she sued the studio. In the end, neither her career, nor (presumably) her looks quite recovered from the mishap. Sources at the time commented, that she now had a somewhat tragic aura about her. There were several more starring roles for Harriet in the mid- and late 20's. Possibly the best of these was opposite Lew Cody in the romantic comedy Man and Maid (1925), based on a novel by Elinor Glyn. By 1928, Harriet's career was essentially over and she retired after a bit part in her only talkie in 1930.
