While the Kardashian-Jenner family prepares for the big premiere of The Kardashians Season 5, Kim Kardashian is getting some backlash for one outfit she chose. Undoubtedly, some of the fashion-forward risks she makes sometimes don’t impress fans. In particular, fans watch Kim slink into clothes many consider “torturous” and even “pathetic.”
The Kardashians Season 5 Is Almost Here
As the days fly by, The Kardashians premiere is on a short countdown to the new episode release on May 23. Undeniably, it is a big event in the Kardashian-Jenner world and many fans are eager to tune in. Although it is unknown if there will be a Season 6, Hulu/Disney are preparing to launch the last season of the famous family’s current hefty contract. Unmistakably, momager, Kris Jenner, is most likely working magic to renegotiate future episodes. But in the meantime, Kim Kardashian is getting some pushback for her fashion statement that fell flat with fans.

Stylist Law Roach revealed on “The Cutting Room Floor” podcast that Zendaya still hasn’t worn looks from five fashion houses after they refused to dress her early in her career.
“I would write the big five. I would write Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Dior, and they would all say, ‘No, try again next year. She’s too green. She’s not on our calendar,’” Roach said during the interview.
“I still have the receipts,” he continued. “By the time she got to [the cover of] American Vogue [in 2017], she still had never worn any of those designers. She still hasn’t.”
Roach, who has styled the “Challengers” and “Dune” star since she was 14, clarified that Zendaya has worn designs by the “big five” in editorial shoots, but never in public or during red carpet appearances.
“She still has never worn Dior on a carpet. She still has never worn Chanel on a carpet.

Zendaya made a spectacular comeback to the Met Gala on Monday! Following a five-year absence, Zendaya returned as a co-chair for the 2024 Met Gala, joining Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny. Before this, her last Met Gala appearance was in 2019 when she dazzled the crowd in her magical Tommy Hilfiger Cinderella ball gown.
The 27-year-old actress delivered more than I could have imagined at the 2024 Met Gala, showcasing not one or two but three exquisite outfits appropriate for a co-chair. Her latest outing came following a whirlwind press tour for Challengers, where she once again demonstrated her mastery of method dressing by donning chic tennis-inspired looks.
In true Zendaya and, of course, Law Roach fashion, they did not let fans, including me, down.

Kim Kardashian arrived at the 2024 Met Gala in style, and her look created a lot of chatter among Kardashian-Jenner fans. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute‘s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition influenced this year’s theme, “The Garden of Time.” Here’s what Kardashian said about her controversial choice to throw a cardigan over her dazzling dress.
Kim Kardashian explained her controversial 2024 Met Gala look
Kim Kardashian looked stunning at the 2024 Met Gala, though her look was controversial. She wore a silver custom John Galliano Margiela couture dress with an ultra-cinched waist, showing off Kardashian’s signature curvy figure. While speaking to Vogue, Kardashian revealed that she wanted Galliano to create a custom look for her for the Met Gala for four or five years.

Did Anna Wintour add more tables to this year’s Met Gala? Because the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art felt especially crowded on Monday evening, May 6, teeming with Hollywood A-listers wearing a plethora of artful looks. And while not everyone leaned into the evening’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” for the most part the stars acquitted themselves well in looks that ranged from quiet elegance to over the top and outrageous.
Even with the nature-centric theme, the night surprisingly was highlighted by some stars in neutrals. Nicole Kidman offered a great backstory for her black and white Balenciaga gown, while Cardi B served up the night’s best drama in a Windowsen black gown that almost spanned the width of the museum steps. Flesh-toned gowns likewise were abundant, including Pamela Anderson in Oscar de la Renta and Lizzo in a custom floral-inspired corset gown by Paris-based designer Victor Weinsanto.

With several gowns reportedly being considered until almost the last moment, Zendaya’s choice for the 2024 Met Gala ultimately was a custom haute couture look from Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano as well as a surprise archival look — also by Galliano.
In the hours before the Challengers star and Met Gala co-chair arrived on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the rumor mill had kicked into high gear about who she might be wearing. Multiple gowns were mentioned as contenders, a sign of the power Zendaya wields in the fashion industry.
But her first choice indeed reflected the blend of 19th century romance and modernity that Galliano creates like perhaps no other designer, with elements that subtly evoke the gala’s theme of “The Garden of Time.” The emerald green and electric blue gown is a custom design made of organza and sage-hued lamé crafted...

Bad Bunny is in the building.
The global superstar and Met Gala co-chair, who has official duties at the event alongside Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez and Chris Hemsworth, turned up early for fashion’s biggest night and turned heads in a bespoke Maison Margiela Artisanal look by John Galliano.
Per the house, Galliano created a bespoke haute couture look composed of a midnight blue barathea wool smoking jacket with black grosgrain lapels and red silk ribbon inseam lampasse. He accessorized the look with black leather gloves, black silk socks and a midnight blue foam hat enveloped in midnight blue stocking material as well as a black barathea wool flower bouquet. He paired the suit with black leather custom-made Tabi boots worn with spats that were created by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.
Though it’s not visible from the look below, Margiela reports that underneath it all, he’s sporting a custom black satin corset.

Two of spring’s starriest releases arrive on digital platforms this week. Neither was a commercial sensation, but each attracted enough buzz to signal long shelf lives ahead. Watch one when you get home from seeing “Challengers.”
The contender to watch this week: “Love Lies Bleeding“
For her sophomore feature, Rose Glass, one of the coolest directors working today, made an erotic lesbian crime thriller starring Kristen Stewart as an ’80s gym manager who falls hard for a bodybuilder (Katy O’Brian), not realizing her new lady has ties to her estranged gangster father (a long-haired Ed Harris). It’s an electric movie oozing with noirish grime, but it wasn’t quite the runaway hit A24 was probably hoping for, collecting a modest $8.7 million at the worldwide box office despite Stewart’s star power. Still, “Love Lies Bleeding” seems destined for cult-favorite status, and Glass has gained a lifetime’s worth of clout.

Kevin Macdonald's High & Low – John Galliano is now showing exclusively on Mubi in many countries.High & Low – John Galliano. What are the limits of forgiveness? Is making a documentary about a disgraced public figure, in which that remorseful person is allowed to try to explain their actions, inherently an act of damage-control propaganda? Or can it be a way of letting them tighten their own noose? Since its premiere at Telluride last September, Kevin Macdonald’s High & Low – John Galliano (2023) has fueled such heated conversations. Leaving many of its inquiries open-ended, this documentary is about neither complete condemnation nor exoneration. Instead, Macdonald tries to make sense of the enigma at his film’s center: a man who does not deny committing a hate crime over a decade ago, but who still claims to have no memory of the events or how he got there.Widely admired for his audacious style and designs,...

Kevin Macdonald’s finely balanced portrait of the disgraced Dior designer, on Mubi from Friday, is the newest arrival on a catwalk of fashion industry movies, from Funny Face to Zoolander
For those who bleat on about the iniquities of supposed “cancel culture”, the career of British fashion designer John Galliano is a useful counterpoint. Sacked in 2011 as the creative director of Christian Dior after an appalling incident of antisemitic abuse on his part, he spent two years in the wilderness before being hired by Oscar de la Renta and subsequently Maison Margiela, where he has been for a decade. A-listers still wear his gowns on red carpets. Life goes on. Kevin Macdonald’s documentary High & Low: John Galliano (streaming on Mubi from 26 April) chronicles Galliano’s rise and fall and rise with a more distanced, critical eye than you may expect from a film co-produced by Vogue publisher Condé Nast.

High & Low: John Galliano review – Kevin Macdonald’s candid look at the fashion designer’s implosion
The film-maker’s frank, even-handed documentary assesses the fallout from the former Dior creative director’s antisemitic tirade and his standing today
There’s an argument to be made that we have heard everything we ever need to hear from John Galliano, the subject of this knotty, complex documentary portrait. That after the formerly celebrated and adored British fashion designer was filmed, booze-sodden, bitter and spewing an antisemitic tirade at strangers from his preferred corner seat in La Perle, his local bar in Paris, his legacy should have been buried and the attention of the fashion world should have moved on to other, less radioactively compromised figures. But, as the Washington Post journalist Robin Givhan drily observes: “Fashion has a very short memory”, particularly, she adds, when it comes to well-connected white men with powerful friends.
Having been ignominiously sacked from his role as creative director at Dior in 2011, Galliano went to ground,...

It’s hard knowing what to make of Kevin Macdonald’s High & Low: John Galliano. It concerns the controversial fashion designer, his unexpected rise (“the son of a plumber” from Gibraltar), his stratospheric success, his catastrophic fall. For those who may not know: Galliano became the creative director of Christian Dior Se in the mid-90s (Givenchy before that) and developed a style that was both celebrated and imitated by the industry at large. The man himself was regarded as a genius in his own time, and he worked himself (and his right-hand man Steven Robinson) to the bone. His runways were an event unto themselves. The word “revolutionary” was apparently used. Then, in 2011, Galliano’s career came to a screeching halt when he was caught on video at a Paris bar badgering fellow patrons with racist and antisemitic hate speech. He was swiftly fired from his position and arrested for the remarks.

A-listers talk about the flamboyant designer but the film doesn’t press the man himself enough on his most jarring incidents
The strange, and strangely unedifying, story of fashion designer John Galliano is retold by film-maker Kevin Macdonald, who covers the ground and states the facts in an impeccably professional way. Yet this film feels constrained by the obvious need to be diplomatic with Galliano and his A-list supporters to whom Macdonald has intimate access.
Galliano is the brilliant Gibraltarian-British designer whose flamboyant designs electrified the world of couture in the 90s; he was creative director of both Givenchy and Dior in Paris. The acclaim was dazzling but he became seriously overworked, had issues with alcohol and drug use, was under emotional strain following the death of his assistant and friend Steven Robinson, and badly shaken by Alexander McQueen taking his own life. Kevin Macdonald’s High & Low: John Galliano is another hagiography in an increasingly long list of public relations exercises masquerading as substantial fashion profiles. Except this documentary is a more perverse exercise in self-celebration than its predecessors, as it shamelessly announces from the very start that it’s an attempt at atonement for disgraced designer John Galliano, who was widely condemned in 2011 for racist and antisemitic rants.
High & Low opens with the case that triggered Galliano’s public downfall, all but promising that it will confront his demons head on and leave no stone unturned. Instead, it enlists Galliano’s high-profile friends and former colleagues—among them Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Penélope Cruz, Charlize Theron, and, of course, Anna Wintour—to make the case that it wasn’t really “John” talking at the Paris café La Perle when he used expressions such as “fucking ugly Jewish bitch...

Continuing the naked dress look favored by red-carpet stars in the last year, Miley Cyrus made a major impression on the red carpet for the 2024 Grammys.
The “Flowers” and “Used to Be Young” singer, nominated for six 2024 Grammy Awards, arrived for the show at downtown Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena wearing a see-through, net-like dress made of 14,000 gold safety pins. Arranged geometrically, the pins created a sort of cone bra effect of two circles up top as well as a thong-like shape below. The look is a custom creation by designer John Galliano for Maison Margiela, the once-cancelled, now-resurgent fashion genius who is the subject of an upcoming documentary, High & Low, debuting in March. His recent Maison Margiela couture show has been a subject of fascination ever since it was presented on Jan. 25, from its decadent Parisian looks to the porcelain-doll makeup created by Pat McGrath.

John Galliano, 63, the creative director of Maison Martin Margiela, had the tough task of closing the Paris haute couture season (which has seen stunning shows from such houses as Valentino and Schiaparelli), a challenge he met with an extremely fascinating show. It was an extraordinary portrayal of Paris’ famous historical figures that seemed to have stepped out of an Émile Zola novel.
Galliano presented Margiela’s new Spring Summer 2024 artisanal collection inside an abandoned, vaulted-ceiling venue along the Seine, transformed into a decadent bistro where a range of French archetypes took center stage, from the shapely and brazen courtesans of the past — such as Madame Pompadour or Jeanne du Barry — to the sensual and devilish Moulin Rouge dancers, as well as nocturnal gamblers and cat burglars.

One viewing of “High & Low – John Galliano, “a documentary chronicling the impressive rise of British fashion designer John Galliano and his equally jarring fall from grace, should be more than sufficient to convince even the most uneducated of the influence he’s held throughout the industry; bolstered by a plentiful amount of talking head interviews from celebrity associates Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz and an abundance of footage showcasing model after model walking the runway in the apparel he brought to life, it’s clear how the man commanded a wealth of respect and love from those who adorned his garments and knew him as both a designer of inspired attire and a dear friend to those who considered themselves as such.

Kevin Macdonald’s moving 2018 bio-doc, Whitney, did a great job of fortifying Whitney Houston’s legacy while wiping away the smear of the predatory celebrity culture that made a mockery of one of contemporary pop’s most exceptional talents during the worst and most public period of her drug addiction. Another price-of-fame subject, disgraced British fashion designer John Galliano, is a trickier prospect that does the director no favors.
If you come to this film looking for a brisk overview of his achievements in couture, you might find High & Low more than serviceable. John Galliano loomed large over the world of fashion throughout the 1990s and early aughts. As the creative director of Givenchy and Dior, Galliano was widely admired for his bold, barrier-pushing style and his sensual, elegant designs. But Galliano’s career imploded after videos emerged of him in 2010 and 2011 speaking admiringly of Adolf Hitler and launching into an antisemitic and racist diatribe, shocking the patrons of a Parisian cafe. It was, in retrospect, an early example of “cancel culture,” one that makes Galliano’s rise and fall instructive in light of the similar public reckonings that many Hollywood figures have faced in recent years.
Kevin Macdonald’s fascinating new documentary, “High & Low — John Galliano,” uses the fallen fashion icon to examine the limits of forgiveness, as well as the possibility of redemption. Galliano, who was heavily intoxicated when he made his comments, is sober now and says he’s worked...

Google “forgiving John Galliano.” I’ll wait.
That’s quite a list of headlines, huh? “How Fashion Forgave John Galliano.” “Why Won’t People Forgive John Galliano?” “Should John Galliano Be Forgiven?” “Can We Forgive John Galliano Already?” Those are just within the first five results.
With hindsight, the-then Dior creative director was the first to really feel the brunt of today’s so-called “cancel culture” — and with good reason. His comments from December 2010 at Parisian Cafe La Perle, captured via smartphone in a way that vulgar remarks could not have been beforehand and released only a couple months later after yet another altercation, were truly vile. He spoke about his love of Hitler, his hatred of Jews, and his seeming approval of the Holocaust.
What Kevin Macdonald’s riveting, empathetic documentary “High & Low: John Galliano” goes to show is that the one person who really doesn’t remember those comments is…...

One of the primary charms of the small but mighty Telluride Film Festival has always been its chance meetings. Sharing a gondola ride with an auteur. Trading theater line gossip with an exec. Reaching for the same hat at that shop on Colorado Ave. as an Oscar winner (it looks better on her, obviously).
But this year, thanks to Hollywood’s dual strikes, Telluride arrives with a high potential for awkwardness. And that’s because everybody in the business … kind of hates each other right now. At least judging by social media, picket-line signs and dueling press statements.
Telluride kicks off its 50th annual festival on Thursday in the Rockies, with an extra day of programming ending Monday and a slate of Oscar hopefuls including the first public screenings of films like Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers (Focus Features), Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn (Amazon) and George C. Wolfe’s Rustin...
