Majandra Delfino, who just exited the ABC/20th TV comedy pilot Keep Calm And Karey On where she had a supporting role, was quickly cast as a lead in another 20th TV comedy pilot, Dana Klein’s CBS comedy Friends With Better Lives, which is directed by James Burrows. The multi-camera project, from 20th Century Fox TV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, revolves around six 30-something friends who each think the other has it better. Delfino, repped by Apa and Ziffren Bittenham, will play one of them, Andi, an attractive and vulnerable mother of an infant and 3-year-old twins who is married to Bobby (Kevin Connolly) and is best friends with Jules (Brooklyn Decker) and Kate. Nicky Whelan has joined TBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot Do It Yourself, written by Walt Becker and Rob Long and directed by James Widdoes. It tells the story of Nick Porter (Ben Rappaport), a...

Outsourced star Ben Rappaport is set as the lead of another workplace comedy, TBS pilot Do It Yourself. Bill Engvall is co-starring in the multi-camera project written by Walt Becker and Rob Long and directed by James Widdoes. Do It Yourself tells the story of Nick Porter (Rappaport), a 20-something laid-off math teacher who finds himself thrust into the blue collar world when he gets a job at that most American of retail institutions: the big box home supply store. Engvall plays his co-worker Dale, an executive with 30 years of experience who was once a senior vice president at Circuit City but has been reduced to minimum wage since his company went belly-up. The two join previously cast Melora Hardin and Ryan McPartlin. Rappaport, repped by Gersh, Invictus Entertainment and attorney Rick Genow, recently made his Broadway debut in Picnic and will next be seen in feature The Brass Teapot.

★★☆☆☆ Like the life of Nick Porter (Will Ferrell), the central character round whose mid-life crises Everything Must Go (2010) revolves, the directorial debut from Dan Rush ambles about with no real direction. Even solid - all be it brief - support from Laura Dern and a sympathetic performance from Rebecca Hall cannot save this tiresome study of broken relationships from wallowing in its own self-pity.

Hey everyone! This week there's two different release days! Hanna and Everything Must Go come out on Tues! X-Men First Class comes out on Fri! Here's some info on them for you all as always.
Hanna
Raised by her father, an ex-cia man, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna's upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own. As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.
This was a one time watch. Not as much action as I had hoped for.
*Blu-Ray has a second ending if you don't like the first.

When 15-year-old Emma lands a competitive spot on a young women’s equestrian acrobatics team, she is taken under the wing of her slightly older peer Cassandra. Obsessed with strength and control, Emma covets Cassandra’s natural grace and poise, while Cassandra in turn silently desires more than just Emma’s discipline. The psychological stakes of their friendship intensify as the two jockey for top position, and loyalty is traded for unbridled power. A depressingly funny new preview clip from Will Ferrell's upcoming dram-edy, Everything Must Go, has just been released online. Written and directed by novice filmmaker Dan Rush, the movie is based on Raymond Carver's short story "Why Don't You Dance?" The story follows career salesman Nick Porter (Ferrell), who gets fired from his job for falling off the wagon and then returns home to find that his wife has also dumped him, leaving him—and all of his possessions—out in the cold. With no income and no place to live, Nick cracks a beer and reluctantly holds a yard sale on the very spot where his wife deposited his belongings.

The new indie comedy Everything Must Go starring Will Ferrel now has a poster and a trailer. The story follows a man (Ferrell) who, after being laid off, decides to sell all of his possessions in one huge yard sale. Ferrell has always played the loud-mouthed, borderline-obnoxious character that’s usually pretty eccentric. That doesn’t seem to be the case here as Ferrell’s character seems to be more down to Earth. This role is very reminiscent of his role in Stranger Than Fiction. The film opened up at the Toronto Film Festival last year and received pretty good reviews.
The film also stars Rebecca Hall, Michael Peña, Laura Dern, Stephen Root and Christopher Jordan Wallace. Everything Must Go is currently set to hit theaters on May 13, 2011. Check out the trailer after the jump.

While he’s usually to be found starring in big laugh-fests like The Other Guys, Will Ferrell is also a fan of cropping up in smaller, more serious (but darkly comic) roles. Such was the case with Stranger than Fiction and now Everything Must Go, which has just pushed its first trailer out on to the web. Go finds Ferrell as Nick Porter, a corporate salesman experiencing the worst day of his life. He’s fired from his job (and his attempt at revenge on his nonplussed paymasters goes somewhat wrong). He returns home to find that his wife has left him and, in doing so, has changed the locks on their house and dumped all of his possessions on the front lawn. The only way for Nick to stay around – and to keep the more important items safe – is to hold an impromptu yard sale. In deep despair, Nick...

In late 2009 Dan Rush started turning Raymond Carver's short story Why Don't You Dance? into a film called Everything Must Go, starring Will Farrell in a very rare dramatic turn. He plays an alcoholic who, in the same day, loses his job and is thrown out by his wife. With his possessions scattered on the lawn of his former home, he spends a week living out in the open and confronting his problems. There's now a trailer for the film, so you can get a taste of how that all goes down. The film premiered at Tiff last year and was generally well-received, though there were reviews that said Will Ferrell's acting wasn't quite up to the task of dredging the depths of his character. While I won't go so far as to say the trailer affirms that criticism, I will say that the way this footage is...

Raymond Carver‘s short story Why Don’t You Dance? has been adapted into a feature film by Dan Rush and now we have the first trailer. I saw the independent film starring Will Ferrell at Tiff last fall and enjoyed it. The script is sharp, but Rush’s one-note and bland direction puts it into the standard quirky indie category we’ve seen over and over again. It’s still worth checking out for those Ferrell naysayers that believe he has worn out his welcome. Supporting performances from Rebecca Hall and Laura Dern are also solid. Check out the trailer below via Apple and read my full Tiff review here.

From one of the hottest scripts in Hollywood, Dan Rush‘s Everything Must Go, recently premiered here at Tiff. Based on Raymond Carver‘s short story Why Don’t You Dance?, the film follows Nick Porter (Will Ferrell). He is an alcoholic who has lost his job, wife and home. After his wife put all of Nick’s belongings on their front lawn, he has five days to get rid of them.
The film is filled with rich visual storytelling. Whether it is Porter’s bike falling over or recycle bings getting crushed as he tries to jump the fence to get into his house, these little moments add a wealth of life to his character
Ferrell’s dramatic performance delivers as an aimless man who has nothing left. He has subtle comedic moments, but there are no over-the-top monologues or ridiculous phrases found in his normal McKay affairs.

#3. Everything Must Go The Gist: Based on a Raymond Carver short story, this centers on a relapsed alcoholic named Nick Porter (Will Ferrell) who after 16 years spent devising motivational speeches that promise certain success is abruptly fired. He returns home to discover his wife has left him, changed the locks on their home and dumped all his possessions on the front yard. Director: Dan Rush -- Sales Agent: Im Global Selling Point: I could see just about every head buyer having an interest in acquiring this title -- not only is it working from a great first, Black List nominated screenplay, but if Will Ferrell hits the right notes sort of like what he did in Stranger Than Fiction, then this will be the most hotly contested indie film at Tiff. Suited For: Distributor willing to spend the money to pitch this as a "different" Ferrell vehicle. ...

In addition to the previously announced titles, Tiff just keeps adding more great stuff to their line-up.
The most recent announcement (I’m sure there are more to come), includes a couple of interesting titles along with a couple of heavy weights. Up front is Danny Boyle’s story of survival 127 Hours starring James Franco, Casey Affleck’s bizarre biopic/drama I’m Still Here (trailer), Guillem Morales’ great looking Spanish thriller Julia’s Eyes (trailer) and Matt Reeves’ remake Let Me In (trailer).
Other titles which sound promising include Mitch Glazer’s Passion Play, a fable starring Mickey Rourke and sex bomb Megan Fox, Álex de la Iglesia’s insane parody about the Spanish Civil War with clowns The Last Circus and Benoît Jacquot’s Deep in the Woods.
All of the new additions after the break.

Though not serious, per se, Will Ferrell will be showing of his less manic side at the Toronto International Film Festival - his second appearance at the big fest, surprisingly - as the leading man in Dan Rush's Everything Must Go.
Based on a short story by Raymond Carver, the film follows Ferrell as a man who opts to live his life as a sort of permanent yard sale - literally - when his job and family fall apart. Here's the brief synopsis from Tiff.
After 16 years devising motivational speeches that promise certain success, Nick Porter (Will Ferrell) is abruptly fired. He returns home to discover his wife has left him, changed the locks on their home and dumped all his possessions on the front yard. Nick puts it all on the line - or, more properly, on the lawn - with an absurdly escalating garage sale that becomes a unique strategy for survival.

James Franco in 127 Hours
Photo: Fox Searchlight Things are moving at a quick clip when it comes to the Toronto International Film Festival so you can be assured several more posts like this will be arriving in the next few days as I have several images from all of the films that will be showing at the festival and will begin debuting them as things progress. This post offers looks at four more...
First, Danny Boyle's 127 Hours starring James Franco, Clemence Poesy (In Bruges, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Amber Tamblyn (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and Kate Mara (Brokeback Mountain).
I already talked a lot about this film in today's earlier updated line-up announcement so you can read up on it there if you wish. Here I will just tell you I have the brand new image directly above and the following synopsis provided by...

Hollywoodnews.com: We reported a few weeks ago that Will Ferrell was bringing a serious drama, “Everything Must Go,” to the Toronto International Film Festival in September. He mentioned it on the “Charlie Rose Show” while promoting “The Other Guys,” and admitted to the talk-show host that this would be a complete departure for him as an actor.
Now we’re starting to see what the other side of funnyman Ferrell looks like.
The first images of Ferrell’s latest drama have surfaced over at Ioncinema.com. In the film, the “Saturday Night Live” alum plays Nick Porter, a happily married motivational speaker who comes home one day to find his wife (Rebecca Hall) has left him and changed the locks on their home. Inspired to make drastic changes, Porter conducts an increasingly bizarre garage sale on his front lawn, putting his possessions – and his stagnant life – on the line.

A film that is among the items at the top of my list for coverage at this year's Tiff is Dan Rush's directorial debut. Everything Must Go is a Black List script that placed high up as one of the top reads and unproduced screenplays (so it should have plenty of buyers in the aud) - Rush comes from a music video director background and he made commercials for such companies as Sony, Major League Baseball, Dell Computers, Bell Atlantic and Discovery Networks before working in feature film development at Tristar Pictures. After 16 years devising motivational speeches that promise certain success, Nick Porter (Will Ferrell) is abruptly fired.
