After reports that an upside-down American flag had flown outside the residence of Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito during the period surrounding Jan. 6, 2021, the conservative justice blamed the flag’s placement on his wife Martha-Ann — claiming her actions were a result of a clash over a neighbor’s anti-Trump yard sign and a verbal insult.
Now, the Alito’s neighbors — Emily Baden and her then-boyfriend, now husband — are disputing the Alitos’ version of events, according to the New York Times, which reviewed text messages and a police call to corroborate the claims.

Protesters Shouted Down Maga Lawmakers Outside Trump Trial Courthouse: ‘Go Home Carpetbagging Fools’
A crowd of anti-Donald Trump protesters repeatedly shouted down a group of Maga lawmakers outside of a lower Manhattan courthouse while a press briefing was taking place.
Last week, several of the former president’s allies made an appearance to rail against Trump’s prosecution in his New York hush money trial and emphasized their devotion to him.
The group included South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, former New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik, ex-Trump administration official Kash Patel, Trump senior adviser Jason Miller and Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Georgia).
When Trump’s supporters gathered to talk with the press and deliver their statements of support for the former president, protesters in the crowd jeered at and heckled them.
The police tried to keep the protesters at bay, but their sounds drowned out the Maga lawmakers from declaring support for Trump.

Update: Closing arguments in Donald Trump’s hush money trial ended tonight almost 11 hours after they began, with a prosecutor telling jurors that the former president’s “intent to defraud … could not be any clearer,” according to multiple news outlets.
Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass, wrapping just ahead of an 8 p.m. deadline set by Judge Juan Merchan, also ran into one last objection from the defense when he invoked a statement that Trump famously made a year before his inauguration as president: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose voters.”
Merchan upheld the defense objection and Steinglass later moved on to thanking the jury for their time and attention. Six weeks after the first jury candidates walked into the lower Manhattan courtroom, they are expected to begin their deliberations on Wednesday after receiving Merchan’s instructions on the law.

In a local TV interview, former President Donald Trump revealed a list of four people he is considering as vice presidential candidates.
In an interview with News 12 News Jersey, following his campaign rally in The Bronx, New York, political reporter, Tara Rosenblum asked if Trump was considering former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who declared last week that she would vote for him in the 2024 presidential election.
“A big night last night, Nikki Haley making her first public remarks since dropping out of the race,” the reporter asked. “She said that Joe Biden has been a catastrophe, and she’s voting for you. I’m sure those were welcome remarks for you, but they also left a lot of people wondering if there is room for her on your team or, better yet, your ticket.”

New York prosecutors and Donald Trump’s defense team engaged in a verbal tug-of-war over Michael Cohen’s testimony during their closing arguments on Tuesday.
The former president’s former fixer was the subject of the majority of both summations, with both sides freely taking jabs at the other as the defense attempted to paint Cohen as an unreliable witness, while prosecutors reminded jurors it was Trump, not Cohen, on trial.

A Shenandoah County, Virginia, school board voted to restore the names of Confederate military leaders to a high school and an elementary school.
The vote occurred four years after they were removed during nationwide protests demanding a reckoning over racial injustice. In Virginia, local governments were banned from removing Confederate memorials and statues until the law was changed in 2020 after police killed George Floyd in 2020.
Statues of Confederate leaders, including Robert E. Lee, Andrew Jackson and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, were removed from Richmond’s famed Monument Avenue in 2020 and 2021 after protests and vandalizing of these statues.
Shenandoah County is one of the most politically conservative counties in the state.
In a reversal experts think was the first of its kind, Shenandoah County’s school board voted 5-1 to rename Mountain View High School, Stonewall Jackson High School and Honey Run Elementary Ashby Lee Elementary.

In a new Joe Biden campaign advertisement, Robert De Niro declared that former president Donald Trump “snapped” after he lost the 2020 presidential election.
“From midnight tweets to drinking bleach to tear-gassing citizens and staging a photo-op,” De Niro recounted at the beginning of the advertisement. “We knew Trump was out of control when he was president, and then he lost the 2020 election and snapped.”
“Desperately trying to hold on to power,” he said while clips of the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack were shown in the ad. “Now he’s running again, this time threatening to be a dictator, to terminate the Constitution.”
De Niro’s “dictator” comment was in reference to his telling Fox News’s Sean Hannity during a town hall interview in December that he would only be a dictator on the first day of his presidency.
The campaign ad then showed a video of the former president saying at a rally in Dayton,...

Update: The federal judge overseeing Donald Trump’s classified documents criminal case denied prosecutors’ efforts to limit the former president’s attacks on the FBI.
Trump had falsely suggested that the federal agents who searched his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022 were part of a plot to assassinate him.
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon wrote that Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team had failed to properly confer with Trump’s legal team before filing a motion to restrict Trump’s comments. She wrote that she found the Special Counsel’s “pro forma ‘conferral’ to be wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy. It should go without saying that meaningful conferral is not a perfunctory exercise.”

Vivek Ramaswamy, who disclosed a big stake in BuzzFeed last week, sent a letter to the online publisher’s board of directors asking for major changes from staffing and focus to the board makeup as well as an apology for previous reporting. Even the best filmmakers in history take big, ambitious swings and completely miss the mark at times. In the case of Brian De Palma – the supremely talented New Hollywood director behind such all-time great classics as Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, Scarface, The Untouchables, Carlito’s Way, and more – many consider his most glaring cinematic blemish to be tone deaf adaptation of The Bonfire of the Vanities in 1990. However, if general moviegoers and De Palma fans knew about the crushing production woes relating to the ending of his uneven 1998 crime thriller Snake Eyes, perhaps they’d reassess their opinion.
Indeed, the original ending of Snake Eyes is so drastically different than what transpires at the end of the theatrical cut that it’s nearly impossible to judge the movie’s intentional merits versus the final product. Of course, the grand irony about the brutally botched ending of Snake Eyes is...

Robert De Niro was the surprise guest of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign for a press conference outside the Manhattan courthouse where closing arguments are taking place in Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
De Niro, who recently narrated a Biden campaign ad, warned of Trump’s potential return to the White House, calling him a “tyrant.”
“Now he’s promising to use our own military to attack U.S. citizens,” De Niro said. “That’s the tyrant, that is the tyrant he is telling us he will be, and believe me, he means it.”
“When Trump ran in 2016 it was like a joke,” he added. “This buffoon running for president. No, never could happen. We have forgotten the lessons of history that showed us other clowns who weren’t taken seriously until they became vicious dictators. With Trump, we have a second chance, and no one is laughing now.

Home Alone Star Recalls One "Wild" Night with Donald Trump After Shooting Sequel - Main Image
Home Alone 2 star shares the "wild" night he had with Donald Trump, the former US President, after filming.
The Home Alone franchise will always be that classic '90s comedy flick that sparks nostalgia on Christmas day. However, what makes it stand out from the rest is because of one particular cameo from Donald Trump in the sequel.
Before we get into that though, here's how Trump made it into Home Alone 2.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized Democrats and women for underestimating the anti-abortion movement and recalled how she felt abandoned by women toward the end of her campaign for president in 2016 because she was not “perfect.”
Clinton called out the double standard against women in politics, claiming voters were more willing to take a risk on former President Donald Trump because was a man.
“They left me because they just couldn’t take a risk on me, because as a woman, I’m supposed to be perfect,” Clinton told the New York Times. “They were willing to take a risk on [Trump] . . . because he was a man, and they could envision a man as president and commander in chief.”
Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley also faced sexist attacks during her campaign, similar to Clinton. Haley was insulted by Vivek Ramaswamy, another former GOP presidential candidate, who called her “Dick Cheney in three-inch heels.

Former President Donald Trump honored Memorial Day with a scorching post calling out current President Joe Biden and Judge Lewis Kaplan, among others. Trump initially posted an image of himself saluting a decorated wreath.
After, Trump posted, “Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country.” In the lengthy post, Trump named E. Jean Carroll, Judge Juan Merchan and Judge Arthur Engoron, calling him a “Radical Left, Trump-Hating Federal Judge” and “N.Y. State Wacko Judge.”
Trump’s post received criticism from social media, including the Biden-Harris X account that called out Trump for not honoring fallen soldiers. Other accounts shared similar opinions.
On Memorial Day, Biden visited Arlington National Cemetary and delivered a tribute to the fallen soldiers. “Freedom has never been guaranteed. Every generation has to earn it. Fight for it,” Biden said. “Defend it in battle between autocracy and democracy.

Jimmy Kimmel has revealed that his son Billy had his third (and hopefully last) open heart surgery over Memorial Day weekend.
“We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid,” the ABC late-night host wrote on Instagram Monday, captioning a photo of Billy smiling in what looks like a hospital bed.
Kimmel went on to praise the doctors, nurses and staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where Billy was treated.
“We hope you never need Chla, but if you do – know that they help families regardless of their ability to pay, thanks largely to the Affordable Care Act (another salute to the late Senator John McCain), generous donations from companies like Disney, which I am proud to work for and especially from generous people like you,” Kimmel wrote.

Donald Trump recently told a group of donors that if he wins the 2024 presidential election, he will “throw out” students who attend pro-Palestinian protests, according to the Washington Post. “One thing I do is, any student that protests, I throw them out of the country. You know, there are a lot of foreign students. As soon as they hear that, they’re going to behave,” Trump said, according to donors at the event, whom the Post did not name. It is unclear if he meant he would throw out all students,...

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign ridiculed Donald Trump on social media after he nearly fell onstage during a Minnesota rally.
“A feeble Trump nearly falls down on stage after he leans on his podium too hard and then goes on an angry rant calling his event workers’ crappy,'” Biden-[Kamala Harris] HQ wrote on X.
This post also included a video of Trump, at the Minnesota Republican Party’s annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner in St. Paul, wobbling on the platform and blaming the contractor for putting it up poorly.
“You know, this is the worst platform,” the former president stated after almost tipping the podium over.
“Who put this stage up,” he then asked.
“The fricking place is falling down,” he stated jokingly. “It keeps tilting further left. Like too many other things. What a crappy contractor this was.”

This week, two attorneys will stand and make their cases to the jury. Yes, that jury and that trial, which may put a former—and future?—president behind bars. This is when the pressure falls on the prosecution and defense to make their final claims of guilt or innocence.
“At this point, parties are free to use hypothetical analogies to make their points; to comment on the credibility of the witnesses, to discuss how they believe the various pieces of the puzzle fit into a compelling whole, and to advocate why jurors should decide the case in their favor,” explains the official site of the Federal Court System.
Or, we can just recall the most memorable, decisive arguments made on screen. Hey, we can handle the truth! Here is my list of 10 to remember.

The Grand Theatre Lumiere on Monday premiered The Apprentice, a film chronicling the early years of 45th US President Donald Trump as a real estate developer. Amidst the eight-minute standing ovation that followed the film’s premiere, the producers faced pressure from the political group of the former US President to cease and desist.
“Malicious defamation”, said Trump, while threatening to take legal action.
What is “The Apprentice” about?
The film, which was written and directed by Gabriel Sherman and Ali Abbasi, stars Sebastian Stan as Trump. While most people probably think primarily of his strange cadence and his big hair, it's important to remember that Christopher Walken is a damn great actor (see his brief but memorable turn in "Dune: Part Two" as a recent reminder). Sure, Walken has achieved a sort of "living meme" status at this point in his career, but when he's on, he's on, and he's bound to turn in a killer performance. While his "Saturday Night Live" appearances have proven Walken is skilled at comedy, there's something inherently sinister about the actor, which means he's played a lot of villains throughout his career. He's one of our best movie bad guys. Think his cameo as a ruthless mobster in "True Romance," his turn as Donald Trump stand-in Max Shreck in "Batman Returns," and of course, one of his very best performances: drug lord Frank White in Abel Ferrara's nihilistic "King of New York.

Model Amber Rose recently endorsed former President Donald Trump in his upcoming election.
On Tuesday, Rose took to Instagram to post a photo of herself with Donald and Melania Trump at a black-tie event, captioning it “Trump 2024 .”
Rose is a staunch advocate for women’s rights and organized a SlutWalk in 2015, which is a nonprofit event aimed at raising awareness about gender inequality, victim-blaming and rape culture. As a bisexual woman, Rose has also been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community.
This endorsement is to the surprise of many, as in the past, Rose has criticized Trump for his remarks about women. This contradiction between Rose’s words and actions has sparked frustration from fans and public figures.
Film director Nathan Williams commented on her post, “Unfollow with quickness. He is against everything I thought you stood for. Bye, girl.”
Another commenter said, “I thought you’re a feminist?...

A right-wing flag flew outside Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s beach vacation home in Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
The “Appeal to Heaven” flag had been seen flying at Alito’s beach home on Google Images searches in July and September 2023. Still, it was unclear how long the flag was flying or how much time the Supreme Court Justice had spent there.
The “Appeal to Heaven” flag, otherwise known as the “Pine Tree” flag, features an old evergreen tree drawn on a white background with “An Appeal to Heaven” written in black block letters.
Col. Joseph Reed, a right-hand man to then-General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, originally designed the flag.
“Please fix upon some particular color for a flag and a signal by which our vessels may know one another,” Reed mentioned in a letter from Cambridge, Mass. to Colonels John Glover and Stephen Moylan, dated October 20, 1775, according to researchers.

After Trump Campaign Posts Video Referencing A ‘Unified Reich,’ Biden Blasts Use ‘Hitler’s Language’
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign deleted a video showing the words “unified Reich” from social media, which caused an uproar.
On May 20, Trump’s Truth Social account shared a 30-second campaign video that displayed a message about a “unified Reich” in America if he becomes president again this November.
The video, deleted from Truth Social and Instagram on Tuesday, had also been posted to the former president’s Instagram account.
It contained a series of headlines predicting “what happens after Donald Trump wins” and “what’s next for America,” with responses like, “Economy Booms!” and “15 Million Illegal Aliens Deported.”
The somewhat blurred text appeared beneath the headlines two times in the clip.
“Industrial strength significantly increased … driven by the creation of a unified Reich,” the text read.
The term “Reich” means “realm” or “empire,” which is often associated with Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich, which began in Nazi Germany...

Four secretaries of state are speaking out about the threats they receive regularly simply for doing their jobs, thanks in large part to election denialism perpetuated by Donald Trump and members of the Republican Party.
“Threats against elections officials in the United States of America is domestic terrorism. Terrorism is defined as a threat or violence for a political outcome. That’s what this is,” Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said on Meet the Press. He spoke as part of a panel of four secretaries of state who appeared on the show Sunday.

After Ivanka Trump first announced her departure from politics in 2021, the daughter of former President Donald Trump has kept her distance from the political sphere – and her father. Former President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at the White House state dinner on Thursday. At the Libertarian National Convention on Friday, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed his opponent, Donald Trump, in his hour-long speech to the party’s voters. Kennedy criticized Trump’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Kennedy, who is firmly anti-vax, blamed the former president for closing down businesses and violating individual liberties by enforcing mask mandates.
Kennedy Jr. also criticized Operation Warp Speed, a federal program to develop Covid-19 vaccines during the height of the pandemic. Trump announced the program in May 2020 and has previously taken credit for his efforts to distribute a vaccine. Kennedy claimed Trump “caved into bureaucrats,” insinuating Trump’s efforts were another political ploy.
“He got rolled by his bureaucrats. He caved in, and many of our most fundamental rights practically disappeared overnight,” Kennedy said. Kennedy received a standing ovation for his comments.
Trump will address the Libertarian convention in his Saturday speech to its voters.

The Republican National Committee’s head of election security, Christina Bobb, a former attorney of Donald Trump, has been receiving ridiculed on social media following her arraignment for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Arizona by sending a slate of fake electors from the state.
Bobb was a lawyer for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign. When she worked for One America News, she reported on an audit of the Arizona election results while also raising money for the audit.
From there, the former Trump lawyer became a part of the fake elector plot and the “command center” at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., during the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.
Her mugshot was taken this week after she and ten other people who appeared in court virtually were arraigned at a Maricopa County, Arizona, courthouse. At the same time, she pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.

Often, the juries at the Cannes Film Festival will try to make a political statement in their choices for the winners of the world’s most famous film festival. Not this year. At least, not in the way they might have.
I rather thought that director Mohammad Rasoulof would take the Palme d’Or for his stirring The Seed Of The Sacred Fig. It deals with the oppressive regime in Iran and the crisis in one family, where the daughters rise up to protest against the wishes of their father, a judge handing out death sentences for those who make their voices heard.
Plus, the back story of Rasoulof’s own daring escape from his home country after making this movie in secrecy and also being handed an eight-year prison sentence, is also a strong one.

The Palme d’Or, the fest’s top honor, went to Sean Baker’s sex worker screwball comedy Anora. A nervous and shaking Baker took the stage and thanked the jury, saying he still “couldn’t believe it.” Baker said winning Cannes’ top prize has been “my singular goal as a filmmaker for the past 30 years.”
Baker also singled out Francis Ford Coppola and David Cronenberg, two veteran directors with films in Cannes competition this year, as major inspirations. Baker has come far, going from shooting his 2015 feature Tangerine on an iPhone5s to winning the Palme d’Or. He is the first American director to win the Palme since Terrence Malick for The Tree of Life in 2011.
