Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hütz is launching his new label, Casa Gogol Records, with a single benefitting Ukraine. Hütz recruited Bernard Sumner (New Order, Joy Division) for a cover of Angelic Upstarts’ “Solidarity.”
The pair’s take on the punk song comes in two forms, remixed by each artist respectively. Both Gogol Bordello’s “Unity” mix and Sumner’s “Right to Freedom” mix match their distinct genre disciplines, with the latter turning the track into a new wave dream.
“This is a particularly meaningful collaboration for us,” Hütz shared in a statement.

New Order have paired their recent single “Be a Rebel” with a new video that reunites the group with Spanish filmmakers Nysu.
“We’d previously worked with Nysu from Madrid when they created a memorable video for us to go with ‘Restless,’ and their imagination and creativity with film really struck a chord with the band,” New Order said in a statement. “For ‘Be a Rebel,’ it has been great to team up with Nysu again, and their inspirational treatment and unique aesthetic compliments the track with a very original vision.

New Order have released a thumping new remix of their first song in five years, “Be a Rebel.”

Aspden worked closely with the band on the “Be a Rebel” remix, which finds the group streamlining the song’s already propulsive groove into a more classic house style, amping up the kick drums and slapping...

New Order have dropped “Be a Rebel,” their first new song since they released 2015’s Music Complete.
On the buoyant synth-pop track, Bernard Sumner sings of optimism and embracing self-love, despite challenging times. “Take a look at yourself/You may not be the same as everyone else/You’re just different, that’s Ok/We all follow our own way,” he sings on the chorus. “And if you find that they won’t listen/Then they’ve got nothing to say/So don’t get mad and don’t feel sad/Be a rebel.

Peter Hook had planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Joy Division’s Closer — an LP that, due to the death of singer Ian Curtis two months before its release, the band never performed live — with a series of full-album performances this summer. Then coronavirus hit, postponing the shows until January (and perhaps indefinitely). “Closer — because of what happened — has always felt a little detached. I never played those songs [live] as Joy Division. And it actually felt after a couple of years like the LP was by somebody else,” Hook...

After attending a Sex Pistols concert in July 1976, Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook felt they were ready to form a band despite not being accomplished as skilled instrument players. They, therefore, posted in a local records store a “singer wanted” post that resulted in Ian Curtis being picked as the lyricist. The group called itself “Joy Division,” and after only four years of thrilling performances, Ian Curtis committed suicide by hanging himself in his kitchen. The band later rebranded itself as “New Order.” Still, with the recent anniversary of Ian’s death that occurred on May 18, 1980, we are

The Joy Division story has been told many times, yet it never stops seeming too bizarre to be true. Jon Savage, best known for his classic punk history, England’s Dreaming, was one of the band’s first chroniclers in the 1970s, but he tells the tale in a new way in his excellent new book This Searing Light, The Sun and Everything Else. It’s the ultimate oral history of one of rock’s most haunting legends, in the words of the band, their friends, enemies and witnesses. Savage...

The annual Tibet House benefit is a New York City musical tradition, always well-curated by composer and downtown arts ambassador emeritus Philip Glass. The organization’s mission is to preserve, protect, promote and advance Tibetan culture — and with its focus on peace (inner and outer), meditation, healing and happiness, that mission couldn’t be more timely. So the event, billed as the 32nd annual (give or take a few; no one seems to recall exactly), was especially welcome this year. And as usual, the music captured the spirit of the moment.

Joy Division formed in the summer of 1976 after bassist Peter Hook and guitarist Bernard Sumner felt the spark to start a band after seeing the Sex Pistols. The rest of the band members moved forward under the name New Order.

When Disney bought the entire Star Wars franchise from Lucasfilm for all the money in the galaxy, the deal forced a reckoning: Over 40 years, George Lucas garnered a massive and rabid fanbase for his singular vision of old-fashioned matinees refashioned for a galaxy far, far away — but it also remained tethered to his whims. (Knock those dopey prequels all you want, but they were the movies Lucas wanted to make.)
Millions of fans clamored for satisfaction after the first trilogy, but what they faced was an unwieldy assemblage of Star Wars media in a constant state of identity crisis. There was Jar Jar Binks; there was Hayden Christensen as a young Darth Vader; there were plans to re-release “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith” in 3D.

Forget what you know about Wolfeinstein II: The New Colossus. It’s better than that. Yes, it’s coarse and crass and bombastic, just as pre-release footage promised. Yes Nazi heads go flying. But really, it’s a glorious crime caper in the mold of Ocean’s Eleven, sprinkled with the wit of an Inglorious Basterds; a tale told with swagger and spliced with humanity, capable of catching you with a well-timed fork out of the blue.
Its predecessor, The New Order, was a dish of good ideas that wound up feeling a little undercooked. It was daring to be different but also trying to pay lip service to the Wolfenstein legacy. This time around, the wildly talented bunch at Stockholm’s MachineGames have turned up the heat. That doesn’t mean bigger explosions and bigger baddies, mind you. It means a sense of place and a real sense of confidence.

Formed in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, the duo hobnobbed with post-punk innovators, opening for Joy Division and Gary Numan in its early days, while distinguishing itself through its use of then-cutting-edge technology. As the ’80s…

For over three decades Steven Patrick Morrissey has been one of the most controversial and enigmatic characters in pop culture. A singer-songwriter with an affinity for sarcasm and a vehement distaste for pretty much everything life has to offer, Moz inspires devotion and derision in equal measure. Born of the same dour industrial wasteland from which post-punk legends Joy Division sprang in the late '70s, Morrissey's first proper band, The Smiths, became one of the most enduring acts of the '80s. Marrying their singer's dour, depressing, and misanthropic lyrics to the jangling pop guitars of the similarly iconic Johnny Marr, The Smiths were an act that remains hard to follow to this day. To the point: I am a fan. So, when a Morrissey biopic...

Does the world need a Nightwing miniseries? That’s like asking if a second scoop of vanilla ice cream is necessary. The answer, of course, is a resounding yes. It also doesn’t hurt that Nightwing: The New Order brings together the creative team of Kyle Higgins, who rejuvenated Dick Grayson during the New 52 era, and artist Trevor McCarthy, who provided killer artwork for the series in the early 2000s. It’s an all-star affair that looks set to produce a kickass storyline.
This Elseworlds tale takes place in an authoritarian Gotham City in 2040 where superpowers have been eliminated and outlawed. No longer Nightwing, Dick is the man responsible for it all and has now become the leader of a government task force called the Crusaders. His team hunts down the remaining metahumans to keep the world “safe,” ensuring that the former Boy Wonder is...

Charlize Theron excels as an action lead in this cold war spy story, adapted from graphic novel The Coldest City
I can’t think of any actor more deserving of their own pulpy action franchise than Charlize Theron. Having stolen Mad Max: Fury Road from Tom Hardy one-handed (literally), she is relentlessly, murderously brilliant in this adaptation of Antony Johnston’s graphic novel The Coldest City. The setting is Berlin just before the fall of the Wall; the paranoid hangover of the cold war is giving way to a new era of hungry opportunism. A British agent has been murdered; a valuable list is missing. And MI5 asset Lorraine Broughton (Theron, looking like Debbie Harry dipped in venom) is flown in to clear up the mess. There she butts heads with fellow agent David Percival (James McAvoy, skeevy-sexy, accessorised with beer sweats and casual treachery) and has a fling with...

Tuesday’s Short + Feature: These Boots and Mystery Train
Music is at the heart of this program, which pairs a zany music video by Finnish master Aki Kaurismäki with a tune-filled career highlight from American independent-film pioneer Jim Jarmusch. In the 1993 These Boots, Kaurismäki’s band of pompadoured “Finnish Elvis” rockers, the Leningrad Cowboys, cover a Nancy Sinatra classic in their signature deadpan style. It’s the perfect prelude to Jarmusch’s 1989 Mystery Train, a homage to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the musical legacy of Memphis, featuring appearances by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Joe Strummer.

Now that the press conferences are over and we now know what each company has to offer, Aaron is jumping from booth to booth playing all of the biggest games from E3 2017, including getting his hands on a coupule of the big shooters: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Call of Duty: WWII. Come inside to see what he thought about his playtime on the games.
Bethesda - Wolfenstein 2
In the Bethesda Booth, Wolfenstein 2 demos could be played on screens littered about a themed diner (they served strawberry milkshakes!), and the line was extensive. It took hours to finally play.
Points of Interest/Questions
A quirk sets this demo apart from Wolfenstein: The New Order in a big way...the fact that you’re in a wheelchair. It comes with a surprising amount of advantages, and obvious surplus of disadvantages. You can slam an enemy’s head into your wheelchair...

The first trailer for Wolfenstein II really sets the stage for this sequel.
Well....umm....just watch the trailer for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
Video of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – E3 2017 Full Reveal Trailer
Shortly before E3 2017 started, it was rumoured that Bethesda may be developing a new Wolfenstein title. However, nothing in those rumours could have possibly prepared us for the official reveal. Wolfenstein II will pick off where Wolfenstein: The New Order left off by following William "B.J." Blazkowicz and his now pregnant wife. While Blazkowicz's situation may have improved slightly, the world is still run by Nazis in need of killing.
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus' trailer showcases the horror of Nazi rule by emphasising how Nazis have altered popular western culture. It then transitions into a far less amusing perspective on this war ruined the world by showing Nazis and Kkk...

E3 is an exciting time of year for all types of gamers as the show expands into many different categories. Mobile gamers can be excited for new social interactions, and maybe even some new hardware, and of course hardcore gamers can see what the next few years have for them. Here at Cinelinx we are excited for our own reasons and well, we can’t wait to tell you why. Want to know what’s got us excited? Find out after the jump!
Dustin:
Last year, overall, E3 was kind of a dull moment for many reasons. Sure we got a glimpse into Microsoft’s future with Project Scorpio, after the promised they wouldn’t be doing that, but they kind of forgot to bring the unit with them. Sony had a stellar opening showcase and showed off many games, but a majority of them are still unreleased, and undated.
