- Producer
Todd Sheridan Perry works in the film industry as a freelance visual
effects supervisor/artist as well as a screenwriter, editor, and
director. Perry is a classically trained artist as well as both a
traditional and digital animator. His diverse background in video
games, film and television has led him to play key roles in projects
ranging from Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers to most recently 2012
and Sherlock Holmes. He has been animating since he was around 8 years
old after being inspired seeing Star Wars, but his professional career
began when he moved to Los Angeles in 1995. A couple years later,
riding the wave as visual effects migrated from optical to digital, he
started visual effects house Max Ink Cafe with producer
Jennifer Champagne. They worked
together for over a decade to produce visual effects, full CG
animation, and films (both short and feature). Champagne and Perry
still consult with one another on a variety of projects. He has been
awarded an Emmy for his work on the mini-series, The Triangle, while
working with Award winning supervisors
Volker Engel and
Marc Weigert. He was also nominated for a
Visual Effects Society Award for The Kite Runner while working with
CafeFX. Perry writes for both Animation Magazine and Digital Media Net,
reviewing both software and hardware used in the visual effects
industry, which keeps him abreast of the developing technologies that
contribute to visual effects that he feels are supplanting the "movie
star" as the reason people go see blockbusters. Todd received his BFA
at Pacific Lutheran University with an emphasis in 2-dimensional media,
which included illustration, painting, photography and digital media.
Animation and visual effects training came from internships in Seattle
with Terry Tennyson for character animation and Charlie Canfield at
Alpha Cine for optical effects. He resides in Seattle, WA focusing on
writing and developing film projects, making frequent trips to his
other residence in Venice, CA to consult on visual effects projects.
