"Where the hell is this 'stranger?'" HBO Max has revealed the first full trailer for their new mini-series The Tourist, originally made for BBC One and Stan in Australia. So - who is he? When a man wakes up with amnesia in an Australian hospital, he must use what few clues he has to discover his identity before his past catches up with him. In the first scene, the protagonist is driving through the outback pursued by a truck whose driver is trying to run him off the road. This stars Jamie Dornan as "The Man", plus an ensemble cast including Danielle Macdonald, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Genevieve Lemon, Alex Dimitriades, and Damon Herriman. As mysterious as this all is, the trailer pretty much reveals most of who he is - some kind of criminal involved in some kind of problem with other gangsters. It looks a bit like the "Fargo" series,...

“Oh, she’s always challenging me.”
Deborah Mailman is reflecting on playing Senator Alex Irving, her in character Total Control – the most complex role she believes she’s had in a more than 20 year career.
The Blackfella Films political drama is set to return for a second season tonight on the ABC, and for Mailman, the emotional stakes this time around are higher again.
In the Aacta Award-winning first season, Irving engineered a coup to dethrone Prime Minister Rachel Anderson (Rachel Griffiths), who appointed her to the Senate.
Now, she must face the reality of the alliance she’s made with the Opposition Leader Laurie Martin (William McInnes), taking orders from him and his offsider, enigmatic Indigenous politician Paul Murphy (Wayne Blair).
“In season two, the writers took Alex pretty much to breaking point,” Mailman tells If.
“The emotional energy that was required for some of those moments was exhausting.

Samantha Strauss.
Samantha Strauss met with executives at Fox Searchlight during what she describes as a “water bottle” tour of Los Angeles in January last year.
That visit has paid off handsomely as the Dance Academy creator has been commissioned to script a movie about Joan Quigley, the San Francisco astrologer who became a confidante to First Lady Nancy Reagan and President Ronald Reagan.
John Madden will direct President’s Astrologer, produced by Damian Jones for Fox Searchlight, one of the Fox units which will soon be folded into the Walt Disney Co. as part of a $US71.3 billion deal with Rupert Murdoch’s company.
Fox Searchlight execs had read a sample of Strauss’ work on The End, See-Saw Films’ 10-part drama co-commissioned by Foxtel and Sky UK. They thought the tone was perfect for Madden’s film, which will relate how Nancy Reagan secretly hired Quigley as the White House...

Ewen Leslie and Jenna Coleman in ‘The Cry’ (Photo: BBC)
Playing a guy whose baby son is abducted in the BBC/ABC psychological drama The Cry directed by Glendyn Ivin was one of the most challenging roles in Ewen Leslie’s illustrious career.
The actor plays Alistair, an Australian political adviser working for the British Labour Party, who returns home with his wife Joanna (Doctor Who and Victoria’s Jenna Coleman) and infant.
En route to a small coastal town to see Alistair’s mother Elizabeth (Stella Gonet), the baby vanishes from their car, compounding the anguish for Alistair who is fighting for custody of his daughter Chloe (Markella Kavenagh) from an earlier marriage to Alexandra (Asher Keddie).
Based on Australian author Helen FitzGerald’s eponymous 2013 novel and scripted by Jacquelin Perske, the series will premiere next Sunday at 9pm on BBC1. The ABC is yet to reveal the air date.

David Wenham on set of his directorial feature debut, 'Ellipsis'..
In the second part of his interview with If, David Wenham chats about his recent roles in 'Wake in Fright', 'In Like Flynn' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'...
When David Wenham was offered the role of the police sergeant Jock Crawford in the miniseries Wake in Fright he initially recoiled at the idea.
As a passionate admirer of Canadian director Ted Kotcheff.s seminal 1971 movie based on the Kenneth Cook novel he thought the idea of a remake was ridiculous.
Wenham had watched the restored movie twice, at the Sydney Film Festival and at the Chauvel cinema, rating it as a visceral experience and an incredible piece of filmmaking.
However he changed his mind after reading Stephen M. Irwin.s script for the Network Ten two-parter directed by Kriv Stenders.

Close buddies for more than 25 years, Hunter and Field often discussed co-writing a book but never got around to it.
.We were having too much fun,. Field tells If. He may use the title suggested by Hunter, which trades on one of the actor's favourite expressions, .Stand Where and Say What?.
Field first met Hunter, whose credits include Newsfront, Gallipoli, Strictly Ballroom, Muriel's Wedding, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert, Road to Nhill, Crackerjack, The Pacific and The Cup, at the Belvoir Theatre.
They worked together twice, in Laurie McInnes. 1993 black-and-white drama Broken Highway and in Alkinos Tsilimidos.s 2004 film Tom White, which starred Colin Friels as an architect whose life unravels after a nervous breakdown.

Time-travel movies can be so difficult to execute that few filmmakers attempt them. Fewer still can claim success. Of those, I've reserved the highest praise, citing as the only time-travel movie that "gets it right" by being internally self-consistent, playing by its own rules while still being entertaining and managing to surprise the audience, for Nacho Vigolondo's Time Crimes. Until now. Many might ask about Rian Johnson's hit Looper, which is a good film, I agree, but which in the end breaks the rules.
Like Time Crimes, The Infinite Man is a micro-budget sci-fi story with a cast of only three characters. They are Dean (Josh McConville), his girlfriend Lana (Hannah Marshall), and her ex Terry (Alex Dimitriades), who is obsessed with Lana and wants her back.
In addition to being a brilliant crackerjack scientist, Dean is a control freak who can't be satisfied with anything less than perfection.

Australia, 2014
Relationships and time travel are often tied together and with good reason. Relationships are a natural source of conflict, and time travel lends itself well metaphorically to the lengths people will go for one another. The Infinite Man irreverently dissects relationships and genuinely explores how they can disintegrate via insecurities, jealousy, and a continual focus on the past.
The film follows Dean (Josh McConville) and Lana (Hannah Marshall) as they return to the same hotel as last year to celebrate the same anniversary weekend as last year. Dean is a genius complete with obsessive compulsive neuroticism and lack of spontaneity. To him, everything can be processed and broken down into chemical processes and organized lists. He represents the kind of routine and rut every person finds him or herself in during a relationship.
When Terry (Alex Dimitriades), Lana’s ex,...
