Chicago – Jane Seymour is a memorable beauty, and has found success in virtually all areas of the media. After breaking through with films such as “Live and Let Die” and “Somewhere in Time,” she was “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” for six seasons on TV. She returns with “Perfectly Prudence” on the Hallmark channel.
The television movie marks the second time Seymour has played Prudence McCoy, a British version of Martha Stewart. In this go around, new producers come in to remake Prudence’s show. One of the producers is played by Joe Lando, notable because he was Seymour’s Dr Quinn co-star throughout the series. Their on-screen chemistry is revived, and the complications of re-tooling Prudence gives this adventure a comic touch.

A pair of fright favorites have been announced for Blu-ray release later this year. Dark Sky Films gave Fango the word that Henry: Portait Of A Serial Killer will have its hi-def debut September 29, while Universal Home Entertainment issues the modern zombie-comedy classic Shaun Of The Dead (previously available on a now-out-of-print HD-DVD) on Blu-ray September 22. Contents have yet to be announced, but presumably these will contain all the previous DVD special features; retail price for each is $29.98.
Speaking of Dark Sky, the company also let us know that it has bumped its release of the British gorefest Gnaw to October 13, and confirmed that the much-lauded Deadgirl will hit disc September 15. You can find articles on both these films in Fango #285, which hits the stands any day now.
Anchor Bay issues the well-reviewed Australian psychological chiller Acolytes July 28. Directed by Jon Hewitt from a script he wrote with S.P. Krause and Shayne Armstrong,...

One of 2007's breakout indie hits, "Lars and the Real Girl" was just high-profile enough, profitable enough, acted-by-Ryan-Gosling- within-an-inch-of-its-life enough and conspicuously life-affirming enough to, in the end, warrant a substantial backlash. But a backlash descends every year on overpumped movies as naturally as autumn comes to summer, inevitably, and we need to keep in mind that backlash is as irrelevant to the movie in question as is the hype and popularity that spawned it. In an ideal world, we'd see movies in a vacuum unpoisoned by publicity plague dogs and self-aggrandizing bloggers and clueless critics. Instead, we're inundated with cant that is predominantly interested in itself and its opponents, not in the movie as it would be seen, by itself, a year or ten down the road. We need to remember, for instance, that while "Juno" didn't deserve any sort of Oscar, and was...
