- It took eight hours to put him into the prosthetic suit for his role as Mr. Hyde in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) and three hours to take the suit off.
- He is the son of the Scottish director Gordon Flemyng, who mainly worked in television but is also known for directing the two Doctor Who (1963) cinema films made during the 1960s starring Peter Cushing, Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966).

- With the death of Sir John Mills on April 23, 2005, he is the only one of the seven actors to have played Professor Bernard Quatermass - which he did in The Quatermass Experiment (2005) - who is still alive. Reginald Tate, John Robinson, André Morell, Brian Donlevy and Andrew Keir died in 1955, 1979, 1978, 1972 and 1997 respectively.
