Agent Cody Banks (2003)
The worst movie I've ever seen.
This movie was on TV once at my friends house and after we watched it we had to watch two other movies to rinse its foulness from our eyes. Stay away from this movie. The plot is incredibly superficial (save the world, get the girl), the characters are shallow and the acting isn't that good. The movie is about a normal teenager named Cody Banks who is a secret agent in his spare time. So the secret agents who are hiring him give him some cool gadgets and he goes and does stuff with them and by then you are lost. Of course, during all this he manages to fall in love with the Hilary Duff character who then gets kidnapped by the bad guys and he has to go save her. The movie could have been a lot better if either Frankie Muniz or Hilary Duff could do more than 3 facial expressions. This movie should only be rented with a precautionary other 2 movies, to rinse out the after taste. Nothing in it is original, or even remotely cute or funny. Stay away.
Wimbledon (2004)
Love in tennis and outside
I love romantic comedies, and this one went straight to the top of my list. It's the kind I can watch every weekend and not get tired, so basically, it's worth renting. Wimbledon revolves around Peter Colt, a Englishman and Lizzie Bradbury an American, who meet at the Wimbledon tennis tournament. It's the end of Peter's profession career as a tennis player, and Lizzie's on her way up. Being a romantic comedy, the movie is about how they get together. Though I don't think Kirsten Dunst ( who played Lizzie Bradbury) is a particularly good actress, the energy she added to this movie brought added just the right kick. All the scenes fit together seamlessly, it's funny and charming, and under it all it gives you a few moral lessons about family and will power. One thing that I use to judge romantic comedies by is how I feel after I watch them and this makes me leap out of my chair and be ready for whatever comes at me. This movie does not need a sequel, if the make one I will be mad.
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003)
An unnecessary sequel
I wasn't really expecting anything from this sequel, so I got more than I bargained for. Legally Blond is one of my favorite movies of all time, and after the finish of that movie there is not much more for you to ask for. I really enjoyed the costumes in this movie, but one thing that bothered me was that all the characters were simplified a ton. Elle is the feisty blond, different, but no longer as smart, Paulette becomes just plain dumb, and Emmett is the supporting soon to be husband. What I enjoyed was what most people enjoy, namely, seeing Elle flounce around on heels getting in and out of trouble her way. I would hope that a sequel to the bright, polished Legally Blond might make Elle a little older, not only in wardrobe, but in perception of the world. In some ways Elle is a child, and being engaged should grow her up a bite. I think Legally Blond didn't need a sequel, but I watched this anyway, and really enjoyed seeing Elle again.
Alfie (2004)
A real disappointment
When me and my family went to rent this movie I assumed I would be watching a typical chick flick; classy, with some funny jokes but in the end the guy and the girl. This was not at all the case. Alfie starts out alright, about an English womanizer living in New York City. But as the movie progresses, the movie becomes more and more slow paced and more and more preachy. There are also very few jokes. So in short: Reasons to see it: You either have nothing better t o do or you really like Jude Law. Reasons not to see: A lot of movies out there are a lot better than this. This movie was a big disappointment for someone like me who really enjoys a good romantic comedy.
