Corporate Ghost (2004)
very very enjoyable for any fan
i found everything about this DVD to be really enjoyable. everything was really done well. i was very impressed with the opening and the little montage that plays at the main menu. it pumps you up and it's just fantastic. i'm a Sonic Youth fan obviously and i've never seen all of the videos. and the DVD served that purpose and satisfied it. to the fullest. featuring videos from Goo to Murray Street, they're all very unique in it's form. not that some videos felt more commercialized than others but they all truly had that Sonic Youth-feel to it. also the videos have various Director Commentary and all of them have commentary from the band themselves. its very enjoyable and informative as they talk about not seeing some of the videos in a long time. i was really surprised that fellow Sonic friends Kathleen Hanna and Jason Lee provided commentary for the they were in. that was a nice treat.
special features include various other music videos i guess that weren't released i suppose.. or just extra videos. including a video for Thurston Moore's song Ono Soul from his solo album Psychic Hearts.
besides that, the DVD was created to serve one purpose.. to please Sonic fans (both hardcore and new ones) and provide them all of the music videos with some extra treats. i was pleased by this.
goodness indeed.
Tadpole (2002)
Enjoyable Simple Film
I've heard about the movie when it came out a couple of years ago. I thought the plot was intriguing because i figured there would be a lot of interesting developments and i just wanted to see how the film would come out to be. well, sadly - i didn't see the film in theaters but i did catch it on IFC for the first time. and i was impressed.
i thought the story didn't really have much depth to it but the movie was really funny in some parts. i enjoyed watching John Ritter. for a movie, the story felt really thin - but it made up for it in the end i believe. And, it did interest me to keep watching it rather than just stop. overall i thought it was really funny and there were some interesting parts of the movie that i thought could of been executed better. i heard about the complaints about the quality of the film and how it was filmed in digital and that didn't phase me at all. i think it's stupid to think less of a film just because the shots in it weren't perfect. i loved the ending and it really fulfilled the time i spent watching it. like the summary, it's a very well done enjoyable simple film. i'd watch it again, definitely.
Clerks (2000)
one of the best cartoons i've ever seen
being a Kevin Smith/Clerks fan, i absolutely caught this show when it first aired. watching the first episode practically made me laugh my head off. and i was disappointed when i heard it was canceled. but when i saw all the episodes again on DVD not too long ago, i was immediately reminded as to why i loved this cartoon. it's very different from the movie i'd say, mostly because all of the topics that were discussed in the movie were adult themed. and the script had a certain adult style, the way the lines were delivered. but in this cartoon, it has it's own way to be funny. it doesn't revolve that much on having jobs and how much life can be so irritating, but it revolves around these crazy story lines that are just really funny. and having all the original actors do the voices was the icing on the cake. i seriously mark this as one of the best cartoons i've ever seen.
Stranded (2001)
Slow interesting film that makes up for it in the end.
I've been a fan of Vincent Gallo for quite some time and I decided to rent this movie. I was interested in the story already because I do enjoy movies that make you think. Take the situation, a crew crash lands on Mars which is a very far away from any help they'll get and they end up debating on what's going to happen to them. The movie started out very slow i thought, but it picked up it's pace once they crashed. The acting was not great but it's not terrible. It bothered me in some scenes where one character was explaining important facts on how they were going to survive but it didn't really ruin the movie for me. Vincent Gallo is the only actor in the film i really know about and i thought he did his part very well. Though his character isn't really fall apart from the usual characters he portrays in other films. The rest of the cast did their job. The story isn't deep but it does follow very well on how the whole crew takes in the situation. The look of the movie was well done also. I found no flaws in the sets or in the special effects. They're not TOP NOTCH effects but they do their job. I enjoyed watching the film and i was very interested when the ending began to unfold. It was nice to see a movie like this that wasn't fixated on famous actors, or multi-million dollar effects - it really makes you think about what it takes to survive and what you must sacrifice to stay alive when you're stranded in one of the most unlivable places ever.
