Nowhere (2023)
A well-executed, tense survival thriller
This is indeed one of the best lost at sea movies I have seen in years. In fact, it should be in the same league as Cast Away. Through out its entire running time, I was almost on the edge of my seat. Anna Castillo's acting is prominently praiseworthy. Her rather natural acting has definitely won my heart.
The film has a fair share of tense, heart pounding, and many a time, breathtaking moments that are truly reflective of Albert Pinto's splendid directorial efforts.
Great direction, great acting, making it a great movie all in all! I'm surprised why there's a lower rating than 7? Watch it... you'll thoroughly enjoy it!
Joker (2019)
Who's Laughing Now?
So, notwithstanding a plethora of seemingly pessimistic reviews from various circles, 'joker' still remains one of the top films so far this year (2019). Proof? Well, for starters, the pretty penny that it is raking in (in millions) is one tiny reason but what makes this film actually mammoth is 1) the almost flawlessly magnificent direction by Todd Phillips and 2) the breathtakingly mesmerizing acting by Joaquin Phoenix. What he does with acting is beyond art. Joaquin actually surpasses all standards in this department and virtually leaves the audience awestruck as to how he's molded himself in Joker's character. Without a doubt, he has outdone this role and set a new scale which is beyond excellence and which has not been achieved so far.
Despite the top-class direction and acting, what also makes this film a true gem is the fact that in spite of being a DC-based film, it is unusually close to reality. While portraying the trials and tribulations of a common man and how he went on to become the monster that he did - the depiction of the transition from a mentally ill person to becoming an antihero or a super villain was splendid to say the least.
Now the question of whether this film would (or already has) instigate violence would be a joke itself. Haven't we seen gorier, much brutal movies that contain nonsensical, gratuitous violence?
Claiming that this film would encourage violence merely seems an excuse by the critics to just vocalize their pig-headed opinions. We all know that we've seen much worse before!
To me, this is a masterpiece that exceeds all Joker movies and that is certainly worth a watch. So, go watch it with an open mind and you'll know 'who's laughing now!'
