We laughed!
23 February 2018
Yeesh, I don't know what is going on. How did this movie get such a low rating here while the painfully unfunny Ghostbusters (2016, coincidentally written by the same person as this) got a higher rating? The only thing I can guess is that Amy Schumer has so many online haters who came here to dump on this movie. My wife and I laughed a bunch of times during this well paced if lightweight movie. I only wish the character Jefferey had been given more lines! Mama! Mama!

Sand Sharks (2012)
1/10
Waste of Time
22 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I sometimes like bad movies, but this was a boring, bad movie! The timing of everything was poor. The characters weren't believable or very motivated. I can suspend disbelief-- sure, maybe some special sharks could swim through sand, but, for instance, the entire island being powered by one small extension cord? Please.

You know what would have been amusing? If they had made some reference to Parker Lewis Can't Lose. Actually, maybe they did; I have to confess I fast-forwarded through a lot of this half-cooked tripe.

If anybody ever remakes this (right...), here's a free line courtesy of IMDb's 10 line minimum: "We're going to need a bigger golf cart."

The Omen (2006)
3/10
Uninspired
16 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, maybe this was unfair of me, but I watched this version right after re-watching the original Omen. I really like the original. I think I first saw it when I was 10 or so, and was duly scared, finding the cemetery scene quite memorable.

Oh my, the 2006 Omen was boring in comparison! Pedestrian music. Uninspired sets, apart from the apartment near the subway, but even that I'm sure I've seen used before.

The director has done one impressive thing: even Pete Postlethwaite, whom I normally love, was not so great in this! What a waste of a talented cast.

This director had a lot more money to spend and the art of special effects has surely improved greatly since the original, but how did he kill Mrs. Baylock? Runs her over. Uninspired.

Session 9 (2001)

Awesome location, LAME story
8 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I watched "Session 9" for the building, and perhaps that explains my reaction to the film: What a waste! It really is a wonderful setting for a horror movie, and it's a shame that SUCH a weak movie was set here. A ****** making people ****? Wow, how original. Geez. And to the people who didn't think it was predictable-- maybe YOU have experienced a lobotomy first hand and thus didn't see that coming.

I really do think the weak part was the writing. The cast wasn't bad, the music was good, as previously mentioned the location was amazing, the direction was okay, the photography was okay. But WOW, the dialog didn't even have me believing in the characters and the plot was LAME.

If you want to see an excellent ghost story, I highly recommend "The Uninvited." http://www.us.imdb.com/title/tt0037415/ I'd be surprised if it didn't give you nearly as many chills as "Session 9," which is impressive for a movie made in the 1940s!

BTW according to wikipedia, the lobotomy was the creation of a Swiss doctor. (In the documentary on the DVD, which I enjoyed, an actor says that lobotomies were first used at Danvers.)

Open Water (2003)

Worst scripted film I've seen in ages!
10 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
What a lousy movie. What a weak ending. Ugh!

I'll give them that it was sometimes suspenseful.. But wow, that is so not hard to do.

I think this director has a future, but only if he doesn't participate in the writing!

The underwater shark scenes weren't scary. I guess they couldn't afford CGI or better shark wrangling.

Isn't there also a minimum length for a "feature film"? 70 something minutes?? That isn't a movie, that is a poorly edited TV episode!

I confess that I did glance at the special features. LOL Here's the camera we bought! Look at me! I'm a director!

My High Expectations Were Dashed
25 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Jeez, what an overrated movie. I saw it 3 years after it came out and did indeed have high expectations. I came away wondering why I've heard so many people talking for so long about Pedro, et al. There was virtually no character development. Did ND really get a girl? Who cares? I thought the opening credits were better than 95% of the rest of the movie.

Yeesh.

Are there that many alienated losers in America to admire this film into a beloved event?

My high expectations are turning into a low fear for the future of American comedies!
