The Wolfman (2010)
Better than I expected
I went into this movie with low expectations after seeing it's reviews on Rottentomatoes. And I'm also such a big fan of the original that it was up against a lot for me. But luckily it turned out better than i thought.
I was pretty impressed with the makeup. I was worried that this movie would consist of mostly cgi effects which I am not a fan of at all. But luckily a lot of the gore was done well, that and the way they made Benicio look as the Wolfman was pretty true to the original, which I was very happy about. You could tell at some parts that it was him under there, and not just a computer animated image, which was refreshing.
The story was pretty decent as well, though i could've done without the family tie in. I also think they should've expanded more on the relationship between Lawrence and Gwen. It was well acted but it just didn't have the romantic charm that the original had. I would've enjoyed a reboot of the date scene among the gypsies that was done in the original. But that wouldn't have worked unless they changed the story back to the original. The music was top notch, and I'd expect nothing less. And best of all the film did have a bit of depth to it. Which is more than I can say for most horror movies of recent years.
The only part that I genuinely didn't like was the ending. If there is a sequel I hope they aren't going the way I think they're going. There are some people I'd like to see return and some people I wouldn't.
Overall the movie was better than how it is perceived on Rottentomatoes if nothing else. And it's worth a watch.
Dream a Little Dream (1989)
My God what did I just watch?!
So I went into this movie totally expecting it to have the things i wanted. One being its from the 80s, two being it has the Coreys. Unfortunately this movie was so strange and disturbing that I just couldn't quite get into it even though I wanted to. It has a lot of strange themes. For instance the old man becomes Corey Feldman's character (who for the whole movie dresses dances and just looks like Michael Jackson) and then continues to kiss and date the Rick Nelson look alike's girlfriend. Even though he's looking for his wife (who is the mom from Carrie....talk about creepy). So it has this weird pedophile Michael Jackson feel to it. Not to mention it seems like the music tends to over power the movie at some points. And its not even good 80s music or popular things. And with Corey Feldman dancing in the background like Michael Jackson it really just ruins it. But then again some people may like that...Corey Haim has a smaller role in this too, even though I think he may have been able to save the movie had he had a larger role. All in all it was mostly strange but I got a few laughs out of it. It ends on a strange note as well, a picture of the mother from Carrie smiling still frame...I laughed but was a little disturbed. I'd say skip this one. Stick to License to Drive or The Lost Boys.
Killing Birds (1988)
From the front cover you'd think it'd be good...
I am a huge fan of zombie movies, and I'm also a huge fan of "so bad its good" movies. This movie put me to sleep. The acting was horrible, the story was retarded, the blind guy was slightly amusing for a second. Please don't buy this movie. I had high hopes because of the title and the awesome picture on the front, hell I'll give anything like that a chance, but please avoid this movie. I can hardly believe this was even put in the same series as the other Zombie movies. It's not the same director, I'd hate to see this guys other movies. Try zombie lake, or maybe the original Zombi...Looks can definitely be deceiving.
Slime City (1988)
Worth a watch
I watched this movie a few weeks ago. Like most people on here I think it deserves about a 5 out of 10. The first kill is definitely not expected, suddenly he just starts melting and kills a homeless man, which instantly made me want to see the rest of it. He killed the homeless man with some blunt weapon and was just beating his skull in, pretty awesome. I was impressed with the acting of the main characters best friend the most. The story was original, I've never seen anything like it before. The final scene was interesting to say the least and unfortunately the special effects weren't as good as the first kill but needless to say this is a cult classic that you should give a chance.
