Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders: Lost Souls (2017)
A Disappointing Misstep in Cultural Authenticity
Title: "Lost Souls"
As I eagerly tuned in to watch the latest episode, "Lost Souls", I was left disheartened by the glaring lack of authentic cultural representation throughout the show. Despite its ample resources, the production failed to prioritize accurate language portrayal, resulting in cringe-worthy moments that detracted from the overall viewing experience.
From poorly pronounced dialogue to questionable translations, it was evident that the show missed the mark in portraying the local language authentically. This oversight was particularly disappointing considering Criminal Minds' reputation for attention to detail.
Moving forward, I urge the producers to invest more in casting actors who not only resemble the characters they portray but also possess the linguistic proficiency needed to convincingly embody their roles. By prioritizing authenticity, the show can ensure a more immersive and respectful depiction of diverse cultures in future episodes. Until then, "Lost Souls" serves as a reminder of the importance of getting cultural representations right in the pursuit of engaging storytelling.
Queens (2024)
How to Ruin a Crown: The Disastrous Tale of "Queens"the documentary
The "Queens" documentary left me profoundly disappointed. Despite its visually stunning presentation, the experience was marred by a soundtrack that clashed horribly with the breathtaking visuals. Instead of enhancing the storytelling, the intrusive vocals turned the documentary into a misguided musical experiment gone awry.
The lack of harmony between the audio and visual elements left me questioning whether I was watching a serious documentary or a failed attempt at a Broadway adaptation.
But the disappointment didn't end there. The narrative felt superficially constructed, tailored to a specific audience rather than genuinely exploring its subject matter. Rather than delving into the complexities of queendom, the documentary presented a shallow portrayal that lacked depth and substance. It reduced the concept of being a queen to a mere caricature, devoid of the genuine struggles and triumphs that define the title.
In many cultures, being a queen is about earning respect and authority through merit and leadership. However, in this documentary, it felt like the essence of queendom was lost amidst contrived drama.
The narrative resembled a poorly written love-drama story, with animals awkwardly cast as the protagonists in a human-influenced drama. The overall result was a forced and artificial narrative that lacked authenticity and gravitas.
Rather than shedding light on the true essence of queendom, the "Queens" felt like a misguided attempt at entertainment with little meaningful insight to offer. In fact, the documentary may have been more enjoyable if watched without the sound altogether. It's a shame that such visually stunning cinematography was overshadowed by nonsensical soundtrack that failed to complement it.
Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
Abysmal
Watching "Insidious" felt more like enduring a marathon of tediousness than enjoying a thrilling horror experience. The film's pacing was so sluggish that I found myself drifting off into sleep multiple times, only to wake up and discover that the plot had barely progressed.
The supposed "demons" haunting the characters appeared disappointingly amateurish, resembling something one might encounter in a low-budget haunted house attraction rather than on the grand scale of the silver screen.
Their lackluster design failed to evoke any genuine sense of terror or suspense. To compound matters, the narrative was burdened with an excessive number of simultaneous plotlines, each vying for attention without ever coalescing into a coherent whole. Instead of enriching the story, this narrative overload only served to confuse and frustrate viewers, myself included, as we struggled to make sense of the disjointed storytelling.
In hindsight, I can't help but lament the 1 hour and 47 minutes of my life that I squandered on this lackluster cinematic endeavor. With countless other activities vying for my attention, I can't help but feel that I would have been better off spending my time doing literally anything else. Here's to hoping that future horror movies will offer a more engaging and fulfilling experience.
Damsel (2024)
Rubbish
I regret to say that watching "Damsel" was an absolute waste of time. From start to finish, the plot was as dull as watching paint dry. The characters were uninspiring, storyline so lifeless it made me question if the actors were even awake during filming. The only redeeming quality was the castle itself, and even that was somewhat underwhelming. The ending itself was utterly ridiculous. Instead of resolving the plot in a meaningful or satisfying way, the filmmakers opted for a nonsensical fly-sail away into the sunset, as if they've all suddenly become best friends forever. It was a cringe-worthy attempt at forced camaraderie that left me questioning the sanity of the scriptwriters. A disappointing conclusion to an already abysmal movie. Save yourself the agony and avoid this film at all costs. I demand a refund of my time.
Beast (2022)
Insulted on behalf of the lion
-I'd like to know who in the world would get into river at night/day when hippos and crocodiles are present and very active .
-I understand punching or kicking a big cat's snout after all they are sensitive but make it make sense. I'd like to find out what kind of immunity Idris has because in the beginning he got mauled, and didn't even clean his wound. Getting mauled by a wild animal and not cleaning the wound =infection.
- Why ? Just why? Why would you open the door ?
Why would you leave the car when told not to do so?
Why would you go looking for problems? Why would you make noise? Why would you do things that are beyond illogical?
-Don't forget they only had a bottle of water ... and speaking of water, the leeches ? What happened to leeches in the river? Dude got in the water and came out with his clothes dry. He had a gash in his leg, got into the water... parasites ...haven't even started naming the possibilities of what could go wrong.
-The poor lion .. battered and bruised out for revenge . I feel insulted on behalf of Mr. Lion who was a better actor than all of them combined together .
Martin shouldn't have died either. He was the only one who has some common sense .
What a waste of time. Oh!!!! Don't forget they were overdressed int he savanna.
I can't even start describing how big the paw of a lion is , that scene at the end where Nate fought .... Smh.... Do you realise how big a lion/tiger/jaguar paw is? Impossible for him to fight like that ...
Kindly leave Lions and any animals out of crappy movies please . Thank you .
The Stepmother (2022)
Decimated my brain cells
Wasted an hour and change which I could have used to pick out some razor bumps .Acting was horrible, better off watching water going down the drain. Some people were born actors , others were born to stick to their lane.
