Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
Fun fabulous animated Star Trek
A 'tongue in cheek' cartoon version of Star Trek that is awesome. They trek their way around space with lots of weird and wonderful experiences. Love how the opening sequence "grows" with each episode. Fun to look back to the first episode to compare the changes. The lead actors play semi believable characters with great personalities. Lots of guest appearances from previous versions of star trek which helps tie in cartoon and real life performances. And lower decks even makes a guest appearance in Strange New World... Probably my favourite show of all . Highly recommend... Can't wait for season 5.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Those Old Scientists (2023)
Strange but fabulous
Wow, at first i thought i was watching the wrong series, with it starting in animation from the "star trek, lower decks" series. Wow oh wow, what a surprise and an immense treat. Nothing liked I expected. I laughed and giggled at all the hidden little Easter eggs and references to Star trek old and new. Had never thought of watching "lower decks" until now, and now I really want to see that series as well, to get another insight into all the different kinds of "Star trek". Extremely well written and directed, and an enormous change from the usual kind of story. So excellent i would give it 100 out of ten. Love love loved it :)
The Midwich Cuckoos (2022)
Children of the corn - reinvented - yeah right
Started off okay, and seriously went downhill. It's like a rehash of "children of the corn". By episode 3 or 4 it lost any believability. Out of fairness i watched till the end, but wished i never had. Okay acting, okay cinematography, (didn't like the lighting that much, but that built the atmos). Too me it required the dull lighting, the sad sombre background music and foley sounds to breed it's atmos and create the feel the writers wanted, but,,,, okay i guess some people like it, but not me ... Horses for courses, one man's meat is another man's poison, and so on ... Glad i never worked on it.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Wow way better than i expected
First off, apologies to Kate Winslet, she is such a good actress that in her early movies i didn't like her that much. That's good acting. And in this series i didnt even realize she was the lead actress for a while until the 3rd episode i watched the credits. I was hooked. Kate, your an excellent actress. Way better than i could have ever imagined. And to all the crew, director, writers, producers, thankyou for producing an amazing series. I take my hat off to all of the cast and crew. The way it was shot, the story it told, the feeling of being absorbed by it. I forgot to be critical and thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in the story. Thank you for making me take off my work hat and enjoy being a thoroughly satisfied audience member. FYI i have worked in film and tv production most of my life. Thanks guys and girls. I loved your work :)))
Lost in Space (2018)
Good, but, really is a kidult series
Nice remake of a classic series. BUT, it really is best suited to teenagers/kidult. After watching the first season i kinda disliked it. Same for season 2. Kinda ho-hum. But now after watching 3 seasons, i realize i was judging this as an adult. Looking back and realizing it's more for teens, i will give it a higher rating. SFX are amazing. The quality of cinematography is very good (love all the lens flare's - reminiscent of old school cameras). The acting is well, over acted. But for kids that's great. And the story finishes well. Stuck it out to the end. It was worth it :)
