Unbelievable

Warning: Spoilers
I've had Netflix for years and I would always browse the streaming service and usually ignore Trollhunters. Why? Because I saw it as an uninspired cartoon. I mean, look at it. This could have been an annoying TV-Y7 fantasy series.

Now, this show follows some cliches, thats for sure.

---HOWEVER---

It is beyond any animated series I've ever watched. The premise is pretty standard, the main character is introduced as your typical, good-hearted teenage boy who longs for something more in his life. Sure. But the execution is just fantastic. You learn so much about these characters as the story progresses. Jim, the main character, is very fleshed out and real. He is goodhearted, but instead of coming off as bland or like a gary-stu, he is endearing. He is consistent throughout the entire series, solely driven by his motives, which causes him to make many mistakes. The show does an amazing job of conveying the hardships of being the Trollhunter, and Jim contemplating WHY he was chosen. His relationship with his mother is heartwarming & wholesome. I could write an essay about why..but...I should probably keep this review brief (well....brief ISH.)

SPOILER:

One more thing. This show does a PHENOMINAL job of showing more, and telling less when needed. One of the most shocking, heartwrenching scenes (Draal's death) tore me apart because it really showed the emotion within the moment.

There are other characters, other reasons why this show is an unexpected masterpiece. If you haven't already, WATCH THIS SHOW!

The Unique Star Wars film
4 March 2021
A standout from any other star wars film I have ever watched. The way the plot is so nonexistent is so fascinating. So little happens in this film that the writers are forced to weave in some bizzare animation sequences and dance numbers, sort of like they were intending to make the movie longer without having to try. the character development is not even there. I guess it works because the characters are so artificial and creepy that you want them blown up by the death star before the next scene anyway. This film has a different goal to make the audience want to strangle themselves to escape sitting through this thing. And the final act is so fascinatingly uninteresting it actually manages to do something that no Star Wars film has done before:

Hide and never be brought up by ANYONE.

Studio C (2012– )

One of the BEST (but not anymore.)
26 February 2021
This sketch comedy show created by Matthew Meese and Jared Shores is the longest running series on BYU TV. Sort of like SNL, this show has people perform comedy skits and it used to be hilarious. Unlike SNL however this show delivers family-friendly content, and somehow for 9 seasons the original cast & crew managed to come up with fresh ideas that were hilarious. However in 2019, most of the people who worked on it left the show, including the cast members. So seasons 10+ are the NEW cast and crew. I am not trying to be biased to the old cast, I swear I started season 10 with an open mind to these people, and while season 10 was okay, the show started to REALLY go downhill from there. The show is on it's 13th season, and as of right now, the content is TERRIBLE. Honestly the sketches just get dumber and DUMBER after each one. I'm not exaggerating here, people! Most of the sketches nowadays are either a dumb gag or catchphrase that is repeated over and over again OR a remake of a sketch that's already been made. And whenever it IS something different, its usually either just the cast screaming their heads off for 3 minutes with no actual joke. I'm not even kidding. A good example of this is probably Women Supporting Women, just look it up on the Studio C YouTube Channel (its probably the worst sketch yet.) Honestly I know that there is talent in this cast, but these stupid sketches are just putting that talent to waste. I don't really think Studio C even understands its demographic anymore either. Its becoming less family friendly and more kid friendly. So no one over the age of 4 will probably enjoy it. I don't know who the writers are, but they obviously fail to understand the basic structure of a joke. ALSO, they completely over do it with the special effects, and I mean REALLY. They completely overdo it to a point where it looks more like a broken sci-fi nickelodeon teenage sitcom catastrophe threw up onto a Descendants Movie spinoff.

I would say play this since its on netflix, but honestly, despite the nostalgia I have for the original game, its actually pretty forgettable. Still love Petra and Ivor tho.

I just finishes watching Soul, and I realized something about that movie and this one
30 December 2020
So when I watched Soul on Christmas I was pretty underwhelmed. Then I remembered back in March when I watched THIS film. And I've gotta say, this one was ABOVE expectation. Yeah, that's right. I was expecting this to be some of Pixar's weakest content but it turns out, this was a little more meaningful to me than Soul was, despite having a much weaker premise. While it's no Up or Inside Out, I would definetly recommend this one. It was pretty good.

it's fine but....
30 December 2020
Meh. I had really high expectations for this one and unfortunately it was nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. I was excited for this movie's original story, breathtaking animation, unique and deep theme, and all of that. But unfortunately I thought that I was about to watch an entirely different film. Ngl while the pacing was weird, the first 30 min or so was interesting, but it really lacked after that. I wanted to explore more of the main character's life, but it didn't really show any of that at all. This film was original, sure, but it has nowhere near other masterpieces such as Inside Out and Coco. All in all, 7/10, but because this was Pixar, it was a little dissapointing.
