Amazing Documentary Series!
I absolutely loved this series. I wish I could find a place to purchase them, but haven't found anywhere that carries them except Laissez Faire Books. In this series, Milton goes into all sorts of issues, and examines all kinds of things your average guy probably wouldn't consider at first glance - but are present. He examines the hidden costs and effects of all sorts of government programs and regulations that many others are readily accepting. The series covers a wide range of topics involving everything from international trade to school choice, and everything in between. I couldn't recommend it highly enough, and the discussions following the videos by economists and of course Milton Friedman himself are simply spectacular! I can't recommend this series to you highly enough, especially if you are interested in politics/economics.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Forced to Give It a 9
*May Contain Spoilers* Okay, on with the review. I find myself compelled to give this movie a 9 for the things I did like in it. I didn't care for the humor attempts in the movie, like Arnold telling the gas station attendant to talk to the hand or whatever, or when he put on those star-sunglasses in the beginning. I think these movies should remain serious, and shouldn't be tainted with stupid humor, but that's just my opinion. Outside of this, I thought the female terminator could have (and should have) been a lot more attractive. Further, I wished that the actor who played John Connor in T2 was used again to make T3. The new guy just couldn't replace the old John Connor (not that the new guy's performance was THAT bad, its just he can't replace the original). The other thing I didn't really care for that comes to mind was how quick the new T-100 terminator got his sass mouth. The old terminator was much more serious, and had to be coached by the then-young John Connor before he picked up his attitude. The T-100 seemed to do this with very little if any provocation whatsoever from John or John's spouse. Aside from that, sex would be good.. between John and his spouse, and it didn't happen. It shouldn't be raunchy or distasteful, but should be passionate and emotional - and done in a way to further the film. Aside from all these shortcomings I saw in the film, (I kind of think there were more I am forgetting), I have to rate this a 9 because it wasn't a non-enjoyable movie, and there were some qualities that I liked to it, such as the twilightzone-like thoughts that come to mind when one thinks about time travel and all the wondefully interesting ideas to play around with that seem to follow the subject around.
Day of the Dead (1985)
Warning: Possibly contains spoilers!
------Warning, possibly contains spoilers!------- I loved this movie. Simply spectacular, and a must-see for zombie film lovers, and people who just like to think. I did not like it quite as much as Dawn of the Dead, but it was still a simply amazing movie. How it got a 6.7 average is beyond me. I liked the ending, but thought it could have been better. I think the main reason I prefer Dawn was due to that little part of me that just loves the idea of holing up inside a mall with a bunch of guns, ammo, food, and just having fun. Nonetheless, though this does not happen in this movie, it was still a great watch nonetheless. I did not find the movie particularly frightening, so much as it was somewhat shocking, due to the huge amounts of gore. I have to say, I think this was one of the bloodier if not the bloodiest of the movies. The movie brings up some very interesting things that are certainly worth thinking about, and questions we should ask for the sake of bettering ourselves and society generally. Once again, I find myself looking for the huge differences between ourselves, and Romero"s zombies.
Army of Darkness (1992)
Overall, good movie.
The only reason I'm giving this movie a 9 instead of a 10 is that there was occasionally some stupid humor in the movie... of course there were some good bits of humor in it, but some of it wasn't to my taste. Overall, an excellent movie, and a classic imo. If you haven't seen it yet, you should. Go rent Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and this (Evil Dead 3) aka Army of Darkness. Amazing movie, though not everything made sense to me. What a fun movie. I can't really think of words to put it in. It isn't really like any other movies I have seen, yet it is definitely worth seeing. At first, I was reluctant to watch it, but my friends pushed me along, and I'm happy they did.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
It Surpassed My Expectations
At the instant I found out Ashton Kutcher (not sure if I'm spelling his name right or not) was in this movie, I thought it was going to be silly. At first, due to all the hilarity of all the other films he was in, I couldn't properly see him in his place in the film. This didn't last long, however, as he actually did surprisingly well, even for his character. After a while - that all faded away entirely, and I was more or less absorbed by the Butterfly Effect. Ahh, what a great movie. If you haven't seen this one yet, it is most definitely worth a watch. I might be rating it a bit high due to the fact that I thought it would be a waste of my time, but what can I say, I thought it would be terrible, and I walked out *more* than satisfied. A great movie, and definitely worth a watch. I recommend it.
The Green Mile (1999)
Amazing Movie!
This movie was amazing. I don't typically like or watch drama type films, but this was quite an experience as far as movies go. I highly recommend you all go see this if you haven't already. This movie certainly deserves a 10. Two thumbs up for a real classic movie. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will possibly be changed. Such a superior movie like this is quite a rarity, and isn't something to be missed. I highly recommend this movie. It is worth the time to go see it. You will not regret it. A movie that is quite simply this amazing doesn't come by very often. You don't want to miss this. What are you waiting for? Go see The Green Mile.
Office Space (1999)
Absolutely HILARIOUS!
Ready to laugh out loud until your stomach hurts? You will! This movie was definitely one of the funniest movies I have ever seen in my life. Absolutely hilarious. You won't be bored, and the comedy is pure classic. Simply unbelievable. If you enjoy laughing, you must see this movie. Anyone who has ever had to work in an office could appreciate seeing this film. I can't give this enough praise. I'm thinking of buying this so I can watch the classic parts over and over... oh my. The acting is great as well. The storyline was great too. It really makes one think... in mischievous ways. I highly recommend this movie. 10/10, two thumbs strait up!
Innocents Betrayed (2003)
You must see this movie!
Unless you are into politics and history, you won't really 'want' to see this movie like it is any other film.. treat it like what it is - a documentary. It is a very important documentary, because people must learn about what happened in the past, so they can prevent recurrences of past tragedies in the future. It is important that people see this movie so that they are more educated, and aware of the significance of the gun debate. Gun rights and the 2nd amendment isn't about hunting or sportsmen, although those are both perfectly legitimate activities. The real purpose behind the 2nd amendment gets discussed in this movie, and the film will reveal to any intelligent person who enjoys history and understands why it is important why gun control must be rejected.
Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)
Superior Movie!
I actually thought (at first glance of the title) that this movie would horribly suck, and be an absolute waste of my time and money. I could not have been more wrong. This movie turned out to be a favorite. The story is wonderful, and the scenes and music go along with it in a near-perfect way. If you like action, they threw in a good deal of that as well. Definitely a must-see movie. I have not seen Vol.1 yet, but I surely intend to, as soon as it comes in at the movie store. I'm not really sure what all to say of it without revealing the plot and story. The star of the show is beautiful.. and deadly, yet an interesting character. Uma Thurman does a great job in her role here. Incidentally, the same guy had a hand in making this movie, as helped make Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino). What a great movie.
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003)
Waste of My Time
I saw this movie a while ago. This movie was possibly the most awful movie I have ever seen in my life. Unbelievable. I highly recommend that nobody goes to see this... it is really terrible. How did this movie get over a 5? Really.. a 5? This is ridiculous. I remember bad jokes from this movie, that tried to be funny, but were just... not. Then the movie just went on and on with more and more loads of bad jokes, boredom,, and about halfway through I just stopped watching it. It was terrible. Stuff like this is the reason I am so hesitant to try new movies... and this reinforced that habit in me by what seemed like tenfold. If you want a good comedy, I recommend Super Troopers. Far superior to this trash.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
New Favorite Movie...
I can't say this enough. This movie rules! This version is far better than the 2004 remake(although both are superior movies). I saw the Unrated Director's cut edition of this movie. I'd recommend it definitely. More gore, more blood, more violence, all the good stuff.
This movie is classic. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It is just one of those movies you'd like to own for yourself. An absolute must see for everyone - be they zombie movie lovers, or just average people. This movie is a sure classic, and will be one of your favorites.
This movie, like the 04 version, is pretty 'engaging' from the start. You won't be bored a single second in the movie. It is all good stuff.
Red Dawn (1984)
Good Movie... but
I liked the movie, but the special effects weren't very good, and it didn't sound very real. Good concept though. They should remake the movie, and just try to do a better job I think. As far as the plot and stuff goes, and the messages of the movie, it was great, it just needs to be remade, updated, and made more 'real'.
Some people apparently seem to think this stuff in the movie couldn't happen, but I hear many prominent military folks say it could, and there really isn't anything wrong with being prepared. A great movie for gun enthusiasts. If you ever had doubts about gun control, you may want to see this. It does the 2nd amendment credit.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Simply Classic. A must-see movie!
If you like zombie movies, you should start with the good old original.. This is the movie that started it all. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, as you might expect, the special effects and such are pretty bad, as the movie is so old. Nonetheless, I still say it is a must-see. Special effects aren't all there is to a good movie, after all. There are many great things about this movie, and many of the underlying concepts are great, and the movie came at an interesting point in history for these to be given to the public, in my opinion. Even if you don't like horror films, zombies, or any of the other things you'd expect to see in a movie like this, you should see it just for its more or less classic elements, such as the aforementioned underlying concepts.
I can't wait to see the 90's remake.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
A+ Movie!
This is a great movie. I haven't seen the original 1978 one, so I can't say whether or not this is a "good" remake of the '78 version. However, since I haven't seen the '78 version, I am coming at this movie from a totally clean slate, and can tell you that, this movie, by itself, not considering the '78 version (obviously) is a great movie. I was on the edge of my seat for just about the entire movie, and enjoyed every minute of it. Once it was done, I just wanted to see more, and more. I had never seen a zombie movie before, and didn't know they could be so fun.
I highly recommend this movie. It may not be as good as the classic, or it may be better (I don't know), but it is a good movie either way. Very entertaining.
