Civil War (2024)
Not a complete waste of time, but close.
After viewing the trailer and reading the screener reviews I had high hopes for an exciting, action packed film that would also make one think and provide good dialog after viewing.
Unfortunately, it had and provided none of the above.
It moved very slowly and there was far too much unnecessary dialog between the characters that accomplished nothing.
The reasons for the war are never discussed, the warring parties are not explained (Texas and California teamed up... really??) What about the other 48 states? (Less DC which seems to be the "other" side). Two vingiettes in the middle show "redneckish" types killing civilians while another group kills POWs. There is no good side or bad. No one to root for at all but the one older reporter. What is the job of the one guy who works for Reuters? He never carries a camera or anything. Poor comic relief?
The young girl they pick up would have been killed a dozen times exposing herself to gunfire. And why do the combatants that the reporters are following allow them to intermingle with the soldiers during a live firefight? That's absolutely ridiculous from a safety and security perspective.
Regardless of the unrealistic nature of almost every aspect of the film, the completely missing character development, the massive holes in the plot and backstory, it was simply boring. Lastly, even in a waste of a film like this, there has to be someone, anyone that you root for or at least remotely like. That character, although it's marginal, the single voice of reason for the group dies.
My 3 stars is generous because it's nice to see Kristen Dunst back onscreen .
Joe Pickett (2021)
Don't watch if you've read the books.
Unfortunately, as is so often, when an author and/or their publisher sells the rights to a book or series of books to a TV or movie production company, the product they produce is a huge to massive disappointment.
With "Joe Pickett", it is a massive disappointment.
The issues began during the first episode and just continued to the current season two. The casting is ridiculous on several levels. The lead is not as described by CJ Box, his wife isn't close. Nate is about as opposite as the book's character as one can get. Every character is not as described in the book series. Think Tim Roth as Thor.
The storyline are barely recognizable and deviate tremendously from the books.
I realize Mr. Box was paid handsomely for the rights, but he owes his loyal readers for all the money they made him prior to this mess.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Great start, then lost it's way
We accidentally stumbled across this show early on in season one and loved it. Sure it was hokey, improbable and silly, but Ted's character and his sidekick 'The Beard" were wonderful.
The entire season one was just pure fun and we couldn't wait for season two.
Season two was good, but there was a definite drop-off in the quality of writing and it branched into too many side stories and it lost it's way. None the less, it was still watchable and we hoped that perhaps, if there was a season three they showrunners would find their way back to the original fresh and humorous plot that made season one so fun.
Well, unfortunately, the show has decided to follow story lines that have nothing to do with the original plot. The best way to describe it is that the producers decided to hire Shonda Rhimes to write the script and direct the storylines.
Sappy, silly, unnecessary topics and entire episodes dedicated to characters and events that are uninteresting, boring and cause the viewer to become very acquainted with the fast-forward button.
Hopefully Jason and the crew will find their way back if there is a season four.
