And a typical Noiret. I like him, and still, he can only play himself. Sophie Marceau is better than I had expected. Very beautiful. She also plays that specific daughter very well.
And yet, in the end I always walk away dissatisfied. Tavernier doesn't seem to be able to direct a straightforward movie. Sometimes this makes a film so special, in this case the rumbling along on a bumpy plot with short sequences kills the full potential of the plot and the actors.
Maybe the best part are the very beautiful images of nature, like in the very beginning. Of the actors we don't usually see much more than a spotlight before the next scene pops up.
This movie is too full of various topics. Is it on women's lib? Father and daughter? Supposed to be a comedy? A love story? Some historical piece on pre-revolutionary France?
A bit of this and a bit of that. Though it could have become a holistic movie, colourful. Alas, it didn't.
