Everything's Gone Green (2005)
excellent short film
this was showing late night at the L.A. Int'l Short Film Fest. I thought about skipping it. Fortunately I stayed. It was exceptional! The cinematography is great, but what I truly loved about the short are the lead characters. Dynamic chemistry between Linklater and Holden. I love the scene where Rosemary mimics the silent William on the rooftop. Alexandra Holden does a great job as Rosemary. She is so adorable. The William character is quirky and very likable as well. Definitely see this if it happens to be at a film fest near you! It really is one of the best films I've seen in 2005. Wonderful job overall by writer/director Aaron Ruell. Yes, Kip Dynamite from you know what.
Film School Confidential (2002)
Entertaining movie
Solid debut film by writer/director Underdahl. It is a nice blend of comedy and drama with terrific performances by the five main characters. Cute scene where the students recite movie dialogue in order to get their beer cup. The strength of the movie lies in the characters. All are compelling and likable. Funny and clever too how the director has the characters reciting the same dialogue in a different manner. Some shots occasionally are out of focus, but for a film budget of only $75,000, the film looks darn good. I'll take this movie anytime over dumb Hollywood films such as Pluto Nash or Swimfan.
Crossroads (2002)
Some good laughs
I am not going to state how bad this film is because I don't want to be redundant. I rented this flick strictly for laughs and it delivered. My personal favorites:
This is Britney's actual dialogue during the emotional scene where her friend Mimi is pouring her heart out and telling her that she lost her baby and wanted to be a mother. Britney's lines during that scene: "Hey" then "Yeah", followed by "Okay" and finally "Yeah". I had to rewind and watch it again because it was so funny! There is also a very inappropriate part during this scene where Britney tries to touch Mimi to comfort her and then Mimi snaps back, "Don't touch me!" Britney then deliveres that third line, "Okay".
So much for editing: When Mimi and Kit are walking up the stairs so Kit could see her college boyfriend, Mimi stumbles delivering her line. At this point the director already gave up and was thinking, "God, I hope I did not ruin my career by taking this project."
Even the lip synching in the end where Brit is auditioning is so bad. Jeez, I mean she could've at least sang LIVE! If she screwed up, then they could just reshoot the scene.
If you are studying film editing and screenwriting, definitely rent this! You will be laughing out loud!
I'm thinking minus all the scenes where they are singing along with the radio during the road trip, the story would take 30 minutes.
Overall, this is good to rent if you're a person like me who every now and then likes to rent films to enjoy bad dialogue, acting, editing and directing.
The Green Mile (1999)
Powerful film that will win Oscars
This is a movie that the entire human race should see. Wonderful story, incredible performances by Michael Clarke Duncan, Doug Hutchison, Michael Jeter and, of course, Tom Hanks. Hutchison's character (Percy Wetmore) is so detestable that it ranks as one of the most evil in film history. "The Green Mile" is a very intense and moving film that will win some Oscars.
