Deceiver (1997)
Hmmmm...
This movie made me think. I had trouble understanding it, I caught some of the stuff at the end, but the reason for it eluded me. I liked the style, the acting etc. especially Tim Roth. Rene Z. was quite good even though her role wasn't huge. The man who played "Roswell" was VERY good. Maybe I should read the script, maybe THEN I'd get a clearer picture of the reason why. Don't get me wrong, I like movies with ambiguous endings, but this ending seemed more muddled than ambiguous. I suppose the situation depicted in the film wasn't supposed to be clear. I found myself trying to find a reason, or a non-reason for the ending. Still pondering....
Ride with the Devil (1999)
interesting ride
It was an interesting take on the War Between the States. Most of the films made about it recently seem to have dealt a lot more with slavery related issues but this one seems more about being in the war and dealing with the ramifications if it. The accents were a bit funny, not really bad, just amusing. The reason I went to see it was because the talented & lovely Johnathan Rhys Meyers is in it. He is quite lovely in it. Long tresses...but he is quite malicious. Jewel surprised me, her acting isn't that bad! Tobey McGuire's performance is sedated, and maybe it was meant to be like that, actually most of the actors did a great job but there seems to be something missing from it. Not a terrible movie, not a great one.
London Kills Me (1991)
special
I rented this movie , just seeing it there on the shelf. I had no idea what to expect. I watched it and thought it was wonderful. Clint is very adorable, very lost, very determined. He is trying to get out and all that matters is his pair of nice shoes. He has transferred all his hopes for a new life and a future outside of drugs in this one very simple thing. Its a beautiful concept. The other characters left me wanting more, but yet being satisfied with that feeling. I was left with the feeling of respect for tiny things that I take for granted sometimes and a great respect for a good pair of shoes or as Clint would say a "cute boot"!
Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957)
give it a rest
I am sick of people calling this the worst movie ever made. This movie has more than a lot of the big-budget films made nowadays...it has character! Sure it was cheaply made, filmed in four days, the set was falling over, but despite all of that it prevailed with CHARACTER! It makes me laugh...
