Former Warner Bros. Discovery Emea boss Priya Dogra has joined Comcast-owned Sky in the newly-created role of chief advertising and new revenue officer.
At Sky, Dogra will report to Sky’s chief business officer Nick Herm and will sit on Sky’s executive management committee. She will work closely with rett Aumuller, managing director of Sky Media on growing the advertising sales division, developing non subscription revenue streams and building long-term relationships with Sky’s partners.
Dogra, who was with Wbd for 14 years, exited the company last summer, just a year after the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia. She had previously held a similarly senior role at WarnerMedia, which also covered Asia (excluding China).
Following her departure, Emea leadership were told to report directly to Gerhard Zeiler, Warner Bros. Discovery president of international.

The first trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine smashed global records back in February by scoring 365 million views in 24 hours, and the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut has now broken another pre-release record.
Tickets went on sale earlier this week with a new teaser (check it out below), and the CEO of AMC Theaters, Adam Aron, has now announced that the superhero team-up movie sold more tickets on day one than any other R-rated movie in the company's history.
This is just one theater chain, of course, but AMC is the biggest in the world, with the largest share of the U.S. theater market ahead of Regal and Cinemark.
The prospect of seeing Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson joining forces with Hugh Jackman's Logan is clearly a huge draw, and while it obviously remains to be seen how the movie ultimately performs at the box office, this is a very good sign.

Today, Paramount+ announced that Academy Award winner Holly Hunter will star in the upcoming original series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy.
The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the galaxy’s most legendary places. Produced by CBS Studios, it will begin production later this summer.
“It feels like we’ve spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius,” said co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. “To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across-the-board brilliance leading the charge on Starfleet Academy is a gift to all of us and to the enduring legacy of Star Trek.”

The Star Trek universe, cosmic ballet that it is, goes on — in addition to a film franchise reboot from Simon Kinberg, Paramount has announced a new live-action series starring (holy crap) Holly Hunter, titled Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Hunter, late of Mr. Mayor and Succession (though she has more credits than we can count), will play the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy. "It feels like we’ve spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius,” said co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau (Nancy Drew) of the Emmy and Oscar winner. “To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across the board brilliance leading the charge on Starfleet Academy is a gift to all of us, and to the enduring legacy of Star Trek."...

Before the debut episode of Friends aired on NBC in 1994, director Jimmy Burrows took the cast on a trip to Las Vegas.
"He handed us each a couple hundred bucks and said, ‘Now go into the casino and go gamble because this is the last time you’ll be able to walk into a casino anonymously,’" Jennifer Aniston recalled in a 2019 interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
"And we had no clue what he was talking about. And sure enough, that was the last time we were able [do that].”
Such was the power of network television in the '90s.
Six unknown young actors could transform overnight into a half-dozen A-listers, entirely on the strength of one popular primetime sitcom.
Eventually, those unknowns would become the highest-paid actors in the history of television, pocketing over $1 million per episode.
Years later, along with costar Reese Witherspoon, Aniston would break her own record, earning $2 million...

From the truly iconic Curb Your Enthusiasm to Veep, HBO has always had a taste for a good comedy, but still fails to get the right image of a channel in the eyes of the audience. In people's minds, as the home of The Sopranos, Succession, Game of Thrones and Euphoria, HBO will forever remain a dark channel with nothing to laugh about.
Granted, the comedies that HBO produces are also full of sarcasm and dark humor, but they're still just as entertaining and hilarious as CBS's family-friendly sitcoms. Hopefully, with this new project that combines some legendary names in the sitcom field, the network will attract even more people looking for a good laugh.
What Is HBO’s New Steve Carell Show?

Director and showrunner Mike Flanagan has always been a "listener" when understanding the human condition.
While his genre of choice has been horror, and primarily psychological horror at that, he has made a career out of listening to what people have to say about religion, guilt, insanity, and death.
He is as much a spiritual guru as a movie director.
Even from his early works, like Absentia and Oculus, one could see Flanagan as a visionary and an interactive designer, determined to deliver the audience an experience they crafted, a game, a nightmare they could vicariously live through archetypical characters.
He became even more crowd-pleaser with his first two ghostly mini-series, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
These epic haunted tales blurred the lines between guilt and fear.

Jeremy Strong in The Apprentice Rumored to Have 'Oscars Potential' after Cannes Premiere - Main Image
Shortly after Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, rumors began circulating that Jeremy Strong's performance as Roy Cohn could have real Oscars potential.
Starring McU's Sebastian Stan as the former US President and Succession's Jeremy Strong as the mysterious US lawyer who helped Trump rise to power, The Apprentice has been one of the most highly anticipated Cannes releases this year.
Jeremy Strong Plays the Man Who Shaped Trump
Directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, The Apprentice tells the fictionalized story of former US President Donald Trump's real estate career in the 1970s and 1980s.
Jeremy Strong, best known for his long-running role as Kendall Roy in the critically-lauded drama Succession, depicts Roy Cohn, a much more cunning mentor than the likes of Kendall in the HBO series.

Filmmaker Ali Abbasi has responded to the Trump campaign’s threat to sue over his movie The Apprentice, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday night to an eight-minute standing ovation.
“Everybody talks about him suing a lot of people — they don’t talk about his success rate though, you know?” Abbasi said Monday morning in France, drawing laughs from the crowd at the first press conference for The Apprentice.
The director acknowledged Trump’s likely assumptions around the movie, saying, “If I was him, I would be sitting in New Jersey, Florida or wherever he is now — or New York — and I would be thinking, ‘Oh, this crazy Iranian guy and some, like, liberal c—- in Cannes, they gathered and they did this movie and it’s fucked up.'”

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is hitting back following the premiere of the controversial film “The Apprentice,” which chronicles the 2024 presidential candidate’s early years as a real estate developer.
“We will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers,” the Trump campaign’s chief spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement to Variety. “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked. As with the illegal Biden Trials, this is election interference by Hollywood elites, who know that President Trump will retake the White House and beat their candidate of choice because nothing they have done has worked.”
Cheung’s statement continues, “This ‘film’ is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-dvd section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store, it belongs in a dumpster fire.

If you’re not caught up on your peak TV viewing, consider this your spoiler warning. Four months have passed since Jennifer Coolidge bagged her second consecutive Emmy for “The White Lotus” and thus became the eighth drama or comedy series regular honored by the TV academy for a season in which her character died. Emmy nominations of this kind have become quite common in recent years, and it’s possible that over 15% of the 2024 lead and supporting continuing series contenders will be added to the list.
The current consensus among more than 2,400 Gold Derby users is that five continuing series performers whose characters perished within the past year will receive Emmy nominations, while a few others have outside shots at recognition. This does not include characters like Anakin Skywalker who died before their shows’ latest seasons began but appear as ghosts or in flashbacks. Undead characters like most of...

The Taylor Swift as Dazzler rumors first began when the singer's likeness was used for the musical mutant's album cover in X-Men: Apocalypse. Nothing ever came of it back then, but the rumors persisted.
Speculation really kicked into overdrive when the pop megastar was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets game with Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) in 2023.
Levy was asked about the Dazzler rumors last year, and declined to confirm or deny Swift's involvement in the R-rated threequel.
“I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s McU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”
Earlier today, shortly after tickets for the movie went on sale, Reynolds was asked about a potential part for Swift.

Even in Cannes, it’s hard to avoid Donald Trump.
“The Apprentice,” the story of the 45th and possibly 47th president’s early years as a real estate developer, earned a eight-minute standing ovation on Monday. It’s probably safe to assume that the film festival crowd isn’t a Maga-heavy one, so it helps that “The Apprentice” paints a blistering portrait, focusing on Trump’s relationship with Roy Cohn, the McCarthy-ite lawyer and fixer who took an interest in the “the Donald” before he was a household name.
Sebastian Stan (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”) stars as Trump, Jeremy Strong (“Succession”) plays Cohn and Maria Bakalova (“Borat 2”) portrays Ivana Trump, the thrice-married president’s first spouse. Of all the various actors who've made their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sebastian Stan might be the one who's chosen the most interesting career path upon stepping outside of the superhero limelight. Stan hasn't exactly shied away from some of the more challenging and, occasionally, downright controversial roles out there, arguably beginning this little streak of sorts with director Craig Gillespie's "I, Tonya" in 2017. He followed this up with a supporting turn in Karyn Kusama's brutal "Destroyer," the bizarre horror/comedy "Fresh" (let's just say that movie packs a bite), and, of course, his Emmy-nominated performance as Tommy Lee in "Pam & Tommy," the Pamela Anderson-centric Hulu miniseries that stirred up no headlines whatsoever.
Not content to rest on his laurels, Stan promptly went and attached himself to a role that likely gave his agent no shortage of heart palpitations: a movie about Donald Trump's rise to infamy.

Marvel debuted a new 60-second promo (check it out here) and poster for Deadpool and Wolverine earlier today when tickets went on sale, and we now have an updated synopsis for the studio's "most significant mistake to date."
We've seen a few different versions (most likely placeholders for merchandizing purposes) of this logline already, but this is by far the most unserious yet!
“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," it reads. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

As a spin-off from such hits as The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth was set up for a successful start. However, it's the charm of lead actress Carrie Preston and the twisted mysteries she solves that keep people coming back for more. Though repetitive due to its formula, the show is highly entertaining and has kept many fans coming back for more.
While many viewers are hoping and praying for the second season so the show can have more creative freedom and add some variety to the stories, others are happy with what they're getting. Especially since Elsbeth isn't afraid to reference a show or two to make things more interesting for the most attentive fans.

A very impressive - and very bloody - independent fan-film has been shared online, and it reimagines Wolverine as a Viking warrior in Medieval times.
Directed by Godefroy Ryckewaert, the ultra-violent Logan The Wolf begins with a group of mercenaries approaching this far more ruthless and bloodthirsty take on the iconic mutant hero, who has been accused of brutally slaughtering anyone who encounters him - including women and children.
Logan, who refers to himself as "Fenrir's Fury," makes short work of his attackers in extremely gruesome fashion, before being approached by a man who offers to join forces so they can both rid the world of the human "animals."
We don't want to spoil exactly who this character is supposed to be, but be sure to keep watching for a short post-credits scene.

A little while ago, a hot rumor suggested that Emma Stone would be re-teaming with director Yorgos Lanthimos a remake of the South Korean classic, Save the Green Planet. Less than twenty-four hours after the triumphant Cannes premiere of their follow-up to Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness comes official word that the movie is indeed happening. The movie, which is now titled Bugonia, will also re-team Stone with her Kinds of Kindness co-star Jesse Plemons, whose performance in the film is generating awards buzz.
Here’s the official synopsis from distributor Focus Features:

“It’s f–ing hard to make a good airplane movie,” Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund emphasized multiple times Saturday morning in Cannes as he spoke to international press about his plans for The Entertainment System Is Down, the latest feature he has set to direct starring a buzzy cast led by Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl.
His follow-up to the Palme d’Or-winning satire Triangle of Sadness, The Entertainment System Is Down is another social satire, this time set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment systems fail, and an eclectic group of international passengers are forced to face the horror of being bored.
As we reported earlier this week, Östlund and his producer, Erik Hemmendorff, have purchased a real-life Boeing 747 where he told the press today he will mount the production over 70 days on a studio lot.
“We bought the plane and it was quite early in the process of the film.

“Succession” star Nicholas Braun is in talks to star in Ruben Östlund’s “The Entertainment System Is Down.” Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl are already on board the buzzy satire.
“The Entertainment System Is Down” is one of the sexiest packages being shopped at the Cannes Film Market, where the Coproduction Office has launched international sales. Östlund is on the ground in Cannes, where he previously won a pair of Palme d’Or trophies with “Triangle of Sadness” in 2022, and “The Square” in 2017.
Ostlund is set to present the project during an event for Swedish film fund Film i Vast Saturday.
Slated to start shooting next month, the movie takes place on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system fails and passengers are forced to face the horror of being bored. The exact plot of the movie remains under wraps, although it’s already known that it involves a cheating husband,...

A possible runtime for Marvel Studios' Deadpool and Wolverine has been revealed, and if accurate, it would make the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut the longest Deadpool movie yet.
According to an AMC Theatres listing, Deadpool and Wolverine will clock-in at 2 hours and 7 minutes. The previous film ran for 2 hours, while the first Deadpool was quite a bit shorter at 1 hour, 48 minutes.
In addition, some new international promo banners have found their way online. They reuse the images from previously-released posters, but pull back to let us see a little more of Wade Wilson and Logan.

American Fiction (Cord Jefferson)
Thelonious “Monk” Ellison is in a rut. He’s still trying to get a publisher to accept his latest book in a market that doesn’t exactly embrace his erudite style. His gig as a college professor lecturing to students that are too “goddamn delicate” to embrace thorny topics of race has him ostracized from colleagues. He’s estranged from family, all of whom are juggling their own issues––health problems, divorce, the financial strain that comes with both. When Monk concocts an elaborate joke to get more fame and acceptance, it’s taken shocking seriously, setting off a series of misadventures exploring how white America is more willing to accept the most reductive, pandering stories of Black...

You'd think that in an episode centered around a bar and its owner, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9 would have some sort of death by the drink, but in this episode, the murderer went with an oldie but a classic.
In "Sweet Justice," audiences meet Joe, the owner of an exclusive high-end bar who decides to take justice into his own hands by murdering one of his patron's bullies.
It would almost be sweet if his form of justice didn't involve homicide, oh, and killing the wrong woman.
Gracing the small screen this week for yet another familiar face is Arian Moayed.
Surprisingly, he did not already appear in The Good Wife or The Good Fight, but viewers might recognize him from Succession.
As for his character, anyone who frequents Netflix might notice some similarities between this Joe and another who also enjoys stalking women who have caught his eye in a little show called "You.

After months of speculation, the critical book has finally been opened on Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. The early word? Predominantly positive, with some very high highs and inevitably a few low lows.
Below, we run through some of the first reactions.
Deadline’s Damon Wise praised the movie, calling it a “mad modern masterwork that reinvents the possibilities of cinema”. He said the film is “something of a mess; unruly, exaggerated and drawn to pretension like a moth to a flame. It is also, however, a pretty stunning achievement, the work of a master artist who has taken to Imax like Caravaggio to canvas. It is a true modern masterwork of the kind that outrages with its sheer audacity.”
He continued: “Halfway through, there’s a very audacious gimmick that tears down the fourth wall in ways younger filmmakers can only dream of. Coppola breaks many of the cardinal...

StudioCanal on Thursday unveiled the acquisition of Ali Abbasi’s Cannes competition entry The Apprentice for the U.K. and Ireland, with a release planned for later this year. The film is an exploration of Donald Trump’s rise to power in 1980s America.
Directed by Abbasi and written by Gabe Sherman, the film stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee and Berlin Silver Bear winner Sebastian Stan (Pam & Tommy) as Trump; Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner Jeremy Strong (Succession) as his firebrand mentor Roy Cohn; Martin Donovan (Tenet) as Fred Trump Sr.; and Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) as Ivana Trump.

When Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set out to craft an epic series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, for the Netflix streaming service, they were hoping to get four seasons out of the material. But when the first season of 3 Body Problem started streaming in March and pulled in a sizeable but underwhelming number of views, some began to question whether or not Netflix would want any more episodes of the big budget show. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Netflix has indeed ordered more episodes – but just enough to allow Benioff, Weiss, and co-creator Alexander Woo to wrap up the story. Exactly how many episodes that will be has not yet been revealed.

Sitting at a capacious round table filled with half-a-dozen entertainment reporters, Gary Oldman describes himself as a fan of television. “Some of the best stuff you see is on your television screen,” he said. “I love long-form.”
Frankly, this isn’t the first time a movie star who’s new to television has praised the medium printing his paychecks. But Oldman — in a winding, hourlong conversation pegged to “Slow Horses,” his first TV role as a series regular — really does seem to love the visual art of serialized narratives. During the December luncheon (hosted by Apple in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood), he brought up a dozen shows, often unprompted, and even quoted his favorite line from “Succession” off the cuff.
“God, [Brian] Cox had one of the greatest lines when he said, ‘What is that smell in here? It’s like a cheesemonger died and left his cock in the brie,...

The television industry’s annual “upfront” is usually a place where advertisers get to preview new series and specials, not blockbuster movies, so NBC raised eyebrows Monday when one of the first previews it showed to an audience at Radio City Music Hall was of the coming Universal film “Wicked.”
NBCUniversal, chief content officer Donna Langley told the crowd, was “excited to build up our story legacy across film, TV and streaming.”
Movies and premium cable series from HBO and Showtime used to be something traditional TV advertisers got their hands on only after they had made their way through theaters and pay-tv windows. Now, as a batch of this year’s upfront showcases reveal, they are increasingly being dangled before Madison Avenue as a major reason to support TV companies.

It's about time Elsbeth lived her Sex & The City realness in the next episode. A round of cosmopolitans for the girls!

Phoebe Dynevor, star of TV’s Bridgerton, is in talks to star in Violent Night director Tommy Wirkola’s mysterious, untitled shark thriller.
Tommy Wirkola, director of festive action film Violent Night, is currently working on a thriller that involves sharks in some form, and said thriller could end up starring Phoebe Dynevor, previously of Bridgerton and Fair Play fame.
Dynevor is ‘in talks’ to star in Wirkola’s shark-based project according to Deadline, while further details are thinner on the ground than actual sharks. There’s no title to speak of and its plot is said to be “under wraps”; the concrete bit of information is that it’ll be produced by Hyperobject Industries, the production company founded by Adam McKay. It’s previously brought us such entertainments as Succession, The Menu and Don’t Look Up, the latter directed by McKay himself.

One thing that many people look for in TV series is an escape from the challenges of reality. Every person is surrounded by a lot of stress these days, so turning on the TV at the end of the day is the easiest way to forget about all the problems and get an easy endorphin or adrenaline rush without actually risking anything.
Of course, people who enjoy fantasy and the supernatural aren't looking for an ounce of realism in the shows they watch, they're much more interested in lore consistency and character design. Those who prefer shows that allude to real-life professionals or events, however, are divided. And CBS' new hit, Elsbeth, just goes to show that divide.
Is Elsbeth Based on Real Life?
Although the show is considered a spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, you don't even have to watch them to understand what Elsbeth is all about.

A study from Comcast shows how viewers are finding new television content in the age of peak choice.
Times have changed since the days when TVs had actual channel dials. If you wanted something to watch, you flipped on your set and switched between the five or six channels your rabbit-ears antenna picked up, then settled on a title or turned it off. Now, viewers have thousands of programming choices between TV channels and on-demand streaming services, and a new survey from Comcast has details regarding just how difficult those choices have become.
Key Details: Comcast found that more than 60% of American audiences search for six minutes or more for a new show or movie. Seeing a promotional ad for a program increases its tune-in rate by 228%. Over 50% of Americans say they’ve watched a show or movie after finding it on their smart TV home screen.

The 2024 BAFTA TV Awards very much celebrated the best of British TV tonight as the majority of big-name stars and more recognizable shows fell away to British shows and stars. The likes of “Succession” and “The Last of Us” went home empty-handed at the Royal Festival Hall. “Top Boy,” “The Sixth Commandment,” and “Such Brave Girls” claimed the three big prizes at the ceremony hosted by comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett.
“Top Boy,” Netflix’s hit show about two London drug dealers dealing with gang violence in East London, won Best Drama Series over “The Gold,” “Happy Valley,” and Emmy hopeful “Slow Horses.” Producers Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind came backstage to discuss their victory, which came for the fifth and final season of the fan favorite.

Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.
On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.
