Asmodexia director Marc Carrete returned to the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival this year with a little something new for audiences craving high end scares. Presented as part of the Pitchbox program, Carrete shared a proof of concept trailer for his upcoming, English language effort, After The Lethargy. And now that Sitges is wrapping up we are very pleased to offer it up to international audiences for the first time here. Sara (Andrea Guasch) travels to the hot spot where one of the most extraordinary contacts with extraterrestrials in history supposedly took place. Asmodexia, the Barcelona-set horror film from IFC Midnight, arrived in theaters and on VOD platforms last week and we’ve been provided with two new clips for Daily Dead readers who haven’t had a chance to check out the new exorcism movie.
“Asmodexia concerns Eloy de Palma, an exorcist pastor roaming the darkest corners of the country with his granddaughter Alba. Their mission is to help those possessed by The Evil One, an infection of the soul that is spreading fast, especially among the most vulnerable members of society: children, mental patients, and drug addicts. There is also a mysterious cult following them, making it more difficult to help those in need. Each exorcism is tougher than the one before, and every battle with Evil reveals a piece of young Alba’s forgotten past – an enigma that if unconcealed could change the world as we know it.”

Is it possible to be decidedly unsubtle and also maddeningly opaque? Marc Carreté's exorcism film Asmodexia threads that infuriating needle. In one of the first scenes, Eloy the traveling exorcist (Lluís Marco) and his granddaughter Alba (Clàudia Pons) discuss the literal meaning of their names — his means "man," hers means "dawn" — a sure sign that there's some heavy-handed symbolism in play. And yet it's almost impossible to tell precisely what's going on, or why, as the pair perform exorcisms around Barcelona and we're given a daily countdown to something called "the Resurrection." Some of that's intentional: There's a secret at the heart of Asmodexia, and Carreté keeps his tarot cards close to the vest. Hints ar...

It’s good for a grandfather and granddaughter to spend time with each other, and on their long journey, pastor Eloy de Palma and Alba are doing just that. But their travels are not leisurely. Philadelphia's Awesome Fest sounds… well… awesome. To be clear, though, it appears this is an evolution of the already-existent event, which is now being called The Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival. As you would expect with a name like that, Bruce Campbell will indeed be there as part of the four-day event in Rosemont, Il, where they'll also be screening a slate of horror titles curated by Scott Weinberg, horror maven and the resident critic at the just-killed FEARnet. They'll also have panels, and they've got some great ones planned. Overall, it looks like a really cool chance to see a fistful of the best of what indie horror has going on right now with bonuses that simply make the weekend better. From August 21 to August 24, you'll be able to check out some great films. How? Well, here's how they put it: Tickets for All screenings are free to attend...

Marc Carrete's new disturbing Spanish horror 'Asmodexia' is prepping itself for the upcoming international sales market in which its producers will be hoping to see it picked up. The movie follows the lives of exorcist (Eloy Palma) and his granddaughter (Alba) who are working together to force an entity known as 'The Evil One' out of those who appear to be possessed. A new one-sheet from the guys over at Twitch certainly brings attention to the religious overtones of the movies theme. 'Asmodexia' stars Lluis Marco, Claudia Pons, Silvia Sabate, Irene Montala, Albert Baro, Pepo Blasco and Mireia Ros. You can check out the new poster below....

There have been a number of demonic pregnancy films released of late. From Hell Baby (2013) to Devil's Due (2014) and even into the upcoming Delivery: The Beast Within (2014), there are enough films out there to excite any pregnancy fears. If these films are not enough, then Marc Carreté's Asmodexia will put you over the edge. A trailer for this film was released earlier in the year. And now, an official movie poster is available for the film (above). All of the publicity material suggests another devil baby being born! The story involves a travelling pastor. Eloy de Palma (Lluís Marco) exorcises the possessed, with his granddaughter Alba (Clàudia Pons). An evil force is spreading around Spain and only Eloy can stand up to this raging malevolence. Possessions increase in number and the Catholic Church is overwhelmed by the requests for exorcisms. Now, evil rules the land and one young woman's infested womb.

News out of Berlin today is that Toronto-based Raven Banner has acquired the international rights to Marc Carreté's debut feature, the exorcism horror film Asmodexia. Carreté has written and directed two short films prior to Asmodexia. He wrote this first feature with Mike Hostench, co-director of one of the largest and most important genre film festivals in the world, the Sitges Film Festival. About an hour north of Barcelona, an old tuberculosis hospital was converted to a large film studio, the Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya. Fans of Spanish horror film have likely seen several films shot there, and the most recent film in production is Asmodexia. The first feature film directed by Marc Carreté, written by Carreté and Mike Hostench (co-director of the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival), the studio's former use has served useful for some scenes of the film, which I was able to visit recently.Asmodexia tells the story of a grandfather and granddaughter exorcist team, who travel the Barcelona area plying their trade.
