Ariana Grande is commenting on the allegations made by former Nickelodeon stars in the ID docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
The Wicked star appeared on a podcast and looked back at her time on the sets of Victorious and Sam & Cat, calling for therapists to be “mandatory” on kid show sets. Grande also said that it was “devastating” to learn about the experiences that some of her colleagues had.
“I think the environment needs to be made safer if kids are going to be acting, and I think there should be therapists,” Grande said on the latest episode of Podcrushed. “I think parents should allowed to be wherever they want to be, and I think not only on kids’ sets. If anyone wants to do this, or music, or anything at this level of exposure, there should be in the contract something about therapy...

Marc Summers is speaking out about his experience being interviewed for ID’s “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” documentary. During an appearance on “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” the longtime host, said he was called and asked to be part of a doc about Nickelodeon. At the time he agreed, he didn’t know it was set to expose toxic behavior at the network.
“They asked me what I thought of Nick and the first 10 to 12 seconds, from what I understand, in this documentary, is me saying all these wonderful things. But they did a bait and switch on me,” Summers says in a sneak peek of the interview, set to go live on Friday. “They ambushed me. They never told me what this documentary was really about. And so they showed me a video of something that I couldn’t believe was on Nickelodeon.

For the first time, the so-called toxic environment at the cable channel Nickelodeon in the late ’90s and early aughts is being exposed on screen, in ID’s “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” docuseries. For years, directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz worked to make sources comfortable with the idea of talking about their experiences, sharing allegations of abuse, sexism, racism and inappropriate dynamics on sets — mostly under creator Dan Schneider.
“When we were first approached about this project, there was an undeniable passion behind the pitch. In working with an incredibly talented filmmaking team and the dedicated journalists at Business Insider, ‘Quiet On Set’ unearths revelations and sheds light on important survivor stories that needed to be shared after decades in the dark,” Tuner Networks, ID & Hln President Jason Sarlanis said in a statement to Variety.

Those of us who grew up watching Nickelodeon’s 90s slate of shows are about to be shocked to know how bad things actually were behind the scenes. When the kids’ network added more than cartoons and children’s entertainers/game shows to their schedule, it seemed like the channel was really reaching its audience by having shows for kids and featuring kids. It would make the network much hipper, and the man behind it all was Dan Schneider. Formerly a teen actor on the 80s sitcom Head of the Class, Schneider struck it big when he produced the sketch show, All That, which was in the vein of Saturday Night Live but with younger comedian performers.

The allegedly toxic environment behind Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon empire is now being uncovered in a four-part docuseries.
Amid allegations of abuse, Schneider’s legacy as the showrunner of hit series like “All That,” “iCarly,” and “Zoey 101” is being reframed. The ID documentary “Quiet on Set” exposes the dangerous culture behind some of the most iconic children’s shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Directed by Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz, “Quiet on Set” seeks to pull back the curtain on a controversial empire, built by creator Dan Schneider, that certainly had an undeniable grip on popular culture.
Per the official synopsis: “Series such as ‘All That’ and ‘The Amanda Show,’ among others, were obsessively consumed by children across the country and defined comedy for a generation. So long Carly: Paramount+ has decided not to renew the revival for a fourth season.
“The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together,” said a Paramount+ spokesperson. “We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors and producers along with the whole crew for their dedication, creativity and talent.”
iCarly stars Miranda Cosgrove as Carly, Jerry Trainor as Spencer, Nathan Kress as Freddie, Laci Mosley as Harper and Jaidyn Triplett as Millicent. The revival launched in June 2021. It picked up nearly 10 years after the original Nickelodeon show ended, finding Carly, the original influencer, and her friends navigating work, love and family now as adults.
The original iCarly series, produced by Nickelodeon, ran from 2007-12. Starring Cosgrove, Trainor, Kress and Jennette McCurdy, it followed a group of best friends creating a webcast while grappling with everyday problems and adventures.

Before Justin Bieber's "Journals," there was Ariana Grande's "Yours Truly."
It was Aug. 30, 2013, and Grande - who rose to fame on Nickelodeon's "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat" - suddenly emerged as a musical superstar with her debut album. Thanks to her dreamy voice and impressive range, the budding phenom, who was then 20 years old, proved she was so much more than just a teen star.
The album was a testament of how '90s R&b, hip-hop, pop, and doo-wop can complement one another. Paired with production by Babyface, The Rascals (Leon Thomas III and Khris Riddick-Tynes), Antonio Dixon, Harmony Samuels, Tommy Brown (aka TBHits), as well as cowriting credits from the aforementioned and Victoria Monét, Sevyn Streeter, Jordin Sparks, and Priscilla Renea (now Muni Long), "Yours Truly" was an instant victory. Dan Schneider is responsible for some of Nickelodeon's most popular shows. After starting his career in supporting onscreen roles in "Better Off Dead" and "Head of the Class," he began writing and producing the sketch comedy show "All That" in 1993 and eventually left to run "The Amanda Show" starring Amanda Bynes. He went on to launch "Drake & Josh" in 2004, followed by "Zoey 101," "iCarly," "Victorious," "Sam & Cat," "Henry Danger," and "Game Shakers," among others.
But in March 2018, his massively successful tenure at the network ended suddenly. A joint statement from Nickelodeon and Schneider read, "Following many conversations together about next directions and future opportunities, Nickelodeon and our longtime creative partner Dan Schneider/Schneider's Bakery have agreed to not extend the current deal," per The New York Times. The marketing of "Barbarian" has been extremely smart. It makes you believe that Bill Skarsgård's character has lured Georgina Campbell's character to this Detroit Airbnb, and perhaps some supernatural occurrences are happening in the basement of this home. Of course, when you see the film, that is not what is happening at all. Bill Skarsgård ends up dying at the end of the first act at the hands of a large, naked, middle-aged woman, who smashes his head against the stone corridor in the creepy basement. This woman, known simply as The Mother, comes to be the primary source of the thrills and chills of "Barbarian," even though we come to learn she is not the malicious being she first appears to be.

Daniella Monet is speaking out about the environment on Nickelodeon's "Victorious." Monet played Trina on the series alongside Ariana Grande, Elizabeth Gillies, and Victoria Justice. Monet was 18 when she started filming "Victorious," and all of her costars were younger.
On Aug. 30, Insider published an investigation into the work of "Victorious" creator Dan Schneider, who also produced Nickelodeon series like "Zoey 101," "Drake and Josh," "iCarly," and more. Jeanette McCurdy, who starred on "iCarly" and "Sam & Cat," recently spoke out about behavior on set of those shows by a person referred to as 'The Creator," in her memoir "I'm Glad My Mom Died," which some readers have interpreted as a reference to Schneider.
Monet told Insider that she previously reached out to Nickelodeon after filming a "Victorious" scene where she ate a pickle while applying lip gloss. She felt it was too sexual, but the network aired it anyway.

Across two decades, Nickelodeon hitmaker Dan Schneider has been at the center of hostile workplace allegations, #MeToo controversies, and now, the allegations that his tween-targeted shows overly sexualized its stars, among the likes of Amanda Bynes, Ariana Grande, and Jamie Lynn Spears.
“Sam and Cat” actress Jeannette McCurdy, who co-starred opposite Grande in the “iCarly” spinoff series, alleged in her memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” that a Nickelodeon “creator” (believed to be Schneider) frequently supplied children with alcohol and requested massages on set. McCurdy alleged she was offered 300,000 in “hush money” to not come forward about the abuse; she declined the payment. The claims mirror those that have followed Schneider for years, and the showrunner was fired by Nickelodeon in 2018 following an investigation that found he had verbally abused colleagues.

After the show signed off in 2012 following six seasons, McCurdy reprised the role in 2013 on Sam & Cat opposite Ariana Grande for its single-season run and then was a lead on the dystopian Netflix series Between.
But she moved on from acting after Between ended in 2016. McCurdy, 30, delves into her complicated relationship with her career, the spotlight and her mom, Debra McCurdy, who passed away from cancer in 2013, in her new memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, which has been quickly selling out since its release from Simon & Schuster on Aug. 9.

Jennette McCurdy’s new memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” finds the former Nickelodeon star getting brutally honest with her feelings on Ariana Grande, the music icon who briefly starred with McCurdy on the “iCarly” and “Victorious” spinoff series “Sam & Cat.” Grande’s pop star career started taking off during the filming of the show, which only ran for a single season on Nickelodeon.
McCurdy writes that she grew to resent Grande once she “regularly” missed filming “to go sing at award shows, record new songs, and do press for her upcoming album” (via Entertainment Tonight). McCurdy, on the other hand, was left to “angrily hold down the fort.”
“The week where I was told Ariana would not be here at all, and that they would write around her absence this episode by having her character be locked in a box. Are you. Kidding me,” McCurdy writes. “So...

“My heart starts beating fast. It makes me angry,” Jennette McCurdy told the Washington Post about experiences she says took place on the sets of Nickelodeon’s iCarly and Sam & Cat . McCurdy starred on the two shows between 2007 and 2014, both of which were created, written and produced by Dan Schneider.
The occasion for her interview is the publication, on Tuesday, of her book I’m Glad My Mother’s Dead from Simon & Schuster.
In the book, McCurdy details her tumultuous relationship with, and abuse by, her mother Debra, who died in 2013.
She also writes about someone she calls “The Creator” in relation to her time on the Nick shows. She says he was “mean-spirited, controlling, and terrifying” and prone to make “grown men and women cry with his insults and degradation.”
While she does not identify that person by name, she tells the Post that “it’s important to talk about.

Jennette McCurdy is reexamining her relationship with her late mom Debra McCurdy. The Nickelodeon star, who appeared on hit programs iCarly and Sam & Cat, opened up about her experience being raised in the spotlight by what she described as her controlling mother. "She worked really hard to keep our relationship very private," Jennette told The Washington Post. "I now see it as conditioning, but at the time I thought, 'Oh, Mommy and me have a relationship that's so special.' Like when you have a best friend and you have all these secrets and that feels like a form of intimacy. That's exactly...
