Frankenstein Meets Dracula (1957)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
Fun amateur movie from Don Glut has Dracula (Victor Fabian) bringing the Frankenstein monster (Glut) back to life and using hypnosis to keep it under control. Soon the monster kills a man but someone comes to destroy the monsters. At just 4-minutes one really shouldn't expect too much in terms of what happens but overall I found this to be a pleasant little film. The biggest key is that it's obvious Glut loved these monsters and wanted to show how much he did by making a movie and I think this love really shows on the screen. From the documentary about Glut I learned that this film was shot in his basement and this actually turned out to be a great location because it really did look rather rundown and eerie like you'd expect a castle to. The Frankenstein monster was Glut with a mask on but it's childish nature actually adds some charm to the film. The Dracula character doesn't look that bad either but I would have recommended a shirt change. Fans of the Universal monster movies will certainly want to check this out as there have certainly been much worse made.
