Hostel is coming to television.
Paul Giamatti has closed a deal to star in a Hostel TV series with the franchise’s Eli Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss all returning for the project from Fifth Season, the studio behind Apple TV+’s Severance.
The Hostel show, which is currently in development and does not yet have a platform attached, is described as being a “modern adaptation” and an “elevated thriller” that’s also a “reinvention” of the horror franchise that launched in 2006 and spawned two sequels.
Roth and Briggs will pen the script, with the former set to direct. Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will all executive produce the series.
The original movie revolved around three backpackers who were headed to a Slovak city that promised to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaited them.
Giamatti will star in a key role, with character details under wraps.

His days playing Aquaman may very well be over, but Jason Momoa isn’t exactly desperate to add more to his dance card. The affable, 6-foot-4 leading man co-created upcoming Apple drama Chief of War, which he’ll also topline, is set to star in the feature Minecraft adaptation, counts himself part of the Fast & Furious franchise and, come Jan. 18, launches his own Max docuseries.
On the Roam, an eight-part travelog, follows the actor over a three-year period during which he interviews artists, builders, guitar-makers and other craftspeople — Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash even makes an appearance — and at least once drives a motorcycle up a dusty hill at an incline that would make any studio exec who handles insurance reach for a paper bag. The product is a sensitive portrayal of men who appear very much in touch with their feelings despite their ostensibly macho lines of work.

Jason Momoa has acted in a number of well-received, high-grossing movies. Not every one of his projects can be a box office or critical success, though. Unfortunately for Momoa, one of his favorite on-set experiences became a mess once the cameras stopped rolling. He discussed why he thought the 2011 film Conan the Barbarian was a disaster.
Jason Momoa didn’t like the way one of his movies turned out
In 2011, Momoa starred in a remake of the 1982 film Conan the Barbarian. This was one of his early roles, and he immensely enjoyed the experience of filming it. Jason Momoa knows exactly what he's doing. On March 9, the actor and "Game of Thrones" alum promoted his new clothing collaboration by modeling the designs half-naked on Instagram, as one does. Momoa's video starts on a tame note as he shows off a just-released lavender T-shirt bearing a triangle pattern inspired by his tribal shark-teeth tattoos. "We got all our new shirts in. We got purple, we got pink, we got lavender, we got black," he says before stepping back to reveal a pair of matching flip-flops . . . and the fact that he's totally pantsless.
On the bottom, Momoa is only wearing a traditional Hawaiian malo, which is pretty much a loincloth in front and a thong in back. He graciously offers fans a full rear look as he walks away from the camera and puts his buns of steel on display. "We look good!" he yells while shimmying into the distance.

Temuera Morrison has joined Jason Momoa in the Apple limited series “Chief of War,” Variety has learned.

Jason Momoa is all over the place these days. In addition to preparing for the release of the next "Aquaman" movie and playing the villain in the tenth installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, he's also set to star in the live-action "Minecraft" adaptation, an action-comedy called "Shots! Shots! Shots!," the fantasy murder mystery "The Executioner," a Hawaiian historical drama "Chief of War," and much more. Since the statuesque beefcake of an actor is someone that many consider the man of their dreams, I don't think too many people will be complaining.
In fact, the former "Game of Thrones" star has also taken a starring role in the World of Dreams. Based on the acclaimed comic strip "Little Nemo In Slumberland" by Winsor McCay, he will appear in the upcoming Netflix movie "Slumberland." This review of “Cane Fire” was first published May 20, 2022.
Several years in the making, the documentary “Cane Fire,” from longtime editor turned director Anthony Banua-Simon, sees the light of day as native Hawaiians on social media platforms are urging the public at large to stop traveling to the state at a time when resources of all kinds, from water to housing, have become alarmingly scarce or impossibly unaffordable for the working-class locals, particularly the indigenous Hawaiian population.
An indispensable watch, Banua-Simon’s first feature focuses on the island of Kauaʻi and the history of its exploitation as a colony, which endures under the guise of statehood. First desired for its fertile soil (for sugar cane and pineapple plantations that employed underpaid and overworked migrants from Asia), the island later became a sought-after Hollywood location and, eventually, a paradisiacal tourist playground for the rich.
